Bear River Mutual - Crummy company

Been with Bear River for 30 years, never made a claim on either the homeowners or auto insurance, payment always on time. Storm damage on a 20 year old roof so roofing company made a claim for help getting the roof replaced.

They say roof is to old and my problem, I was told the licensed roofer is a scammer and I could be charged(!) They are now refusing to renew my homeowners and sent nasty letter to my mortgage company! I am a disabled senior citizen who cannot believe this company is treating me this way after 30 years of loyalty!!!!

Beware Buyer

Had BearRiver Home and Auto for 18+ years made first claim on roof and was CANCELED within a month.

Did some research and they are notorious for denying roof replacement claims and minimal on roof repairs.

Why have insurance if you can't make a claim without fear of being cancelled or denied ***

The worst customer service in the world

I had a claim with some merchandise stolen out of my car and i did everything that was asked of me and the claims examiner was useless. She made it were i have just going to give up on the stuff that was stolen from me after one month of total crap. Ms. Jenny Bowling does not belong working with the public, she is a ruthless, worthless person that is there to take the monthly premiums and when you need a claim she denies it.

FYI keep away form Bear River Mutual in slc utah

No help or customer service after 30 years

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They shouldn’t even get one star. We have paid thousands of dollars to Bear River for INSURANCE for over 30 years and we have never put in a claim.

A crazy woman on her cell phone tried to make a right-hand turn from the far-left lane and took me out. Guess who her insurance agency is, yes, Bear River. She even admitted it was her fault and was issued a citation. My wife talked to the insurance adjuster, Rachel, for 20 minutes and she said she had to talk to me.

I tried to call her back immediately, and she wouldn’t answer. When I finally reached her after a second attempt several hours later, I argued with her for twenty minutes. She said she has to talk to the woman who admitted she caused the accident. That doesn’t even make sense because in order for them to have a claim, she would have already had to be in touch with the woman.

I can’t even have my mechanic LOOK at the truck without the insurance company’s approval. My wife tried to call Rachel again today, and she said she had tried to contact the woman again, but I don’t really believe she has even tried to reach her. Why should she – it will just cost Bear River MONEY. I already paid $180 to have my truck towed away.

Now Rachel suggested that we pay for a rental truck out of our pocket while we are waiting. Rachel keeps telling me the woman has 30 days before she has to do anything. I have now been without my truck for seven days! I have no idea how much longer it is going to be, because my mechanic can’t even touch it, order parts, or anything without their approval.

Bear River claims “where values count” and we are like “family”. This is their way to treat family and their values? People aren't as stupid as insurance agencies think they are. Every word out of her mouth was twisted or a lie.

Do they send adjusters to “adjuster school” to teach them how to lie?

How many of you can go without your car for 30 days? THIS IS THEIR IDEA OF CUSTOMER SERVICE?

Liberty Mutual was amazing. They acted immediately and my vehicle was completely finished within 2 weeks.

They even met me at the repair shop and drove me to the car rental facility. Easiest transaction ever.

First off just know I am pretty picky and will rip companies apart online. Don’t believe me?

Just look at any of my google reviews I’ve left. I’ve had bear river for 10 years. They have been phenomenal. They covered a homeowners theft claim for me that based on their fine print, they could have easily denied.

They have also provided me road side services while on an out of state vacation and saved us. I’d stand by these guys 100%.

They are a fraud company

Like many here i wish i could give them negative stars. I have been with bear river for over 10+ years, never had to file a claim, no speeding tickets overall i was a good client.

I had auto and home with them. About 3 years ago now i filed a claim to have my roof repaired after high winds ripped some of my shingles off. Well they stopped returning my calls, they denied that it was covered, i got an adjuster who was able to get bear river scared enough to start to higher lawyers. They fought me every step of the way, my repairs were justified to file a claim for, once a the adjusters got it became a bigger ordeal.

Then began a lawsuit with what turned out to be over 40+ clients filing suits against bear river for failing to pay out any claims. Come to find out bear river paid $7000.00 to hire there lawyers to take on the case against them. Seems silly, the cost of repairs for my roof was $6500, they would rather spend more money on lawyers then paying out a claim of loyal customer. Then they had the nerve to call and tell me if I didnt get my roof repaired THEY WOULD DROP ME!?

Now thats ridiculous, the same roof i filed a claim for and that they didnt want to pay out, they are now asking ME a client/customer a person who has paid there insurance premiums for years to go and fix it myself with my own money. what a joke!

This company may have extremely reasonable rates compared to other insures but in the end if you need them, they are far from available to help you. Its like they get there money and then your on your own when claims need to be filed.

Not good... not good at all.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Very bad experience at the end of my first year, during renewal time. I had home and auto through Bear River for a year and never had any claims.

Without any cause, they raised my auto premium by nearly 20%... again, no claims, tickets or accidents. They also raised my home owners by 5%, even though I was already grossly over-insured. Even after presenting them with a recent appraisal, they refused to negotiate.

They tried to convince me that I had to pay more than the entire appraised value of the PROPERTY, instead of just the standard structure replacement cost, which is significantly less. Basically, I was more than $70,000 over-insured already and they forced another 5% on me. Total extortion scam.

I left Bear River promptly and will not be back. You've been warned.

Review in Insurance category from Salt Lake City, Utah

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Totally agree! I had been with Bear River for over 30 years and paid them well over $50,000 in premiums for both auto and home.

They used to be good 20 years ago but now only care about making a profit and doing all possible to avoid paying on legitimate claims. They use strong-arm tactics by their adjusters (Mr. Calderwood and his non-responsive manager) to argue, berate, belittle, and make it so difficult to collect on a claim that you finally give up. Their customer service and customer satisfaction ratings are as low as possible, at one star, only because it is impossible to give a lower score.

Recently when I filed a claim for wind damage on my roof they refused to replace the damaged section, instead opting to do a substandard repair which I told them was not up to specification. When the roof blew off again a year-and-a-half later they refused to pay for the claim saying I did not use their contractor. Hmm, what's wrong with that picture? The next time I contacted them about a claim on the same roof repair and complained to management at the company about how I was treated by the adjuster, they blackballed me, refused to contact me, and then send a letter to my insurance agent The same situation happened when I was involved in an automobile accident four months ago that was not my fault.

Bear River would not bother to get involved in negotiating with the other insurance company. State Farm, the company that paid my claim, treated me better than my own insurance company Bear River did. Worst customer service in the world.

Don't be lulled by the seemingly lower rates. You better pray that you do not have a claim because if you do, it will be handled irresponsibly, untimely, argumentatively, and be a huge disappointment.

Bear river mutual sucks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

These guys don't seem to care about customers, complaints, or improving relationships with those who could be otherwise very happy customers. Instead of taking the opportunity to address a customer's complaint that was posted well over a year ago on their facebook page — which came after a phone call regarding their outdated and unfriendly payment/fee policy — they instead chose the thermonuclear option: cancel all customer policies and politely tell me, the customer, to *** off.

If you like a reasonable, responsive, customer-service-centric company, stay away from these guys. They don't care about you, at least not as much as they care about smooth sailing and easy profits. That's literally what they told me as they slammed the door in my face, even after I called to work out our differences like adults. Instead they chose to hold onto a childish grudge and be vindictive rather than work it out. As a result, my rates have gone up.

So I'm letting everyone know: stay away from Bear River Mutual and their affiliates! Insurance companies are all a joke, but these guys really take it to new heights.

Bear River is Horrible-Written by a Real Customer

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Bear River will do everything and anything to NOT even pay the basic PIP benefit. They continue to ask for additional information before they even start paying, why can't they ask for everything the first time?

They have standard PIP forms. Um... It has been over 60 days and they are still asking and NOT paying. They also state they send me and my attorney letters which they don't, so they can falsify that they are working on this PIP claim.

Bear River is fraudulent and will use every illegal tactic to NOT pay out. Alex Jensen is the claims adjuster that is falsifying statements that he sends me copies of letters. I have sent e-mails to his supervisor, Ben Plowman, regarding this illegal delay.

Mr. Plowman has NEVER responded.

I like Bear River Mutual Insurance in Utah

I just wanted to tell people that Bear River Mutual Insurance in Utah is great. I believe they only cover in the state of Utah. Had them as my home and auto for over ten years. Cheap good to work with only had one fender bender totally easy to work with.

I had to move to Texas and my premium with another company has more than doubled. I know there are factors that effect the premium on where I live but double. Come on.

If you live in Utah I would recomend calling a local broker and asking about Bear River.

That's a lie. Bear river will try to not pay Claimes.

I've been fighting with them over three years now there insured turns left in front of my while on a motorcycle. There insured get the ticket in court loses and they are trying to say I'm at fault for not having enuf lights. It was a police motorcycle with lights activated.

Oh and it was not even a intersection. Heha there a joke.

Bear River Mutual are a bunch of pompous ***. Stay away from them. They don't care about their customers (or should I say victims?), only their profits.

Guest

BEWARE While Bear River may have reasonable rates, you better hope you never hae a claim. My family had a fire over three years ago that is still not resolved.

They have madeup every excuse they could think of to avoid paying the clam. They even misrepresented the coverages under the policy. Their adjusters entirely incompetent and do return email.

They avoid putting anything in writting so thay can continually chane their mind and make it impossible to resolve the claim. I WOULD NOT USE THEIR COVERAGE IF IT WAS FREE.
