AI Highlights
  • 13KW unit fits the need.
  • Canadian company; drop-shipped to Texas; Aurora delivered.
  • Almost a year old; has worked flawlessly on a dozen uses.

I used a variety of backup generators for decades, and I was looking for something that better suited my needs. I needed something in the 13KW power range, and they had the perfect unit.

Since this was a Canadian company, it took a little effort to have it drop-shipped here in Texas, but Aurora delivered and was a great help all the way. Not to mention, this unit is almost a year old, and has worked flawlessly for the dozen times I've had to rely on it.

It's built with quality components, and it shows. For my needs, it's the best purchase I could have made.

User's recommendation: This company builds to order, but it's worth the wait.

Aurora Generators - Great Service and Support

It seems like people are talking about portable generators Aurora has not made for over 10 years. I used to own one.

I now own a 20-kW Perkins-powered generator from them. It has over 5,000 hours of use and works like day one.

Yes, I"'m off the grid. There are no issues here.

User's recommendation: A leader in small diesel generators.

Purchased Silent Diesel Generator

AI Highlights
  • First-year failures: battery lugs, fuel filter leak, and fuel pump circuit issues.
  • Support was condescending; warranty would not cover engine repair.
Updated by user Jun 10, 2013

Here's latest news. I put this complaint on another review site- seems its in the same town Aurora.

The owner threatened me and the website owner with a lawsuit if it wasn't removed.

Both myself and the website owner told him to go ahead...should be great for business for a business owner to sue customers for voicing their displeasure at his bad behavior. I still have an $1800 paper weight hunk of junk.

Original review May 10, 2013
Decided to do it right and run it an hour at a time with 1/4 load like they state to break it in properly. After 5 hours, the cheap crimped battery lugs fell off; the fuel filter started leaking all over the place. After 9 hours, the connector on the circuit board that powers the fuel pump safety solenoid loosened, arched over and failed. Had to remove the plunger on the fuel pump to get it to work. After 14 hours- the engine died period- would not start for anything. All this happened during the first year of ownership. With every call to support- another condescending answer- like I'm a diesel mechanic. The engine died just over the year warranty- so the company basically said," take it to a diesel mechanic". Upon opening the engine- they discovered that the valve adjuster had backed out and fell out into the engine, causing the tappet to fall out and ruin the engine block- 14 hours. Not even enough time to warrant a valve adjustment. Ron Katz, the owner lied to me; lied to the mechanic. They first told him they would pay for a new engine if I paid for shipping. When he called back to order it, they told him I had to pay for it.They accused me of not using the right fuel; not knowing what I was doing...basically anything they could throw at me.

Buy a generator form this company at your own risk- the silent diesel is junk- the owner is a liar; and doesn't stand by his products.

Oh and don't believe the BBB A+ rating- its a sham. They wait till the time elapses; say they sent a response when they didn't, and call it resolved.

I have never dealt with a company so crooked. Lesson learned.

I too have dealings 10/2022 with Aurora Generators and have been left sadly disappointed after spending over $20,000.00.

Thanks for putting up this website! I also have a so-called "silent" diesel.

Very disappointing performance. Would not start after it's first (mandated) 10 hour oil change because the "impossible to remove unless you broke it off" emission control fell off into the bottom of the case. After re-arranging the POS plastic fuel filter they put on it so that the fuel would flow, I had to bypass the fuel solenoid because the low oil pressure shut-down electronics failed. It does run now after a week of working on it.

This? In a brand new generator? Oh, yes, and when I finally did get it running, my domestic water pump (less than 1 hp) trips the breaker with only a light load on it. Technician says I need to replace my pump with a "soft-start" pump so there won't be a surge!

Hello?

My 5000 watt Coleman gas generator never tripped on the water pump. More to come!

Consumer Reports did a review of diesel generators and they rated one of the top brands. Don't see how one customer can have so many problems.

One issue fine.

Multiple issues is normally user related.

Aurora Generator needs to step up their game.

Review is from the same person posting all over the place. Some people should not own any tools or machines.

There are thousand of reviews out there and more positive ones than any other brand.

Kind of hard to trust a guy who spends his time trolling review sites.

wow... that does for me ... a new duromax looks like the way to go
