DISSATISFIED PURCHASER

Purchased a new hot tub at the Puyallup Fair. Told us 8 weeks for deliver.

It was more like 14 weeks. When delivered, the Samoans were friendly removed and dropped off the new tub where we wanted. However, no instructions were given afterward. Certain plugs needed to be installed.

Found this out when attempting to fill. Had to wait another week for the plug. Hot tub cover is much too large for the tub (six inches too large on two sides). Complained said one would be ordered.

Still waiting. When the plugs arrived and put in place; I filled the tub. Started the pumps, two of the three worked. Called for instructions - was laughed at by their service department.

Finally put in touch with someone that would help. Was told to unscrew the pipe. They didn't tell me how far, air and then water came out. Tried to reconnect the pipe and was successful EXCEPT now the gasket pulled out on the inside of the pipe and the tube needed to be drained.

The screws for the side are inferior in quality no tinsel strength and were stripped. Still waiting on those too. $8,500 for a nightmare. Avoid these people at all costs!!!!

You go through their "warranty" they don't warranty anything. AVOID!!!!

Still waiting for another cover. Been five months and counting..............

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I would give this place zero stars, if I could.

Their service and product is terrible! It took several weeks to schedule our delivery and then (surprise!) they were late AND brought the wrong hot tub! Once we finally managed to wade through enough of their *** to get a working hot tub, the hot tub STARTED RUSTING. They tried to blame it on chemicals but WE WERE USING THE CHEMICALS AND DISPENSER THEY SOLD US and my husband was testing the limits religiously.

After they admitted that wasn't the issue and that this was a known problem on this hot tub model, we switched to cheaper but chemically IDENTICAL chlorine tablets. They were supposed to send someone out to replace the rusty part on 7/5 who no showed on us. Then, they come out 6 hours late for our rescheduled appointment the following week for the rescheduled appointment and try to blame it on chemicals "and venting" again. We are using chemically identical chlorine.

We read the labels. And we are using the cover they sold us. They sold us a bad product and want to make that our fault. It's pure lies.

This is not our first hot tub. We've never had ANYTHING rust on any other hot tub. You know why? Because hot tubs are supposed to be designed to get wet.

That's why. Buy your hot tub ANYWHERE ELSE.

I've just been threatened by a salesman

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Nov 14, 2016

Update - I was contacted by the new owners of Black Pine Spas and we talked about what had happened. the comment was made by the previous owner who was in the store "helping out" that day with a sales event.

That's a really rotten thing to do to a new owner.

I'm happy that the new owners would never treat anyone this way and I still like the products. I'll be stopping in when life loosens it's grip a little and I can indulge in something just for my own relaxation.

Original review Oct 15, 2016

This was the phrase verbatim from the sales rep at Black Pine Spas. I've never been threatened by a salesman before, I don't like it and I definitely don't think it's acceptable.

Black Pine Spas has new owners. I found this out when I went down to their store to see if there was something else I could do with my $1000.00 non-refundable deposit I'd put down on a hot tub.

Now there is nothing wrong with the tub, I still have it in mind to purchase one, (not here) but life has interfered with my plans and a hot tub is not part of my immediate future anymore.

I went down to the store, no one was there that I recognized. It turns out that they've sold the business and I never had any idea that my contract had changed hands. I wonder...if I hadn't gone down there...would I have ever been contacted?

I looked around a bit, was greeted and told one rep that I needed to talk about my deposit. They told me they'd get someone to me in a few minutes and they did. I asked about getting my deposit back and was told that wasn't an option. Fair enough, it's stated right on the contract. The rep even offered to change the deposit to another product on site or extend the contract. These are both reasonable options and worth considering.

Until...

"You're lucky we don't come after you for the full amount." from the salesman's mouth. I will never forget that sentence for as long as I live.

I've just been threatened by a salesman.

Threats like this just make me very, very determined to share the story and make sure folks are aware of the kind of salespeople they are dealing with. There's one sure way to drive off a customer.

I agree. The salesperson sounds like a major *** and not anyone I would want to do business with. Wonder if the new owners are aware of this behavior?!

Warranty repair.

We bought a top of the line hot tub and cover (smart top) from these guys at last years State Fair. They delivered it and set it up in October/November, including putting the cover on.

About a month ago I noticed that the top of the line cover was warping and pulling apart at the seams. I called them as it was still under warranty. They brought a new one over alright...and promptly charged me $150 just to show up and an additional $110 in labor...total bill for installing the new cover...$344.93....When I originally talked with them they indicated that the cover company told them it sounded like the first one was installed incorrectly, until I told her that they were the ones that installed it.

Then she stated that it looked to her like it WAS installed correctly (I had sent them pictures). I won't be doing business with them again...never again...

I feel your pain! That's how they do business!!

Post script: I ended up emailing a complaint to Black Pine Spas because the more I thought about it the more annoyed I got. I didn't think it would do any good even though I believed what they did was bad customer service and speaking with them the first time...charging me $344 to replace a cover for my spa that was covered under warranty.

To my surprise a rep from Black Pine Spas called me and agreed that they should have not charged me the $150 show up fee. They refunded me that plus tax.

Although I'm still not happy that I had to shell out labor, they came through and showed good customer service by refunding me their "show up" fee. It's unfortunate that one has to "complain" but I give them kudos.

Black Pine Spas - Ripoff and Rude!

Not only these people are total rip-off, but they are also rude. First they show up to fix a burst pipe, do nothing, charge $100 for "visit fee", and leave some paper with $850 worth of other things to do before they would deign to replace a $5 PVC pipe.

Then their customer service person is unbelievably rude to us on the phone. I mean "Seinfeld" rude, the "Soup Nazi" episode. If I didn't know it's for real I would think it's not for real but some gotcha TV crue set us up.

I am canceling their check, fighting their fees in court, and, needless to say, will never use their services again.

I find this complaint hard to believe based on my experiences with them. I've dealt with the sales staff, the delivery crew, the service folks - they've all been very professional and polite and have put up with many pestering questions with me!

Guest

We are familiar with this customer's case. The facts are as follows:

This customer's spa was set up and installed in a completely unacceptable and dangerous installation with wet electrical boxes, lack of GFCI, etc.

It would be a liability for us to work on this product. As a result, we are NOT ALLOWED BY LAW to do the repair on the pipe, and left the customer with the information on what would be needed to bring the installation to code. This was not some absurd way of trying to rip anyone off. The customer then claimed that we had already been to their home before and knew of this, however, their information came through via Service Magic which is a third party.

We had never been there. We did bill for a travel charge and the time that was spent on site. This is very normal. Any service industry (plumbers, etc) will have a travel charge to come to the house.

This review is slanderous and completely untrue. We can be reached at 425.771.5774 to comment further.

In reading the original complaint, I smelled something fishy. No business can operate that way and expect to remain in business. As the old saying goes..."the customer is NOT always right, and is often looking to get something for nothing." ...or something like that.

BLACK PINE SPAS RIPPED US OFF LEFT HOT TUB BROKEN!

Black Pine Spas of Lynnwood WA was the recommended dealer we bought our hot tub from at the Puyallup Fair. We have an excalibur HOttub which is top of the line silver pearl finish huge tub costs $7000+ was a very nice tub.

My complaint is the service and maintenance after we bought the tub. We spent $900 replacing a new pump which was spendy but fine. But then we spent another $900 replacing all of the jets which lasted about 5 years with the original Manufacturer jets. Black Pine Spas replaced and installed new Clear jets.

Well within 6 months all the Jets shattered and broke into pieces and fell to the bottom of the tub! I called Black Pine Spas they said well you used the wrong cleaner, WRONG!! I had been using the same cleaner with the old jets for 2 years and they never broke! They said they would only give me 10% off new jets!!!

Well I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they still have not rectified the situation and my hottub is unusable and leaking due to the jet breakage will no longer hold water. So thanks for nothing Black Pine Spas, that $900 was for nothing and inferior plastic jets they tried to pass off just because they got a new supplier amd were trying to save money!!

NEVER GO WITH BLACK PINE SPAS. HOTTUB ISS STILL BROKEN!!!!

Their jets are worthless and when anything fails it is because you didn't maintain the water correctly!

Thanks so much! I wont buy my next hot tub from them.

I am a Corporate Security and Fraud Prevention professional; I do my homework before I buy a major purchase from any source. I have thoroughly checked out Black Pine Spas and happily purchased a spa from them.

I trusted them enough I took advantage of the cost savings of a demo model. Even if you don’t have access to the tools I do to investigate a company, look at their track record. You don’t last 31 plus years in business if you’re not taking care of your customers. Period.

I have a problem with the complaint because I didn’t buy a top of the line spa but it still came with a lifetime structural warranty, 5 years surface, and 3 years for electrical and plumbing. You wouldn’t have spent $900 on a pump that soon and if you don’t use the recommended chemicals you void the warranty. I have trouble believing this isn’t a competitor. I have dealt with the sales side, the delivery side, and the service side.

I built a custom deck entry and called and they would go and measure things for me so I didn’t have to drive to Lynwood.

Everyone I’ve dealt with has been professional, knowledgeable and as polite as can be. I wouldn’t expect less from a company that’s been around for more than 30 years.

This isn't the same company that's been in business for 30 years. The company has been sold and these are new owners. Your homework didn't mention that?

I am very familiar with hot tub water chemistry. The only thing that harms plastics in water is water inbalance.

Chems an we as dirty people in hot water require lots of work to keep clean.

I believe this customer neglected the tub an the jets are the thinnest plastics in hot tubs. They are the first thing to break down due to impropper water balance!!!

Guest

I've been getting my hot tub serviced by these people for 10 years and have had nothing but positive experience. They are on my cell phone address book because I have them come out twice a year to do their spring and fall cleaning specials.

Their service techs are always polite and professional.

I wouldnt go out of my way to write this if I didn't use them so often and for so long. I think this is some disgruntled customer looking for a finger to point for their own mistake.

Guest

:(

these people are total rip-off, and on top of that, they have the rudest customer service this side of ocean!

This complaint was brought to our attention by one of our customers. We are aware of this case and did work with the customer and the BBB to communicate the facts. The BBB has since ruled in Black Pine's favor, and we will publish the facts here for everyone else's review. Should anyone, including this consumer, wish to discuss the matter, we would welcome the opportunity to clear up the matter further.

1) Black Pine never had a "new supplier" for jets, nor did we try to "pass off" inferior jets. The jets the customer is referring to are manufactured by Waterway, and are the exact same OEM jets that spa manufacturer, Dynasty Spas, purchases and uses in their spas. In short, they are the exact same jets from the exact same source.

2) When the spa is delivered, it came with a start up chem kit with the recommended maintenance chemicals. The chem kit also has a DVD, and a small written water care guide. Lastly, the spa manufacturer's operating manual has recommendations for proper water care. Not one of these recommends the water care system that this customer admits to using. In fact, in the industry, it is commonly known that this particular product is fantastic for the water, but is highly corrosive to multiple components, especially jets. This chemical causes this problem with any spa out there, since most of the parts are non-proprietary. It is not an issue that is specific this particular brand.

Despite all the sources of information for water care, this customer chose this completely different system which is known to cause these issues throughout the industry. Had we been asked about this water care system, we would have taken the time to let the customer know before they chose it, and would have recommended against it.

We appreciate the other customers here that have posted their thoughts and support. We take customer service very seriously, and do our best to inform our customers, but we can't police everyone's activities if they do not come to us for feedback or advice.

We hope the facts will be a consideration for any potential customers that are researching the integrity of Black Pine. Black Pine has been in business for almost 30 years, and has won numerous awards from multiple entities for excellence in customer service and satisfaction.

Regards,

Black Pine Customer Care

I don't believe this complainer one bit. FYI, I also have a spa that uses those clear jets, which I bought from Black Pine.

I've also had to buy replacement jets over the years. Never had a problem. Of course, I only taken care of the water the way that was recommended from the beginning and I've been really happy.

We had a really positive purchase experience, and we've had nothing but great interactions with them every time we've needed something. This complaint can't be the whole story in my opinion.

Khasha M

I've owned two spas from Black Pine. My brother owns one.

Two of my neighbors own spas from Black Pine. We've all had to work with the service department from time to time over the years, and I can tell you not one of us has ever had a single negative experience.

Everyone can't be satisfied all the time, I guess, but my impression of this company is NOTHING like the complaint above. They're a class act in my book.
