Car Broke Down 20 Miles Off The Dealership Lot, Overheated 3X

Test drove a 2005 Chevy Equinox 4/10/14 with 77,1xx miles on it , Drove fine but test drive was only 2 miles so the car did not have an opportunity to get to operating temperature. dealership was unaware of interstate laws with registration.

had to wait 6 weeks for the paperwork/registration to process. Finally Got the Vehicle at 3PM on Monday 5/19/14 with 78,xxx Miles?? strange since i had a deposit on the vehicle, Vehicle Broke Down 20 miles outside dealership on a busy Highway approximately 3:25pm same day. Overheated 3 Times Temperature Gauge Fluctuated Wildly .

Dealership was not helpful at all and would not offer a solution other than going to a Jiffy Lube to get it fixed. Had to use last AAA Towing to get the vehicle back to the dealership. Blown Head Gasket in My Opinion, Radiator Reservoir Bubbling and exhaust smelled of Coolant badly. Oil Level was 3X too high and Drivers side headlight was out.

They claim a 200 Point Inspection? Dealership seemingly Dodged all my calls and concerns about the vehicle for 2 days. Wanted to return the vehicle but Atlantic Hyundai would not accept a return. Vehicle still sits on Dealership Lot.

They called me and said it was fixed but I believe the problem is more than a broken Thermostat as I placed my hand on the Thermostat hose and it was red hot and it would not be that hot if coolant was stuck in the engine. I cancelled my Registration and Insurance and Notified the bank of my Intent of not Paying for a Vehicle I do not have in my Possession since they will not accept the vehicle back. very bad experience. and i will Post my Experience everywhere I have an opportunity to on the internet to warn people of the bad experience I had.

My credit is surely ruined because of this and I have to consider any action available to me to salvage my credit and attempt to recoup my $2400.00 deposit.

Do Not Shop There Unless you have the Car Double Checked. Let The Buyer Beware.

Three visits and still not right!!

I went in with my 2009 Santa Fe Ltd to have a blown door speaker replaced under warranty. That was on April 27.

I was told there was nothing wrong with the speaker. I returned on June 8 to have the speaker replaced. This time they agreed that the speaker was no good but they did not have it in stock. Let me say now that each visit has cost me three hours.

So, on June 22 I return yet again happy that I will finally get my speaker replaced. I even called to ensure that the part came in. After waiting about ninety minutes I was told that the box had the correct part number on it but the part inside was incorrect.

What a bunch of A@@holes!! Now I have to make a fourth trip out there.

Atlantic Hyundai dealer sales guys and GM lied to me costing me over 500 dollars.

Updated by user Apr 12, 2012

So the day after posting my original complaint, I recevied a phone call from the sales guy Carlos Vargas stating they would pay my bill. He requested a copy of the bill which I faxed to him. He also requested that I remove my original post from this site, to which I said I would only remove it once their payment was received by the leasing company. So I gave them some time to make the payment, and off course their payment was NEVER received by the leasing company. I guess they think people are *** in believing what they say. So this was just another one of their scams in making believe they will do the right thing. And so, this is the reason why you should never deal with Atlantic Hyundai, Carlos Vargas, Bryan Harris, and their GM Dan Toomey. If they get a change to ***......They will in a second. They cannot be trusted and you should never even walk in their door. Save yourself some money and do not deal with them.

So, the end result is that their scam will cost me over 500 dollars. But, I believe they will lose alot more potecntial business with people reading these sites that give the consumer a level playing field to warn people NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!

ps- Working on putting up a website dedicated to hearing additional problems that other people have experienced with this dealership. I will do everthing in my power to warn people and they will regret screwing me over in the end!!

Remeber: ATLANTIC HYUNDAI - Just stay away from these theives!!

Update: The day after I posted this complaint the sales guy calls me and says \"please fax him a copy of the bill\", that they will now pay the outstanding balance (over 500 dollars) directly to the leasing company. So, we faxed a copy of the bill, and are waiting to hear if the leasing company has recieved their check. And so, its been about 10 days now and still haven\'t heard if the check has been recieved yet. I will be fair and give them two weeks for the check to arrive, and will update.

Amazing how this site works. One post and the very next day I heard from the dealer. Awesome that the consumer has a site like this that can actually entice companies to \"do the right thing\".

Thanks

The sales guy Carlos wrapped up my lease, and trade in on sunday, and calls on Monday saying they will not buy my car from the leasing company. He says He needs the new lease car returned immediatley. I tell Carlos and Brian Harris that I have a signed deal. They say no I do not. After arguing for over an hour, I let them them bring me a loaner car, and they promise to return my old leased car back to the leasing company so i can be assured of no additional charges on the lease return. So the next day (Tuesday) Carlos returns my new leased car to me, along with paperwork from the return of my old leased car back to the leasing company. He signs the paperwork stating there are no additional charges on the returned vehicle. Great right? Well two weeks later I get a bill from the leasing company for over five hundred dollars.

So, I call the General Manager DanToomey, and expalin to him how these two sales guys ORCHESTRATED this sham. Dan was real nice and said he would pay these charges. Great right??

So I fax Dan a copy of the bill, and now its four weeks later and still no check. Dan will not answer or return my phone calls.

This dealer can not be trusted, they will lie to your face. They are professional swindlers. I know of other people who have had problems with these guys and been told they have a bad rep in the industry.

Save yourself alot of trouble and don't go near this group.

Atlantic Hyundai si the WORST..

Updated by user Dec 03, 2013

Russell Ratuszny was not at fault for what happened with Atlantic Hyundai. It was the finance manager and I fully recommend Russell Ratuszny to anyone looking to make a purchase.

Original review Feb 21, 2012

Atlantic Hyundai is the worst dealer out there. My credit scores are around 600-610, so I was very happy when I was at the dealership for 4 hours finalizing my Lease for a 2012 Sonata for $330 a month with $2500 down using my trade-in. They told me everything was approved and that I would be able to go home with the car. After waiting 4 hours, they told me that the car will be ready the next day. I spoke to my sales guy 5 times during the day and everytime he told me everything was approved, even left me a message saying everything is approved. When I arrived at the dealership to sit with the finance manager (Bryan Harris) he told me that the lease was not approved (jaw drops) and that the financing of the car was approved for a WHOPPING $479 a month. When I said this is outrageous and why wasn't I told this the 5 times I spoke to my (Russell Ratuszny) sales guy, they had no answer. When I said I can't do this deal and would like my $500 deposit back, the sales manager (Bryan Harris) became very rude and even threatened me saying "What if I don't give you your money back" and that it could take a few hours for the refund. When I said fine, I will call my credit card company and dispute the charges and while I was on the phone, they finally processed my refund and still tried to get me to make a deal.

When I complained to the Sales Manager (Christopher Mooney) all he did was talk to the sales guy and never bothered to talk to me at all.

Beware of this dealership, they will say and do anything initially and then try to force a deal on you that make no sense at all.

Thanks to the General Manager and sales person Russell Ratuszny I am a very happy customer. Atlantic Hyundai stepped up and honored their contract, no thanks to the finance person I dealt with.

I will def. reccomend this dealership.
