Not happy with them

An update to my situation. The instruction I was given to help train my dog has not helped, and now both dogs are now having the behavioral that I have been trying to prevent. As a result, I am now seeking a different trainer to fix the issues that Bark Busters was...

Original review Oct 08, 2020
Same thing as everyone else, was charged almost 1,000 dollars for a trainer to come and do nothing. The trainer came to our house and spoke to us about 2 hours.

He was constantly getting calls from many people/customers which was not helpful. The trainer showed me a few ticks that I could look up online, nothing really helpful. After that 2 hours heard from him once, but he never called me back to setup another meeting. I emailed the company looking to see if I could switch trainers but my email was never returned.

It is not surprising to see how many others have the same issue. I would like a refund as well.
style="
The trainer has sent emails for meetups at a park 40 minutes away from my house.

Many of these meetups have been cancelled the day before the event was supposed to take place. I know the meetups seem nice, but I spent $1000.00 for individual training, not group training.
st
I wished I had seen this site before I spent my money.

Bark Busters - Scam Service/Worst Company
Same thing as everyone else, was charged almost 1,000 dollars for a trainer to come and do nothing. The trainer came for one hour, showed me some YouTube videos and animal psychology and left because he said the dog was too scared that day. Multiple vets have said their training techniques induce anxiety and aren't effective. I've emailed the company multiple times with no success. It is insane how many others they have scammed! I would like a refund, has anyone tried disputing the transaction with their bank or reporting the business to federal agencies or business bureaus?

Stay away, do research, ask for references, ask for educational background, and see what you find. I spent $995 and there is no change. Our dog showed aggression and he disappeared.

House breaking cost

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Trainer came on July 8, 2020 with a total of 4 times for approximately 4 hours. I needed help with my 6 mo old Shih Tzu with house breaking which I informed the trainer when I contacted her. Very little help was given. At 4 hrs this comes out to about $300 an hour which is outrageous. My dog is still not house broken. I phoned my trainer and she said she had done about everything she could do and to keep trying. Have had no followup in almost 1 mo. since I phoned. For the price I paid my dog should be trained by now!!!

Absolute Con-Job

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I invested $750 on the 18 March with bark busters hoping they can help us socialise our dog which we got from a rescue centre in Perth. The dog is a good dog but without knowing his full history, we can definitely see that their has been some problems with other dogs in the past and he is reactive. The trainer is aware of this. So here are the meeting since March. Meeting 1 - Took payment, gave us a check colar, 2 water bottle and a chain bag thing. Taught us how to check the dog. Meeting 2 - cancelled due to some emergency with another dog. If a dog is in a home I don't quite understand what training emergency could be. Disappointing that they took us for idiots and insult our intelligence. Meeting 3 - comes to our home unplanned and spends another 20 mins of how to train our dog and advise will re-visit in 10-14 days. No contact since. Emailed back busters on their web page. He calls and I didn't pick up in time. Ring him right back within 5 mins and left a message and all I get since is thanks for being patient. I've run out of patience cause our dog needs help training. I'd be happy to walk away with half my money back so I can find a trainer who has time to help us get our dog to a level where he can socialise. Think very hard where you throw your hard earned money. $750 doesn't come easy. I don't know about most of you, that a 40 hour week for me. We love our dog hence the investment.

Research your trainer before signing up

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am a barkbusters client and am having a problem with my assigned trainer, Rob Scheel.

I paid my initial deposit and signed up for barkbusters in July, and Rob was unable to see me for an appointment until September.

When I signed up and spoke to a barkbusters representative in July, they said that 50% of the payment would be collected by Rob at the first session, and the next half would be charged to my credit card one month to the day later. I was prepared with my half of the payment and Rob said "I don't do that, I have bills to pay".

This struck me as unprofessional and was contrary to what I was told by the representative who signed me up.

I continued to have concerns with my dog Herby's behaviour problems, one of which is leash aggression. He is a therapy dog and I fear that this problem may result in us getting kicked out of the program. When Rob came back 6 weeks later for a follow up appointment this behavior was still not addressed and continues to be a problem. I also signed my Mom's dog Georgie up for training, mainly for puppy obedience.

Georgie was 5 months old at the time. She is now 1 year old and has received no puppy training, nor has Rob offered my Mom any sort of puppy training plan. As a result, both of our dogs are suffering.

Rob does not offer any follow up appointments on evenings or weekends. My Mom and I are both healthcare workers and find these hours almost impossible to work with.

These hours are not consistent with the norm of industry standards.

I sent Rob two emails with very specific questions and concerns. No resolution has been reached.

In correspondence, he appeared evasive and unprofessional. I saved all my emails with him and would like to forward them for head office to review.

I trusted that barkbusters could help me with my dog, and I am disappointed with the lack of respect and lack of provided training.

In January 2020 I reached out again with the same problems. At this point my dog had the same unresolved issues since July 2019, and my moms puppy was now 1 year old and had received no formal puppy training.

I found this unacceptable and wanted to set up an appointment and could not find a suitable time within Robs restricted office hours. I tried to reach a resolution with Rob who was unprofessional, disorganized and unhelpful to me as a client. When I mentioned I wanted to speak to someone at head office for help he discouraged me and said that there was no one else that could help me. I reached a dead end with him and called the Barkbusters Canadian head office for a resolution.

I asked for a refund and they thought that half of the money back was fair. I was not happy with that decision as I don't feel that the quality of training or time of training I received valued $576. Barkbusters advertises a "guaranteed result" and a "lifetime support" but after coming out for the first 4 hour spiel it is nearly impossible to set up future appointments. My issue for seeking help was never addressed and as a pet owner I feel I have done my dog a disservice for not getting him the proper help for a serious matter.

I want to warn other pet owners of the way that this business operates and as a consumer would say that this service is not worth your money. Sincerely, Katy Walsh

Do not support this buisness

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
If you are a client looking for the best quality of training for your dog, this is not your answer. I signed up for barkbusters in July of 2018 desperate for help with my dogs newly developed leash aggression. Barkbusters seemed appealing because they offered a guaranteed result and a lifetime support. When I called to sign up, I was offered a promotion to add another dog from the same household to the program. I paid extra to add my moms 5 month year old puppy for puppy training. At the first appointment, the designated trainer to my area, Rob Scheel, was more than happy to be flexible offering to come on weekends, stat holidays or evenings. He collected my $1,152 for "lifetime support" at the first session (which is a verbal instruction to the owner on how to speak with and deal with your dog. ) My main concern, leash aggression was not discussed, nor was any puppy training program, goals skills or objectives set up or discussed for my moms dog. After the first meeting and collecting the payment, Robs office hours for follow ups suddenly change from monday to Friday 9-4 PM. If you are a working class person like myself, good luck getting an appointment within the parameters of that availability. Rob came for a follow up again in November where he asked how things were going. Leash aggression was still a pressing issue for me and not addressed. In January I reached out again with the same problems. At this point my dog had the same unresolved issues since July 2018, and my moms puppy is now 1 year old and has received no formal puppy training. I found this unacceptable and wanted to set up an appointment and could not find a suitable time within Robs restricted office hours. I tried to reach a resolution with Rob who was unprofessional, disorganized and unhelpful to me as a client. I reached a dead end with him and called the barkbusters Canadian head office for a resolution. I asked for a refund and they thought half of the money back was fair. I wanted more as I don't feel that the quality of training or time of training I received valued $550. I want to warn other pet owners of the way that this buisness operates and as a consumer would say that this service is not worth your money.

Unethical and out of touch

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Jordan came to our home to work with our five month old and ten year old pups. He was late arriving and we had trouble getting a straight answer on if he was going to make it or not. We called the number on the website but got an operator who said she didn't have his number but could email him. When he finally arrived we got started and he showed us the bah technique and the water bottle technique. They both appeared to work well but we didn't get the full time as he was a bit rushed to leave. He also looked a bit flustered because his father was calling him about another engagement and he was having trouble getting him off the phone to say goodbye to us. My wife and I took the new skills Jordan taught us and set out to work with our pups. About two days into it we started noticing that our five month old stopped caring about the surprise bah and so we contacted Jordan for a follow up training. He let my wife know that he was busy at the moment but would send her possible times and days when he got home. This was on the 19th. We did not hear back from him until I sent an email to the corporate office a week and a half later. His response was defensive and tried to place the blame for his lack of communication and follow up back on us which is very unprofessional. If you read previous reviews about Jack it looks like the trainers at Bark Busters all use the same surprise tactics with their clients dogs. Honestly I can't see how this works long term with any dog. I have had large bread hunting dogs my whole life and I have never been taught to yell bah or squirt my dog in the face with a water bottle. Eventually this looses its surprise and the dog thinks it's a game. We found a new trainer who observes your pup and then builds their training based off of the dog specific behavior. That sounds more like a $1,000 service rather then using the same approach to every situation without really taking the time to get to know the client or the dog you are working with. Dustin Update: I contact Jordan and Jenny to ask for a refund for the service I was not provided and this is what I got in return. ---------------------------------------------------- Dustin, Following up from our text conversation I am moving this to email at your request. I am very sorry your experience was so poor. Jordan did error in this and I am resolving with him on your situation. In response to the details you called out in your review, I would like to address some of them please. Regarding the call-out on Jordan leaving early, the lesson was scheduled from 1-3pm. I verified that the charge hit at 3:30pm so 30 min past the end of the lesson was scheduled to be wrapped up and he had another client to travel to. You also mentioned that after 2 days the dogs were not responding. Puppies brains take time to develop and training needs to be consistent and repetitive. Training is not an overnight fix but rather something that becomes part of your daily routine. Just as a dog learns the word "sit" it take repetition to learn that word. In the same way, a dog needs repetition in training. In regards to a Surprise BAH, it is not a surprise. It is used with dogs just the same way that a mother dog communicates to her pups. The mother corrects her pups with body language and a growl sound. We do observe the dogs, their actions, and their body language. A foundation is the beginning of training and then it is built upon from there. I understand that you feel differently but I wanted to at the very least address some of the things you called out. That said, I have spoken to the home office in regards your refund request. Home office asks that they be made aware of any refunds being issued. They are not in support of me providing a refund due to the details of the support contract, however, I would like to work with you on this and have made that clear to them as well. You did receive a full lesson on Sept 14, 2019 which as a stand-alone lesson is called a Foundations Lesson. We do need to be compensated for our time on this. I would like to refund you the difference of the 2 dog Lifetime support minus the Foundations Lesson, a drastically reduced cost for the 2nd dog, and a travel fee. The refund will be sent to you and Nicole by check on the agreement that you remove your review and place no further reviews online. The check will be issued as soon as it is pulled and I will send via priority mail so you can receive it quickly. Please confirm this agreement and I will begin processing. Charged 2 Dog Lifetime Support Purchased on 9/14/19 $1095.00 Foundations Visit (2 hr Lesson) -$345.00 2nd Dog Charge (Usually $200. Will Reduce to $50) -$50.00 Travel Fee (Standard on Refunds) -$50.00 Balance due to Nicole & Dustin $650.00 Regards, I do not appreciate someone who tries to buy reviews, that just wrong and speak volumes to the character of the people who run Barkbusters. You should be ashamed of your conduct.

BARK BUSTERS is a scam do not buy into their BS method there is no method just a giant hole left in your pocket! I don't believe they have professional trainers in this company they do have professional rip off artists that are good at their sale pitch and telling BS to the client to get them to write a giant check as the smile shake your hand and walk away with your money.

DO NOT CALL these people thinking they are the answers to your training needs! They are just coming to kick you in the *** and remind you evil people do exist in this world and they come disguised as a Bark Buster trainer!.

Don't do it

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Thought I had found my cure. Had a siberian husky puppy who needed training.

Had tried one session of regular training in a class setting but found that I needed more training and when i walked my puppy, i didn't have the control I wanted. I thought this one on one training would be ideal. Also, would have lifetime support. They came out, tried to encourage me to growl at my dog, and then worked on some issues which my dog doesn't even have.

For example, greeting people at the door. My dog won't even go down the stairs to get to the door. He is scared of the stairs. People can get all the way upstairs before they know I have a dog.

He doesn't bark at them, not a guard dog. The issues I had with him were never dealt with. My issues were getting him to walk on a lead without jumping on me , biting and scratching to the point that blood was pouring down my arms. Looking totally out of control.

Bought a $50.collar that he didn't he make sure fit the dog correctly, since learned that is critical. Taught me to throw water bombs at my dog when he was acting incorrectly or throw bean bags. My dog at the time scared of leaving the cul de sac and other dogs and now I am making loud noises so that he is more fearful of walking plus it did nothing to stop the biting and where was I getting the additional hands to throw things at him when I was defending myself or trying to hold the leash. Waste of money and time.

I think it a franchise that you can get trained on their training methods and purchase your area of suckers. when calling for follow up, always too busy with personal issues to come back. Just don't think he knew how to train my dog. Found another trainer who in one hour of one on one time taught me how to walk with heeling and be in control of the dog.

Yes, I had to go to a prong collar which the bark buster trainer said was not good; however, I can now walk with my dog with prong, if he is being controlling, or no prong, even off leash.

I don't have to growl, or pretend to be a dog, but just with being in control and gentle pressure, the dog knows how to respond. Waste of money and they never return.

Stay away

After reading ALL of the complaints I am so thankful I did not get involved with Dog Busters but unfortunately my wife did. Turning into my driveway I noted a bright green yellow van parked (engine not running) in an alcove on the side of the house which is posted with THREE no parking signs put up by our city.

I mentioned the truck to my wife she decided to go out to put a note on the car to let the driver know that the site was patrolled often by the police and that he may want to move and not get a ticket. The driver turned his windshield wipers on and opened his window. She explained that he was in a no parking area and that there may be a chance of him getting a ticket. He challenged her and said that it was a public street visibly irritated.

He then started his van abruptly backs into our driveway knocking down a sawhorse that was there.

He didnt stop, just zoomed away.

Having owned a business I know I would not like an employee acting like this with especially with the name of my company on the van.

ps. We have security cameras.

I was told by the trainer they sent out that the lifetime membership was 800 dollars. The trainer cancelled the first two appointments, when he did come out he offered a reduced rate because of the inconveniences to my family. He did come out ONCE and wanted half up front, 340 dollars, for 2 hrs and there was no contract or receipt, he spent more time talking about his life and experiences. That was the last we saw of him it has been over 2 months now. Tried contacting the company and the phone number is out of service. Emailed the company with no results.

They act like slum lords in beautiful Newport Beach, CA. They never did any maintenance in over 20 years, including but not limited to painting replacing old and worn carpet and drapes. Instead choose a behavioral therapist backed by a college degree

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
First the call to corporate told us the initial consult is free and that at the end of the home visit a contract could be signed for the lifelong classes. The instructor arrives (late) announcing that she is $125 an hour (I read elsewhere they make $12 an hour) and that she still expects to be compensated for her gas and time if we don't sign the contract. We were charged $250 for our free 3 hour consult ... and chose not to sign up for the 'lifetime' $700 contract. The contract loop hole is that if the dog does not improve, than the client broke the contract by not following their directions somewhere along the way. So your lifetime of the dog ends after a few months, because if the program had been properly followed, there would never be a need for another refresher in the future. So in this three hours, she admits she hasn't read our filled out behavior questionnaire because she doesn't have it. We sent it twice and retained a copy. We would have gladly resent it if at any point she had admitted that she lost it yet again. She did nothing to prepare for the session. She didn't even know the name of the dog. She complained that we hadn't told her that the dog had separation anxiety. (she didn't read her own questionnaire.) She told us never to say No to the dog nor use hand signals for wait but to call out "Bah" for all of the following: attention, come, wait, stay, No, leave it, keep a distance, don't jump on people, stop barking, don't growl, don't chase, don't lunge, etc. She gave me the ultimatum from the start: that if I couldn't say "Bah" in the canine tone she told me to .. that she couldn't work with me! Save your money. All she did was crate the dog the first 2 hours of her visit. When she finally saw the dog for the first time, he was submissive and turned to each of us, and yet, we all spray bottled him for approaching us and our 'dominant' dog hid behind the couch for 20 minutes. When the one person the dog is comfortable with was instructed to now call the dog, the dog was uncertain, hesitant and confused about approaching. Her tactics made our dog cower and hide yet she was proud of her achievement in establishing dominance. She bad mouthed our dog trainer as zapping dogs for bad behavior (although I explained twice that he is against that) and then she proceeded to bad mouth a graduate in animal behavior who is well written, a traveled speaker, acclaimed therapist, etc. as someone who 'just uses treats' and will recommend euthanizing any dog she is unable to help. I asked the bark busters lady what philosophy she then is promoting and she replied, "something between" those two extremes. Ask your vet to recommend an obedience trainer or behavioral therapist (depending on the needs of your dog).

We adopted a 4year old black mouth cur that had zero training. I’ve had dogs throughout my 60 years of life and knew we needed help. I wasn’t crazy About the “bah” fear technique used for teaching and found it plus the water bottle, simply made my dog run away and fear us. I decided to use behavior modification and reward techniques , which I had success with in the past, and within months I had a very well “trained” and “behaved dog”; yes he learned simple hand signals. No yelling. No bahing. No dog cowering. Just a dog who was eager to please. Call me uninformed but when I attended the national police dog competition I noticed not one of the trainers shouting bah or throwing bags of chains or sprayed water at their dogs. BTW. My previous dog learned hand signals which became very important in his senior years after he lost his hearing.
