Verified Reviewer |Unprofessional and unethical issues with Athens workers compensation
In October 2023, I endured a multiple attack by a student who had a history of attacking staff and kids. These attacks lasted almost 2 hours, and by protecting the other staff and kids from this student, I ended up being the only person attempting to de-escalate the situation, which resulted in further injury. I reported the situation and ended up going on leave from work due to the severity of the injuries. This is when I was assigned an agent who then explained to me that we would attempt various interventions to help with the injuries and pain associated with it, and if they ended up not working, we would move to receiving an epidural and then discuss surgery. This guy sent me out to PT, massage, acupuncture, and even a nerve test, which all showed significant injuries, and every professional requested the epidural for me, which they felt would be something that could help more because the relief I got from these interventions was very little. I had to go to a horrible workers' comp doctor who was so young and had little to no experience with my situation and injuries, but he kept telling me what I was supposed to feel and never cared about how I was actually feeling. I ended up in this never-ending circle of not being helped by Athens because the doctors were just going through the motions and not helping me or supporting me in any way. The agent was just sending me out to beef up our reports to request an epidural, which has been denied since 2023 and is still being denied today. In my opinion, it is such a scam that the same company sends you out through several hoops in the front end just to deny any request on the back end of things.
Now Athens' mission is to provide peace of mind and to focus on delivering superior service and building strong relationships with their clients. On the website, Athens states... Our approach is to partner with our clients to provide service that translates into lasting benefits. Through innovative methods and technologies, we bring solutions to life in ways that save our clients time, effort, and money.

Discover the Athens difference. So I have not seen or discovered this Athens difference. I have not been partnered with to experience such lasting benefits. I was just dishonestly treated by this Athens agent who continued to not help me with my situation. The agent would just give me lip service and excuses and say they would look into it while I continued to hurt, be in extreme pain, and not be able to work or have any income. The school district doesn't pay into workers' compensation, and disability cannot help me either because of this. So during my leave of absence, the school district attempted to create an accommodation meeting where they offered me to sit in a chair in a classroom that had several students who had severe social/emotional behavioral issues and who would attack staff. Sitting me in a chair would make me a sitting target, and I explained this situation to this agent who ignored me and the severity of the behaviors. The school also said they could get an extra person for the classroom, but there was no extra staff; we were understaffed, the district was understaffed, and the teachers and parents complained about this district-wide issue of not having enough staff to support the kids, which was also on the news and in published articles. But this agent jumped on these accommodations without any discussions or explanations because at that point, Athens would not have to pay out anything, which was a win-win situation for the district and this agent of Athens who now gets to sit with a lawyer and take no accountability for any of their actions or Athens' actions. I am currently in severe pain; I cannot work or make income, I have kids and no way to support them, pay rent, or pay bills, and Athens does nothing to help me or my situation, and I am their client. I think Athens states that we win as a team, and there is no teamwork here. In my opinion, Athens does not want to pay out, does not want to really help people if it costs them money, and they will do whatever it takes to not pay out anything and rip off their own clients. I guess that is what they refer to as the Athens difference! In my opinion, Athens does not want to help you out and follow their own mission statements, and it puts normal people like me with families in terrible positions because they want to save a buck. Please do yourself a favor and take the time to really research the type of insurance you need and don't buy into the commercials or what they write down as mission statements because I am currently living through this strong client relationship they claim to have.
- Non supportive
- Unprofessional
- Dishonesty
Preferred solution: I would like Athens to be ethical and follow professional standards for once in my situation and actually help the client they supposivley are supposed to help.
User's recommendation: In my opinion Athens is not about building strong client relationships so take the time to find a company that actual values their customers
Stall Techniques
My son was rear ended by one of there insured with witnesses over 7 weeks ago.Even better (we thought) their insured admitted fault on video and to a CHP officer and they are still investigating??Worse yet
the adjuster calls and lies and finally states they will pay when they "have time".Also it may take months as we are not a priority at this time.So now we are seeking to file insurance fraud charges as we have no vehicle for work and they told us they dont care because their job is not to pay but to wait.We have tried to resolve this issue but they only
return calls 7-10 days after contact. One job has been lost as we cant
afford to continue to rent a vehicle and the job was more than 25
miles from home.
