Installation question
I wanted information regarding a retractable awning. I was only able to leave a message as there wasn't any option to talk to a live person. Thus far I have not received a return call,

Purchased fixed awning and the sizing is off. Need to purchase one or two additional middle panels to complete the installation
Bad Choice of Product
Ordered two awnings. Upon delivery saw the support bars were like toys.
Complete junk. My installers could not get the confusing instruction diagrams to line up with the actual product. Screws to hold the support bars together did not fit, holes did not line up with other parts. Charged for an upgrade in material that was not upgraded at all.
I have now read reviews on Consumer Advocates and this website.
Same complaints from many customers. Do not buy this product.
Preferred solution: Full refund
Awntech customer service get an ***
I would discourage anyone from ever buying an Awntech product - from Lowes or anywhere else (although THANK GOODNESS we did purchase from Lowes because they have been wonderful!! Awntech, not so much.)
We purchased a $1400 motorized semi-cassette awning through Lowes and it came in in 3 weeks, as promised. I hired an authorized Sunsetter awning installer (Lowes has no one to install these) who promptly installed my awning and we discovered, after a few days, that it was defective, making a screeching noise when retracting or extending and rubbing on the fabric, creating a white stripe from the paint rubbing off the center bracket. Lowes took it back and ordered me another one, we decided to upgrade to a "full" cassette to avoid any bracket issues and it arrived quickly as a replacement.
We discovered shipping damage due to poor packaging (compared to the previous awning, which was very well packaged) on one end of the awning, which Awntech agreed to send replacement parts - so installer proceeded to install anyway since it would not impact operation.
This upgrade included a different override manual shaft that allows for the awning to be manually retracted in the event of a power outage. No instructions were included for this modified version (compared to previous version, was was factory installed.) When ask, Awntech TS, who are very snarky and certainly less than friendly or helpful, quipped that this $300 more upgraded awning did not have a way to retract the awning except by physically inserting the 8" long hook/shaft into the gear box and turning it with your hand YET THEY INCLUDED A 5' CRANK HANDLE, that mates perfectly with the shaft they included (their response was we include those with every awning, but it won't work with yours.)
Bottom line, Lowes made me whole with an additional discount that was satisfactory to me and I'm now on my own. You can forget their 5 year warranty - it took Lowes managers at least a dozen phone calls to get them to do all of the above and now they are not returning Lowe's calls. Imagine that, Lowes, the largest hardware company in the world, and they sell their awning all over the US through them and they don't return multiple Lowe's calls - Lowes said they have reported them to their upper management and the "buyer" who they (and I) hope will discontinue their relationship with this company - trust me, that is a good thing.
WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH AWNTECH unless you enjoy fighting for everything - and you can forget the 5 year warranty - a week out of the box and it was all uphill and took Lowes to get them to replace it. 0 Stars for Awntech. *** whatever you prefer, they are not pleasant to deal with.
Worst of the worst
I bought an awntech awning with a hand crank and it was almost impossible to close. I then ordered a motor for it from awntech.
It came with parts missing. When I called to complain they accused me of loosing the part. They are the worst company I ever saw. Their prices are higher then Sunsetter and do not compare to the quality and service of Sunsetter.
Awnings are made to be installed outside and their hardware is not made of stainless steel and therefor rust out very quickly.
their gear box comes with no grease so they are extremely hard to operate. Do not buy one.
AWNTECH
After a long, long wait, I finally gave up hearing from Awntech.
After only five weeks, the awning failed due to no gear lubrication,
and we have to roll the $1000+ piece of *** up by hand.
I have subsequently contacted a law firm and am in the process of
filing a legal solution to this unbelievable mess. I caution anyone
doing business with this company, to never expect any response to a warranty issue, and only if you have purchased their junk from a
company such as Home Depot, (who has horsepower), can you ever hope to get any results.
Awntech service is no-existant no response after weeks and weeks
Better Business Bureau has this company rated \"F\".
If time and money is important to you, stay away from dealing with an (\"F\" for failure)-rated business.
I now own a $1500 worthless piece of junk, that can only be fixed by a company who doesn\'t care. They have my money, and I have their garbage..
We are still waiting after several weeks to be contacted by AWNTECH
CUSTOMER SERVICE, to answer what they intend to do about replacing the
roll-up gears that failed because of no lubrication. Any normal company would be glad to explain, why there wasn't ONE drop of lubricant in the gear
box, and why the gears ground to dust after only 5 weeks of operation.
One would also expect that by failing to respond, the only option left
is to file several consumer complaints, and to contact the small claims court in Texas, to serve notice, we mean business.
Awntech gear failure after 5 weeks
ordered a $1000+ awning directly from AWNTECH in Texas, and was delivered weeks late. after installing the unit, we noticed it was very difficult
to rewind once it was in the down position.
We thought it would "break in", and get better with a break-in period. Decided to remove the gear box to see if we may have created aproblem, or was improperly installed.
All that was found inside the gearbox was ground up gears. not "one drop" of lubricant..
sent several e-mails to AWNTECH customer service, and to this date, no response. BBB rating is "F"..JUNK
Awntech is garbage
Awntech claims to have a warranty against fading of their awning fabrics. What that translates to is a few months after you discover that there is no UV protection, as stated on their adverts, you can buy a replacement fabric at the low discounted rate of $350.
Not including shipping of course. And that is one heavy piece of fabric. So hopefully you have a family member that works at FedEx of UPS so you can get a deal and then you'll be in under $400 to pay for what they won't honor. Sad business practices.
Seriously. It'll catch up to them though :)
Awntech will not honor warranty guarantee
Anyone that gives Awntech a rating higher than the lowerst has not waited long enough for the sun to shine. It fades and there is no warranty.
The website claims there is a "limited" warranty which translates to "when the fabric fades you can buy a new one from us"....for over $300. The fabric fades within months and there is no warranty or guarantee on the product although it is stated on their own website that there is a five year warranty on the fabric. Customer service is limited to 2 workers that are dishonest and the business practice of this company is fraudulent.
