Fees
I would just like to know what the "enhancement fee is"..my membership was over in march and has been on month to month since then. I went to BX last week to cancel my membership.
The girl told me there would be one more payment which is on the 19th. I accepted that with no argument. However, when I went to my bank I was over drawn $55 because an "enhancement fee" was processed from BX. The same day I cancelled.
I just want to know what it is.
I was no longer on a contract and month to month for several months. I called them the next day and was told a manager or supervisor would be contacting me, it has been 5 days and I have to hear from them.

Watch out for Body XChange!!!
This gym advertised for months on tv about a no-contract gym for only $9.99/mo. When signing up in Simi Valley they told me they would have classes such as Zumba, kickboxing. This gym did not open when it was originally told it would. Once opened, they did not send new members information that the gym had opened. I found out when they started taking monthly fees from my credit card account. When I called to ask about the class schedule, I was then told that there wouldn't be any classes at this location!!! Why did I sign - up then?
When calling the corporate office - Bakersfield - for a refund I was told that the gym opened late, but I should have known that it was open. (Do I have a crystal ball?). I was also told that Fernando, the man who signed me up and lied to me about classes, was only a temp. and they don't know why I was told they would have classes.
I asked to close my membership and for a full refund, since I had not participated, was lied to about their products they have and was never told the gym had openned. I was denied! I am taking this to the BBB for resolution.
If anyone else has experienced this type of treatment and lack of customer service I suggest that you also file a complaint with the Fresno BBB.
Body XChange (Bakersfield, CA) Has Unfair Contracts & Collections Policies
My wife signed up for a 3 year membership with the understanding that it would not be a problem to cancel the contract if she stopped commuting to Bakersfield or we had a baby. After using the gyms for 1 year both happened and she is now a stay-at-home mother. In March I communicated with Body XChange about settling the account. They wanted me to pay $400 to bring it current and cancel it. We had just had a baby and did not have the money at that time. Soon a credit agency was billing us for this amount. I paid it. Now, the credit agency is billing us for almost $2,000 for the remainder of the contract plus interest. Body XChange claims we missed the window to deal with them and now must deal with the collection agency and pay the full amount. I am disgusted at the way this company has refused to be reasonable when they claimed to be so flexible when she signed the contract.
They expect us to pay them $2,000 for absolutely nothing. We cannot afford it and feel screwed over by their aggressive, take-no-prisoners policies. They have converted happy customers into angry detractors.

if you dont mind me asking, what did you settle on? and did you still have to pay two thousand dollars?
I have had a membership with ABC Body Exchange for several years. In 2011 I wanted to drop my membership, but they convinced me to stay on for $5.00 per month.
In Jan 2012 I decided to finally drop out because I had not used the service once during 2012. I terminated on Jan 10 and when I got my Jan Credit Card bill it showed that they charged me 29.00 in Jan 2012. I went to the gym on Stockdale Hwy and Allen Road to complain and I was told the $29.00 was an "enhancement fee" (whatever that is) that was charged to everyone and that I could not get a refund because I was billed on Jan 6 and I did not cancel until Jan10.
I expected to pay another $5.00, but not $29.00. The attendant basically blew me off.
They are right. You are wrong. Read your contract. The January charge is on there clearly.
Also, it's not their fault you decided to stop paying because you weren't going. Good try.
I've had nothing but pleasurable encounters with everyone at BX.
Since filing this report I have reached a compromise with Body XChange, (which is a great relief to say the least). When all is said and done we made mistakes which brought about the situation but I still feel that things could have been handled better on their end.
This has nothing to do with the quality of the service they offer and I wish the company continued success, but I also hope that external pressure might cause them to amend their ways for the better when it comes to collecting on delinquent accounts.
Customers who miss a payment or come across hard times are still potential future customers and will still tell others about their experiences with your company...and therefore it is important to maintain a good working relationship with ALL customers, even those with defaulted payments.
