AI Highlights
  • - Verillas/Ayyawear has inconsistent communications.
  • - A custom tabi was too small and returned for exchange; months later, no shoes or refund.

I was refunded more than a month after I requested a refund.

Original review Mar 31, 2017

I'd think thrice before ordering from this company Verillas, also known as Ayyawear. Their internal communications malfunctions from time to time.

A pair of custom-sized tabi footwear I ordered was too small so I had returned it for an exchange. One of their representatives informed me she put the exchange order through and to expect delivery within 6 weeks. Another representative told me to wait 9 weeks. I waited an additional six months but never received the shoes, or a notification that the exchange order didn't reach their manufacturer, or a refund, despite their assurance they're working on it (for a month).

Considering the prices of their footwear, I'd suggest looking elsewhere; yes there are others who sell tabis.

Besides, their so-called custom fit doesn't work because they only use standard-sized outsoles. If you have a wide foot, they'll use an outsole about 2 sizes bigger than you need lengthwise.

Loss:
$109

Preferred solution: Full refund

Ayya has ruined a once-in-a-lifetime event.

AI Highlights
  • - Custom items did not use my measurements, and the boots were late and too narrow.
  • - Refunds are not timely and support gave conflicting info.

A couple of years ago, I came across a website that sells beautiful custom clothing and leather goods. They are called Ayya, and they are located at www.ayyawear.com. I should have listened to the internal doubts I had about ordering something from Indonesia. This is absolutely the worst online retail experience I have ever had.

They claim that they can customize all their offerings as necessary. This has turned out to be a LIE. Both the items I ordered"”a belt and a pair of their custom tabi boots"”were made without taking in the measurements I sent in to them. The belt, I can fix; it will be a simple matter of putting an extension on it in matching leather (though I should never hae had to do so). I am a costumer myself, so I know how to measure. I checked and double-checked the measurements. They first took more than twice the time it states on their website to get the boots to me, and then, when I tried them on, they were nineteen centimeters--roughly six inches--too narrow for my calves. I know for a fact that they received my measurements, because a rep named Merlissa verified them with me.

Now, they are jerking me around about giving my money back in any timely manner. The attitude of this Merlissa has been to behave like the entire situation was MY fault somehow. She has been making me wait days for replies, lying to me and giving me conflicting information.

Not having these boots for the event I purchased them for has been as serious to me as if someone ruined my wedding dress, and they are doing absolutely nothing thus far to remedy this. That's why I intend to tell as many people as I can:

BYPASS AYYA!

Ayyawear is now owned by Verillas, and is for sale on Verillas.com - a company in Virginia in the USA. Much better buying experience, and much better quality.

I've seen Verillas' site and am not seeing the same level of variety that Ayya had. I'll watch them, though, and see how things develop. :-)

So, I no longer hate them, but cannot change my name. One of the owners of the company took the time to work this matter out with me and, at this point, I am as pleased as I had been angry previously.

Some very real compassion and consideration was shown to me over the event that I missed out on, and Niko has completely turned this situation around. He even thanked me for bringing it to his attention, since it highlighted some issues that he had been unaware of.

I have come away from this feeling much, much better, and my faith in Ayya has been restored. Going forward, I know they will be able to smooth out this rough spot and continue to grow their company.
