Warning and Advice for Those Seeking Eye Treatment

I went to Bluegrass Retina Consultants (BRC), off Blazer Road in Lexington, Kentucky, and saw Dr. Brendan Girschek.

On my third visit, out of the blue, Dr. Girschek recommended that I get an eye biopsy to rule out a potentially fatal disease. He had not discussed this possibility with me earlier and I was shocked. Opting to get a second opinion, I obtained my medical records from BRC and found information in them unknown to me and various misrepresentations.

Girschek had not talked to me about "chorioretinitis" and its relationship to any eye condition that I might have. Having now done research on this term I find this to be a critical omission.

He also noted in the medical record that I should see my primary care physician to deal with cardiovasular risks in the prevention of ocular complications when he had said no such thing to me. In my opinion, the records were written with a future doctor in mind and represented a classic case of "CYA." If you value a doctor who will understands ethics, will fully explain your medical condition, is a good communicator, and takes into account the human feelings of his patient, please seek out someone else.
