Colonoscopy Bait & Switch
Original review updated by user Apr 18, 2021My doctor ordered a colonoscopy for me as a preventative procedure. Days later I get a call from Aurora saying my payment would be approx. $3K because it was ordered as a "diagnostic". I immediately emailed my doctor who ordered it and asked why this was being ordered as a "diagnostic"; I've had no problems or issues ever. I STATED (in writing) I WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROCEDURE IF IT WAS NOT COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. My doctor's office emailed back that my procedure WAS ORDERED AS A "SCREENING" and gave me the code so I could double check the coverage with my insurance. I then called Aetna Insurance and gave them the code my doctor gave me for the screening procedure. Aetna said the procedure would be covered at 100%. I had the procedure 2 weeks later. Three weeks after that I RECEIVED A BILL FOR $3681.81 as it was billed as a "diagnostic" procedure and Aetna would not cover it. Three department officials stated to me, that since I had a colonoscopy in 2013 that had a polyp removed, all subsequent colonoscopies for me would be "diagnostic". This is Aurora's policy. WHY THEN DID MY DOCTOR ORDER THIS AS A SCREENING THEN? And worse yet, wouldn't my doctor tell me that? Why did my smart, savvy internist doctor not know the guidelines of Aurora when ordering colonoscopies?? Aurora will NOT address this issue. I RELIED ON WHAT MY DOCTOR TOLD ME IN ORDER TO DECIDE TO HAVE THIS PROCEDURE. I feel bamboozled. Anyone have a similar story? Any advice out there?

Screwed me over in my immigration exam!
Aurora Health Center - went for immigration exam and was told the cost would be $150 plus vaccinations by 2 different people. It turns out I need a blood-test, which the doctor said would be included in the price - I pay my $150 and went on my merry way. The next morning, I receive a call saying I need to pay $95 for a blood test, even though I was told it would be free as it's not a vaccine. After arguing for over an hour with the receptionist, who calls me a liar yet eventually accepts the fact they made mistakes, she said "Just come in and sign your papers, and we'll be finished." Great! I went in this morning and signed my papers, but was again hounded for the $95 despite having resolved the matter. The doctor then writes on my immigration papers, "Patient refused to pay for blood-test." This comment MAY impair my immigration chances...the receptionist tells me that the comment will be removed if I pay the $95 - even though she admitted they made the mistakes!! I'm pretty sure that's blackmail. Also a receptionist who wasn't even involved said to me and my husband, "If your husband truly cared about you, he'd have been in the examination with you and would know the whole story!" Wow. We left without paying and contacted our lawyer to see if this comment will screw up my immigration process. If it will, then we have to pay for their mistakes. The staff are rude, lazy and have no compassion. Avoid Aurora Health Center on Weston Ave, IL, at all costs!
