I just got switched to BCBS by my work. It's been an awful switch.
I can't get a primary care. The people at the customer service are so rude.
It took many times just to get started. Nothing ever got fixed because they're a mess.

Life long Blue Cross member but New Mexico was nothing short of wreckless, careless, unprofessional, and abusive.
In 2023 my clinic submitted paperwork for approval and after 2 weeks I called to find out only half the paperwork was approved so it just sat. When I call the clinic they escalated it and within an hour the rest was approved so the hardware could be delivered.
This year the identical paperwork was submitted by a different clinic and after 2 weeks I called because I had ZERO confidence after last year.
After Bing on hold 15 minutes as the agent tried to track down the status I was hung upon. I guess they could ot effectively do their job. So I called back only to get hung up on with no reply.
That's when management got involved to figure what was going on.
At this point I have over 13 grand from surgery due at the hospital I cab only imagine how I'm going to be abused over this one.
Unfortunately care like this is rampant through the New Mexico medical systems. How I was verbally attacked and mistreated at the hospitals and the abusive care is third world
Do yourself a favor and just steer clear of the entire state it is an embarrassment on this country and it the people living there that make it that way.

Death Sentence
BCBS sent me a denial of claims for oncological treatment at MD Anderson for a life threatening cancer because of 'not medically necessary', 'contract provisions', and finally 'experimental or investigational' treatment, a death sentence.

My doctor and I had been diagnosing a medical issue and through lab testing discovered the root cause. For prescription coverage for this medication via insurance, you must have sufficient levels of an enzyme detected twice (on separate days).
After the testing was completed, all information was sent to the insurance. They have pretended to have not recieved the results. When contacted the customer rep can see that the results are there but hasn't, and apparently can't send the results to the proper party to be viewed and approved. This is going on for over a month and I have been hung up on twice, mislead as to where my Doctor needs to send the results for authorization and BCBS has not been in touch to render any assistance.
I would not recommend this insurer to ANYONE!!! They are utterly useless, inept, rude and unhelpful. Bottom barrel. If you ever have to deal with them in a similar regard, get the US dept of Labor involved, specifically the EBSA dept.
The insurance obviously does not like being contacted by them and have finally started rendering some help, minimally. I'd rate bcbsnm a zero/10.

Useless health insurance company
I have blue cross blue shield HMO. I have my regular PCP, and I am over weight and my body mas is 36 which this is considered obesity.
Now, I don't have diabetes. But I am having trouble losing weight. This is no good company denied my of all weight loss medication? Why, I know I need it for my health.
All I hear is BS and a bunch of lies and runaround. No straight answers! I hate this company.
Terrible health insurance company! HOW IS THE DAMNED DOCTOR THIS BCBS COMPANY OR MY REAL PCP!

Horrible. Awful. Terrible. I HATE BCBS NM.
They can't get their systems to communicate well with BeWellNM. Their agents can't answer questions or get me to anyone who can help.
I've spent 6+ hours over 3 days on a brand new policy in two weeks. This effort just to get BONKERS paperwork in the mail that retroactively cancelled my policy from LAST YEAR and I'm now getting freaking BILLS asking for the money back that BCBS was supposed to pay to my providers. This. Insurance.
Company. SUCKS. I only wish I could express my vitriolic RAGE to someone there who could do something about it. I.

Alarmingly poor customer service agents
After years and years of receiving bad customer service from anything from phone companies to health insurance, I must say that BCBSNM has the worst "customer service" that I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Don't bother trying to get someone else to help once you realize the agent on the line is unable to understand because of the poor training they receive. There are no supervisors available, presumably because they are dealing with SO many other people unhappy with their service.
User's recommendation: I never thought I would recommend Presbyterian but they could no way be worse than this BCBSNM.
The worse of transportation and telephone support. Three times in the past two weeks I was not picked up until I made a complaint.
Last night I was left in a closed clinic as I waited over one hour attempting to call Customer Service, 24/7 Nurseline, Ride Assist, and Reserve Transport. BlueCross BlueShield of New Mexico should tell its clients that after 5pm there is absolutely no service to anyone.
The most terrible health care and terrible customer service and transportation. After more than one hour I received a ride. The clinic closed at 5pm and I only got a ride after 6:30pm.
The best transportation is " ZHON Home Care Corporation". But unfortunately, BCBS of NM does not want to spend money on a proper transportation service for us.
Medicaid should investigate BCBS of NM for fraudulent transportation services.

the company takes your money then cancel your insurance early then they say so i think they need to repay me or the business need shut down cause the people that work there dont care about people making them a check but i think if your going pay 795 a month why stop the man pay his insurance and cancel it for him this company cancel my policy it self what a *** company i hope one day they have to repay all there clients back all the money they payed hope we will recieve a check to pay for more insurance

No Billing, Not Able to Make a Payment Online, Ludicrous hold times, no answers
I enrolled, got my cards, but never got billed. I finally called them (on hold 32 minutes, and when I got through, they couldn't help, claimed my address wasn't appearing in the system correctly.
Since I got my cards, I find this hard to believe.) While on hold, I got disgusted and created an online account (this was not hard) and was able to verify my coverage and look at my bill. However, when I tried to make my payment online (tried three times), a generic window popped up saying the payment was not submitted. That's it, nothing else, except to call the SAME 866 number for help. So, I call the good old number again, stay on hold for another 22 minutes, and am told that since it's related to the internet, I need to call a different number.
So, I call the different 866 number, stay on hold for 12 minutes and, when I'm giving them my info to verify who I am, they hang up on me. I'm back on hold again while writing this.
Needless to say, this experience as been extremely disappointing. Furthermore, before I signed up, because I need a multi-state policy, I called BCBS to get a list of providers in the SF Bay Area who would accept NM BCBS, and they couldn't tell me how to find one. The guy I spoke to was supremely unhelpful.
Unfortunately, there aren't that many choices available to NM residents. I may have to change my residence to California just to get someone intelligent on the phone.
