Carbonite bought out Evault (which was wonderful no complaints there) but when I upgraded my computer to windows 10 the tech came on my computer to upgrade the software because I had one that was real old. He said it wouldn't work with system 10. Now my bill went from $20 to $64 a month. Called to see what he did on the storage, to me it looked like he doubled the files or something. It's my fault for not reading the fine print. But I purchased a 3 year contract and have had problems restoring. Trying to do individual files was impossible because of limitations on size/number of files. I was unable to do a full restore because of my slow internet connection. so on top of the 1500.00 contract, I had to pay another 175.00 to get a restore drive. I have had Carbonite for 2 years. PRIOR to purchasing it I specifically asked if I would be able to back up my outlook files and have them restored. I was told yes. Fast forward to my first reinstall of data due to a computer issue....YES I have my outlook files but NO I can't open them or use them. Basically the same story as everyone else here. Incomplete backup. Incompetent "tech support". When they couldn't figure out the issue they fake an accidental disconnect and blamed it on me. Not once but twice. Of course they respond with the typical canned response about how much the care about the customer and how committed they are to resolving my issues, blah, blah, blah. I have been using Carbonite for years and I was happy with them because they would talk with me on the phone when I had an issue. However, recently (in July) my hard drive died. I had a backup from March on the time machine and knew for sure that Carbonite had my backup for that gap from March to July. How did I know? I HAVE BEEN USING PHANFARE FOR 10 YEARS, AND IT'S BEEN A GOOD, NOT GREAT, SHARING SITE. SINCE CARBONITE ACQUIRED PHANFARE, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT. I HAVE BEEN TELLING THEM OF THE ERROR MESSAGE THAT POPS EVERYTIME I TRY TO ADD PHOTOS - SYSTEM NEEDS TO REFRESH. I SEND THE EMAIL FORM, AND GET TOLD AN ANSWER WILL COME IN 24 HOURS. Carbonite only uses Internet Explorer, which is not working on my computer so I am paying for back-up even though it isn't doing it. The agents knew the cause of my problem, they knew how to fix my problem, but under company policy are not allowed to actually help the customer get the service they are paying for. This is a pathetic company policy that was obviously brought about by their keen legal team of advisors who chose risk and liability... Read more

After over 30 hours on the phone with them, the best they were able to do was restore about 60% of my files. I have lost more than $25,000 not to mention the time spent "trying" to restore files that they finally admitted they do not have. Others have had trouble with Carbonite and Mac computers. I got an email saying there had no back up on Carbonite for three weeks. After fruitless trying to reinstall, i called their Tech Support whose suggestion was that my computer is broken because he couldn't remote into my machine, he couldn't figure out why i could not reinstall their program. Along with quite a few other people on here, I cancelled my Carbonite subscription last year and deleted the program from my computer. Then, I received an email from them yesterday stating that I needed up update my computer for the program to work. Hmmmm... So, I went and checked my bank account.
