Bethpage Car Wash

My son brought in his Chevy Avalanche to BETHPAGE CARWASH for a standard wash. When the vehicle emerged from the washing bay, he noticed that the beautiful chrome rims on the driver's side now had black blotches. He questioned the attendant, who then took out a bottle containing some mysterious liquid and began to try to fix the problem. In fact, he made it worse. When my son asked for the manager/owner, he was told that nobody with that title was around. When my son returned home, he showed me what had happened and the two of us returned to the car wash, this time with an appointment to see the owner, Akiva Mitzmacher. We explained the situation, but Mr. Mitzmacher was incredulous, dismissive and condescending. "There's no way this happened here," he kept insisting. When we argued that the aforementioned damage did indeed occur at his car wash, he instructed us to run the car through again, just so he could show us there was no way that was possible. All of us watched as the car rolled through the washing bay again, while he explained each step and how it was all safe. Honestly, I was beginning to think that maybe he was right...until the car emerged again, this time with damage to the other two rims. Now all four brand new chrome rims were ruined. When we alerted him to what had just happened right IN FRONT OF HIM, he was still arrogant, smug and flippant and continued to insist that "he had no idea what was the cause of the damage." He called over two attendants, who proceeded to apply more mystery solution to all four rims, only making the issue worse. Three of the four rims were now black. It was only after I insisted that he recognize his culpability for the damage that he said "go to a rim place, get an estimate and I will take care of it." That should have been the end of the story. But Mr. Mitzmacher's offer was disingenuous - quite simply a blatant lie. My son returned to the car wash with an estimate from a reputable "rim specialist" who had determined unequivocally that some acid based solution had striped all the chrome off the rims. Mr. Mitzmacher held on to the estimate for days. My son did not hear from him despite several attempts at contacting his cell phone. When he finally left a message for my son, he said "I called over to the rim place - it will be taken care of." Two more days went by without any word. Finally my son called the rim specialist to verify if Mr. Mitzmacher had really contacted them and we learned no such conversation had ever occurred. When my son questioned Mr. Mitzmacher about this, he avoided the issue. Then two days later my son received a text stating "come to the car wash and I will tell you my decision." At that point my son responded politely that he was not intersected in any "decision" and that Mr. Mitzmacher needed to do the honorable thing and finally take responsibility for the damage that occurred at his car wash. All my son received was a semi-incoherent reply that said "only a fool rejects an offer...I have reported you to the proper authorities. etc." There was no offer. Only more obfuscation. We have not heard anything from him since. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! This man is a criminal.
