Let us say at the outset that this complaint is completely and utterly wrong and indefensible. The person in question was a small startup that had little or no knowledge of how an online travel business works.

He wanted to market a completely new website in the b2c space without strong enough negotiated rates that are required to compete against established players in the market. He failed in his business and has posted the exact same review on different sites to unjustifiably tarnish our reputation.

Let us shed some light on his case: He came to us with an API contract with the largest Rental Car Consolidator in Europe. The net rates he got from the supplier were higher than some of the established UK sites.

What he failed to understand was the fact that they were all subsidiaries of the same supplier.

He wanted lower rates than those brands, which was impossible as no supplier would provide rates to their agents that are lower than their own rates. Moreover, he realized that to market a website in the B2C space you need a whole lot of money running into 100s of thousands of dollars which he did not have.

We at TravelCarma follow a consultative approach with our clients, always keen to guide them and advise strategies that would maximize their gains based on our experience of over 20 years in the industry.

Therefore, we clearly explained all of the above to him and forewarned him of the business challenges that he would be likely to face.

We explained to him the importance of rates in the b2c space and stressed that he won’t be able to immediately compete with established brands on the price. However, he was adamant to go ahead and didn’t listen to us. So we delivered the system as per his requirements, including the payment gateway along with all the changes he demanded.

The website delivered to him was in fine working order, showing live feeds from the contracted supplier.

We would like to make it loud and clear here that we are merely a technology provider and are not responsible for the business success or failures of our clients. These are dependent on a number of factors outside technology. Obtaining contracts with suppliers, negotiating net rates/commissions and actively marketing the website to customers/affiliates through SEO, Social Media, Newsletters etc are all responsibilities of the client.

Failure to do any of these or a combination thereof can cause the downfall of the business. As it turned out, he was unable to contract the rates which would allow him to compete. That was his problem and he wanted us to refund money after all we did all the work for him in setting up his online portal. He was someone small with big ideas, who spent all his money on setting up an online business but had no clue about how an online travel business works and how to run one.

So we were the only agency where he could try and get some money back and thus made us the scapegoat for his failures. Naturally, we told him that we would not be able to refund the money and we had no contractual obligation to do so. The business issues he faced had nothing to do with our solution and were therefore outside the scope of the contract. Also, he is lying out of his teeth when he says we did not respond.

We did respond on phone and via emails explaining that we are not responsible for the business per se and had delivered the solution as committed. DO NOT…we repeat…DO NOT let this complaint influence your impression of TravelCarma, as it is completely BASELESS, MISLEADING and driven by MALICE. We are a trusted name in the world of travel technology and consulting, and our platform is successfully used by companies of all shapes and sizes worldwide. Most of it was plug and play software application and very easy to use. We are extremely satisfied with them.
