I sent them a textbook in very good condition a few weeks ago, and was rejected and given 0 dollars do to "poor quality." There is absolutely no way this can be, as the book was in good quality, at worst. I am really dissapointed with the customer service for not getting back to me regarding this issue.

I have used many other book buyback services such as Sell back your book, monster, powells, ect.

and this one has proved to be by far the worst. You could go as far as saying this service is a total scam.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I can certainly understand your frustration not receiving the payment you were expecting.

When you placed the buyback order, you were given a quote based on the ISBN that was entered. This is not a guarantee you will receive this amount as all books are carefully inspected by our processing team upon arrival. Upon receiving your book titled "Organic Chemistry", our Buyback team found that it contained cover/binding damage which prevents normal use of the book. Since we are unable to resell books that can not be used, the damaged book was rejected from your order.

Your Bookbyte account was updated to reflect this rejected status as of 3/25/2020, which is when your item was inspected.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team directly. Thank you, Bookbyte

If you "sell" your books, they will accept the order with the promise of payment but then will tell you that it was "damaged" so your buyback will be rejected and you won't actually receive the payment for it.

Bookbyte is a thief! Please please stay away from them! I wish I could give them zero stars. They will offer the highest resale amount to lure people into selling back their books! Then they steal it from them. I sold them a brand new textbook worth over $150 I purchased from my college and they sent me an email saying my book is fake. They are all thieves! You are better off sending your book to textbookrush or chegg. I have had no problems sending to them. Run away from these theives! Oh and when I asked them to provide proof of their evaluation, they did not provide any proof. I sold to a different company recently and they found water damage on one page of my book. They were kind enough to send me a picture showing the page, and they offered to ship my book back to me, or offer a lesser price. Bookbyte does not do this because they are all thieves! Please save yourself the trouble. Find another company to sell to.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I do understand your frustration not receiving payment for your order so I hope to bring further clarification today.

Upon receiving books, our Buyback team first checks the ISBN on the book to ensure that it's the same as the ISBN on the order. Then they check the condition of the book. When checking the condition of the book, they also check for book authenticity. Our buyback team inspected your book titled "Principles of Marketing, by Kotler, 17th Student Value Edition" and found it to be an inauthentic copy.

They are investigating how this item was illegally produced, however we are unable to return the book since it is an inauthentic copy and should not be in circulation. Unfortunately, purchasing a book from a bookstore does not guarantee that the book will be an authentic copy as bookstores receive inventory from various third party sources. We cannot provide the exact details of what was specifically flagged about your book as that could aid in the production of these illegally produced textbooks and bypass our authenticity checks. I would recommend that you contact the location you ordered this item from and advise them of the issue as they will need to reimburse you for the book.

If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service team directly. Thank you, Bookbyte

SCAM 1,000s OF PEOPLE AND CONTINUE TO DO SO

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They said my book was a β€œcounterfeit” and did not provide any evidence to support it. I asked for evidence and they couldn’t produce any.

They just gave me a generic response but nothing specific about my book of course. Obviously they can say whatever they want without having to prove it to people, making it obvious that they are lying. They refuse to pay me for my book or even ship it back. Their dishonest business practice is to lure people in with high buyback quotes and then not payout the majority of people that take their offer.

They don’t even have a phone number to call so you are stuck emailing them. The only thing you can do is expose them for what they truly are. No other book company keeps your book and doesn’t pay you or return it to you. I have never experienced this with any other book buyback company I have used.

Steer clear of this company if you value your money and time. It’s only a matter of time before they are shut down.

At this point there’s enough people to file a class action lawsuit. Thousands of people have been scammed.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Bookbyte has been in business for over 20 years and we strive to offer the highest buyback prices for students selling books.

Because of the rising costs of textbooks, there are currently many scams/companies that print and sell illegal copies of textbooks. Some indicators that books are inauthentic are: - Poor binding - Different/lower page quality - Printing quality - Printing dimensions - Front and back cover art distorted/mis-aligned If we find these indicators, we then compare it to an authentic copy of the book and if it doesn't match then that is when it's flagged as an inauthentic copy. We cannot provide the exact details of what was specifically flagged about your book as that could aid in the production of these illegally produced textbooks and bypass our authenticity checks. We are also unable to return the book since it is an inauthentic copy and should not be in circulation.

I would recommend that you contact the company you ordered this item from and advise them of the issue as they will need to reimburse you for the book.

I've been selling used books for over 10 years now. I do have a good idea when a book is in good or poor condition. I sent two books valued at approximately $40 apiece, and they rejected both. They effectively stole $80 from me, since I know these books were of excellent quality.

DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS TO BOOKBYTE--DON'T BE A SUCKER

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I tried selling my textbooks to BookByte for the first time. This is what I wrote in my complaint to the FTC: BookByte is a website that both sells and buys textbooks. I used their site to verify the value of 5 textbooks I wanted to sell. My total of quoted prices was supposed to be $107.25. I mailed my books within their delivery window and the condition of the books were good. I got a PayPal payment of $70 from Bookbyte. They no longer provide customer service over the phone, so I had to e-mail them asking why I did not get my full value, The person I was speaking to over e-mail is Rachel S., their Customer Service Lead. She said one of my textbooks, "Multinational Business Finance" is a *teacher's edition* and they cannot buy back this book. Disappointed, I asked for them to send that book back. She said it's their policy not to do that. I had no indication that my textbooks is a teacher's edition, nor can they prove it to me other than their word and that "they inspected it twice". I can sell that textbook to a few other providers, and they are taking it for free. We've exchanged several e-mails and I told them they're blatantly ripping me off and that I would file a complaint with the FTC. After several e-mails where Rachel implies it's my fault for not reading their policies thoroughly enough, her recent e-mail notified me she had a *supervisor* look over my case and they would give me a 50% value of the book as a *courtesy*. I don't know about their business as a seller of textbooks, but as a buyer, it's a slippery slope of dishonesty. Going back to my e-mail confirmation, they word my buyback as "quoted prices" which Rachel referred to as not the exact value they had to pay, which is subject to change. And the fact that they're keeping my property without giving me cash they told me I would be given once the books arrive is THEFT. I still have the original e-mail invoice of this textbook to prove my ownership. And not only did attempt to get away with keeping my book because of their company policy (which any company can establish and edit whenever they please) and not at all make an exception to give my book back (not even suggesting I pay them a delivery charge), but attempted to give me only HALF of what they promised to give me AS A COURTESY. They would argue those prices are subject to change and that I would be okay with that risk if I decide to do business with them--my takeaway. That's not a service, that's a bait-and-switch. They either need to start operating honestly or not at all. If I bought a book from them and I decided their copy (which I've never seen before until I get it) does not meet my standard, would it be fair for me to pay you the value I THINK it's worth by asking my credit company to cancel the charge and pay a fraction? No, that's not fair, right? Well, that's the kind of business Bookbyte is pulling. Did Bookbyte not pay you the value of your books and just kept it without even the option of returning it to you? File a complaint using the Complaint Assistant on the Federal Trade Commission web site. If there are enough complaints, justice will be served. Bookbyte--I hope the $42 was worth it.

It's the Federal Trade Commission. You should also submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau.

Their replies on every single bad review I've seen are copy-and-paste "too bad, you can't prove it, we have your books now" BS. Sell your books elsewhere!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I certainly understand your frustration not receiving the kind of payment you were expecting and apologize for any confusion or inconvenience.

When you placed the buyback order, you were given a quote based on the ISBNs that were entered. This is not a guarantee you will receive this amount as all books are carefully inspected upon arrival. Our records indicate the ISBN you entered was for the Student Edition of "Multinational Business Finance (14th Edition) (Pearson Series in Finance)"; which is what your $42.00 quote reflected. Unfortunately as you mentioned in your review, the item we received was an Instructor Edition with a different ISBN.

We no longer purchase Instructor Editions, therefore the book was rejected. After reaching out to our Customer Service team, I am showing that payment for the full quoted amount was made for your order. If you haven't already, you may need to log in to your PayPal account to accept the funds.

If you have not received your payment or have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly at wecare@bookbyte.com so that we can ensure you receive your full payment for the order. Thank you, Bookbyte

I have been debating on selling certain books of mine and I finally decided to sell my book for some extra cash when I sent the item it seemed to be fine When I got a notice back that they wouldn’t accept it, they are saying I had mold on my book from water damage!!!! They will not return my book or give me any kind of money! When I put that sucker in the mail it was fine and now it’s not? I would not recommend selling books to them as they do not care about you as a seller. I could take that book somewhere else and sell it!!! And obviously I just spent a bunch of time and money to get the book and actually use it. Send me my book back or give me my money!! I’ve even offered to pay for the damn shipping to get my book back. Also I want to see pictures of this mold.

AVOID - complete scam!

I sent a textbook in valued at $80, in good overall condition. I even spoke to someone via their chat function to make them aware that it had been used, and they advised the condition I described was fine. As soon as they had it I received a bizarre e-mail saying Bookbyte retained the right to shut down my account for any reason they wished, and that's what they had chosen to do. I contacted them, and they advised the book wasn't suitable for resale and they'd destroyed it. Eventually through formally complaining they gave me $20 as a gesture. I'm under no illusion that this book will now be sold on for $80+, and feel very silly for trusting them in the first place.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I certainly understand your frustration not receiving the full payment you were expecting.

When you placed your buyback order, you were given a quote based on the ISBN that was entered. This is not a guarantee you will receive this amount as all books are carefully inspected upon arrival. Our records indicate the ISBN you entered was for the hardcover textbook titled "Management", by ROBBINS. As you mentioned in your e-mail to us, the book that you sent was a loose-leaf textbook with a cover added by a third-party.

Since we would not resell a loose-leaf textbook with a custom cover added to appear like the original/hardcover, that book was rejected from your order. I do show that you did reach out to our Customer Service team after your book was rejected and payment was made for the amount of the loose-leaf ISBN we received, despite the book no longer being resalable with the custom/improper cover.

If you have not yet received this payment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us again. Thank you, Bookbyte

I accepted a sale price of $17 for a textbook that sells used online from $169 to more than $200. The book was in excellent condition and I wrapped it in plastic wrap and padded the box to ensure it would stay so. I never heard back from the company and when I went online it said that the book was rejected as damaged. Lucky them. They misrepresent and get to keep my book and my money.

I completed a buyback for $109.25 for a textbook I had. I promptly mailed it and after about a week of them having it and still no payment I checked their website. It stated my book was accepted , rejected , damaged , and then when I emailed them they said it was an instructor edition they couldn't accept and they (unbeknownst to me) "donated" my $109 book!?‘¿. They made no effort to contact me , allow me the opportunity to reclaim my property, give me a straight answer , or any due process in depriving me of my property. They offered me 25% of my books value for the misunderstanding, but I still want the bargained for agreement . All I got was swindled out of my goods under false pretenses.

Should’ve went with Chegg. Absolutely unbelievable, waited two months & haven’t gotten any refund, so I contacted them via e-mail since β€œcustomer service matters aren’t handled over the phone” (what a surprise when your entire β€œcompany” is a scam). Told me that my book was sent in with water damage, when the book was in perfect condition. I’m seeing many customers have had the same issue. Asked for a refund, no. Asked for my book back, β€œno it was recycled”. A perfectly good book with a quote of $80 recycled? I hope you all feel great scamming customers and college kids out of money that we already don’t have. Never again, & I’ll be filing with BBB.

Scammers! Don't sell to them.

They paid me the quote books for one of the books that I mailed them but claimed that there was cover damage to the other book.. however the book didn't have a cover because it's loose leaf. Then once I brought that up they said that the cover wasn't damaged it was because I didn't include the cover page...

it amazes me how quickly they can change their story. There was no damage to the book whatsoever, every single page was included with the book.

After going back and forth through email they finally offered half of the quote price, $45 instead of the $90.
