Poor assistance and business practices

AI Highlights
  • - Missed renewal notice due to illness; sent $450 renewal check.
  • - License expired; renewal now $675: $450 renewal, $225 penalty, $20 fee.

I have been a licensed contractor for many years now and never have I not paid my license fees on time. However, this year i didnt receive a renewal form in the mail, email or even a phone call and I should mention that I have been very sick with COVID-19 so I quite honeslty wasnt looking for a renewal and as usual have always figured that It will arrive when it's time.

Anyway, I finally realized a couple before weeks that the time was getting close and I had not received anything so I sent a letter explaining that I hadn't received anything and that I have been sick along with a renewal check of $450.00

It's been a couple of weeks and I have just received a letter now telling me that my license has expired and that it will now cost me an additional $225.00 for a total of $675.00 to renew said license and yes that's a 50% penalty for something that is their fault but what could I do and on top of this all there was an additional charge of over $20 for the CC transaction.

Quite frankly, this is criminal by a state run entity and I couldn't even get in touch with a representative over the phone to eplain my plight.

Loss:
$225
Pros:
  • Very few
Cons:
  • Have done nothing for me but over charge

Preferred solution: Price reduction

User's recommendation: I have no idea what t say about this to anyone else as I'm sure that I'm not alone and in a time where work has been almost stopped because of COVID-19

Leave you having Covid out of it. Useless info.

I also have a state license and am well aware to renew online early. Don’t use Covid and the mail as an excuse.

California Contractors State License Board - I wanted information about a state...

I have some work going on at my house. Safe Step is installing a shower that has taken 24 weeks and theyve spent seven days here.

This job was supposed to be done report 10 weeks and it was supposed to take a couple of days.

The job has been done that is unacceptable to me. I wanted to find out what I should do?

Unfair business practices

AI Highlights
  • - COVID-19 stopped renewal notices.
  • - I sent $450 for renewal, then learned $225 more was needed.
  • - Total about $675 plus a $20 fee, with no option to call to appeal.

I am and have been a licensed contractor for many years now and have never missed renewing my license. However, this year because of COVID-19 I didn't get a renewal form mailed to me or even an email or call (they have all on file)

o a couple of weeks before the renewal I mailed a letter to the CSLB with a renewal payment of $450.00 only to be told in a letter that they now send that my license is now out of date and that It will be a further $225.00 to renew it, yes that's 50% more for a total of $675.00 plus over $20.00 fr the CC payment.

So I now have had to pay almost $700.00 to allow me to work which I haven't done is a while because of being sick with COVID-!9 and there was no way to call and appeal this criminal act by a state run enterprise.

User's recommendation: I have no idea what advise to give to others running up against the CSLB

  • - Threatened to come to my state if I didn't buy.
  • - He refused to hang up and kept calling.
  • - Do not buy to starve them out.

Threatened to come to my state and take care of me if i didn't buy from him....I say come on down big boy.

WHAT A ***!! He had nothing i wanted, he refused to hang up and kept calling back when i did. this company has been doing this for years and are progressively getting worse. Most people buy just to get them off the line, i refuse to be intimidated by this and actually would love to meet this *** face to face, we kind of have way of dealing with his type down on the bayou. Starve them out, don't buy from them
