Does not protect customers

Note: Bank is GreenFi, formerly known as Aspiration, with banking services provided by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC. 4551 Glencoe Ave, Ste 300, Marina del Rey, CA 90292.

Complaint: On June 12, 2025, I submitted a billing dispute to Coastal Community Bank regarding five charges for Bitcoin that I purchased from a merchant that were never received/never deposited into my Bitcoin wallet. I was asked for more specifics by the bank, which I provided, including screenshots of my Bitcoin wallet showing that the purchases were never fulfilled by the merchant. On June 24, 2025, I was informed by the bank that the merchant is contesting my claims and they would therefore be sending the case to pre-arbitration. On July 1, 2025, the bank issued credits to me for the disputed charges then immediately reversed those credits, telling me they had closed the dispute in favor of the merchant, without following through with arbitration.

Though these disputed charges are all related to purchases made online with my debit card, the bank is claiming that the disputes do not fall under Regulation E due to the 'nature of my claims' against the merchant, even though Regulation E includes the definition of electronic fund transfers as purchases made with a debit card. I have provided proof to the bank to support my claims.

Company is very fraudulent, they claim to want to help the environment but its all lies. They will close your account for ZERO reason and hold your money for who knows how long.

Cant believe this so called bank is even in business and the customer service is literally useless, talking to these idiots is a waste of time! Would NOT recommend anyone use this service or whatever you wanna call this institution, I personally plan on seeking legal action against them honestly.

Closed Account - No Reason or Timeline

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had an Aspiration Spend & Save as well as the Redwood fund for just over a year. I tried to pay rent on my new place early morning and received an email later at night that my account was closed as it no longer met account guidelines.

Nothing changed other than trying to pay rent. My past two paychecks and a year of savings is now frozen indefinitely, some people have reported their money being held for up to 11 months. The AspirationBank subreddit is filled with these (lots having to do with PPP loans, which was not my case). Its been about 2-3 weeks for my case, zero communication.

Their products arent even sustainable, after this whole ordeal, I read that they invest in airlines?

And tree planting initiatives are overall unhelpful too. This firm is greenwashing at best sadly, I had higher hopes.

Overall, they need to be FDIC insured. I reported to FINRA, the SEC, and others, and will continue looking into how I can report. Im entirely financially dependent on my partner right now, which is a really dangerous place for a young woman to be, regardless.

People are being continuously harmed by Aspirations negligence.

If youre not a bank account, dont have your primary function serve as that.

Become FDIC insured, contact your customers before account closures, give clear communications and timelines, and only hold the money that needs investigated hostage, and I might consider a two-star. This firm is a nightmare, Im surprised it hasnt already been shut down.

On Sept. 24 , 2021 I opened a checking account with Aspiration with a $10 deposit drawn on my Charles Schwab checking account with in order to obtain its advertised $200.

bonus. Nothing was heard form Aspiration and I forgot about it until Aspiration on January 4, 2022, without authorization, withdrew $200. from my Charles Schwab account. I did not recognize the name Aspiration.

I called Aspiration twice and was told they would return my calls, but they did not. I emailed Aspiration and found that my account was blocked I again called Aspiration and was told that they could not find my account, that they could not help me and that I should file a fraud claim with Charles Schwab.Avoid

Locked my account

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My bank account was locked after I received my much first much needed EIDL Advance and before I could receive the second bigger EIDL Advance that should be in my account right now. I contacted them a month ago to let them know ahead of time about the deposits coming from the SBA and they told me that any deposits from the SBA would be returned and my account would be closed.

I informed them that as a gig worker, my business name is the same as my legal name and that my account has already accepted business deposits and personal deposits. They replied that they understood where I was coming from but advised me to get my deposits sent to another bank. The following day was November 10, 2021 and that's when I made my first attempt at changing my banking info with the SBA. 9 attempts later on December 1, 2021, the SBA finally was officially in possession of everything they said they needed to change my bank account info.

December 2, 2021 I was approved for both EIDL Advances. The first deposit was sent from the SBA on December 6, 2021 and on December 7, 2021, 6 days after the SBA had all my new bank info securely uploaded to them, they deposited my money in my Aspiration account anyway.

I want my account immediately unlocked and I want access to the all my funding right now pleas. Thank you.
