Lacking Honesty & Integrity

When you do business with a company, you want to know that the business has a reputation of backing their product/ service with honesty and integrity. I have given Barner Murphy, Inc . one star (that’s the lowest you can give) because they lack those values. On June 23, 2019, I called Barner Murphy, Inc. and Mr. Murphy replied to my message with a text. I had water pooling around my hot water heater. Mr. Murphy gave me a price of $2450, including the replacement of the exchange tank. I explained to him that the exchange tank had just been replaced in September, he said OK knock $75 off the price. In addition, I had a coupon for $50 so the price was $2325. Mr. Murphy never came out to my house to look at what seemed to be a leaking hot water heater, he just looked at pictures via text. On June 24, Mr. Murphy ordered the new hot water heater and sent his partner and an employee out to replace my old hot water heater. On June 25, I went down to my basement and saw the same water pooling around my hot water heater as I did on June 23. I called Mr. Murphy and he was able to come out on June 26 to inspect while my adult daughter was home. After inspecting, Mr. Murphy phoned me at work and stated that my air conditioner condensation line was blocked and it was leaking and causing the water pooling around my water heater. My reply was, are you saying that I didn’t need a new hot water heater? Mr. Murphy’s reply was I saw your hot water heater when it was pulled and it was full of sendiment. I questioned him again, did I need a new hot water heater? He laughed and gave me the same reply. Two things here: 1) Mr. Murphy never saw my hot water heater, he didn’t come to my house to inspect or replace the old hot water heater and 2) Mr. Murphy never stated that my hot water heater was leaking, only that it had sediment at the bottom. Hot water heaters can have sediment and may need to be blead, but it doesn’t mean you need a new one or that it is leaking. Bottom line is it was my air conditioner condensation line that was leaking. I do not believe that I needed a new hot water heater. Mr. Murphy errored when he did not come out and inspect the leak and water heater prior to replacing it. He made an assumption….and mistake. I get it, we all make mistakes. And when you do make a mistake, you need to admit the mistake and resolve it with your customer. Mr. Murphy did neither one. I don’t think I am being unreasonable to say: I expected Mr. Murphy to either apologize or to refund me the labor for the install of the hot water heater. He didn’t do either one, instead his self-righteous phone conversation with me degraded in such a way that it let me know his true values and the values of Barner Murphy, Inc.

Barry is the most unprofessional pond *** you will ever have the displeasure of dealing with. He will balk & berate you if you ask for an estimate. He will complain about sending his employees (two of whom were gems that were at my home 2 days in a row) to your location (in spite of his nephew telling me they just did work around the corner from my home a few days prior), if the initial fix doesn't take care of problem, he will call you with a whole lot of attitude and try to pin the problem on you, the customer, and if that doesn't work, he will berate his employees. (I feel very sorry for whomever works for him or ever was or will be his customer.) He will tell you he's losing money sending people to your home. And then to add further insult, on Day 3, he will send a person to your home who will tell you that to put two washers on PVC piping joints that cost less than a dollar, the invoice states they charge $120/hour for a minimum of one hour (WHICH IT CLEARLY DOES NOT) so I would have paid $120 for 5 minutes of work for parts that cost less than a $1.00. That service person got sent back with nothing! So he is unbelievably unprofessional, a liar, a cheat, a whiner, and *** if he thinks anyone smart will use him after reading this review or ever have him back a 2nd time. One problem led to another which led to another and his workers did nothing wrong; things just happened. But he was determined to pin it on someone when a sink hot water faucet wouldn't shut off which led to under sink valves leaking which led to 2 PVC joints leaking due to no washer on one and wrecked one on other. I really feel sorry for whomever works for him. The lead guy was professional, answered questions, and wanted to please me, the customer, how about that - just the way the service industry is supposed to work, was truly a gem!
