Original review updated Jan 30, 2024

I have been disappointed in the california eye specialists ever since I was referred to them to get authorization for cataract surgery.

On july 5, 2023 I went to my regular eye doctor for an eye exam to get new glasses.

The doctor said a prescription wouldn't help and wrote the referral for the opthomologist to have cataract surgery.

Since I had previously used the California eye center years ago when I had a torn retina, I asked for the referral to be there.

I saw the opthomologist in monrovia, Dr. Rex Villegas on september 15th.

Even though I could tell I couldn't see well when he did the eye test, he wrote me a prescription for glasses. I gave him the benefit of doubt.

I then had to wait until november 2nd for the glasses to come in.

I tried my hardest to wear them, but they weren't made correctly.

I scheduled a follow up eye exam in the pasadena office on december 9th. They unfortunately gave me the same doctor. He did another exam and really cranked up the prescription.

I told him my quality of life was lacking because I can't drive at night.

He said it was the cataracts but that this new prescription is really going to help me.

How? Is it going to give me xray vision to see through the cataracts?

I waited until january 19th to pick up the remake. I constantly called checking to see if they came in. I left messages that were never returned and if I didn't call, i would have never known they were in.

When I picked up the redo in pasadena, they lost the case of my $210 pair of guess glasses.

I was very upset. I asked if they could leave a message for the girl who took them, jennifer. They said no.

I tried getting a hold of jennifer, but I only ever got the machine and had to leave messages. No one ever called me back.

After trying to wear this incredibly strong and dizzying prescription for a short time, I couldn't deal with it anymore and went back to the office I ordered them through, monrovia.

I told them they wouldn't work and I wanted to return them and get my insurance benefits reinstated, which is done when you return glasses that don't work out.

They told me it was a special order and they couldn't refund me or put the glasses back on the rack.

What?

I ordered them there and they tried making them, unsuccessfully. It didn't work out so they can take out the lenses and resell them.

Walmart will do that, so what's wrong with this place?

I am totally disgusted by the california eye center and I don't recommend anyone to use them.

They're the most unprofessional and inconsiderate office I've ever had the displeasure of using.

I now have a useless pair of glasses that I can't wear because they make me sick, and they don't allow me to see through my cataracts like the doctor thought.

I have to start all over with a referral to see a legitimate opthomologist to schedule cataract surgery and to get my insurance benefits reinstated.

Loss:
$218
Cons:
  • Staff doesnt care
  • Inefficient
  • Unprofessional

Preferred solution: Refund my out of pocket money and work with the insurance on the return of the glasses to restore my benefits.

User's recommendation: don't use this place
