My health insurance is very substandard and they recommend Ascension. Actually, Ascension is the only place I can go with my insurance. I had to have surgery and had to go to a different city for the procedure! The customer service is the only decent thing about the place. Provider and staff do not listen well nor get back to you quickly with results. You are left to feel like you and your health don't matter. I can't wait to switch insurance, so I can go anywhere but Ascension.

$4,000+ Code Review Request Denied
Nightmare started Feb 28, 2020 when I experienced 102.5 fever, confusion, emesis. Went to Ascension Urgent Care, Wauwatosa, WI & was diagnosed with Type A Influenza. Covid-19 had just come on scene. March 30, 2020 went to Ascension Elmbrook Hospital ER, Brookfield WI with chest pressure. Diagnosed with pneumonia & was coded Z20.828 (contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases). Because of this coding, was covered by my insurance. July 8, 2020 went to Ascension Elmbrook Hospital ER with chest pain & vomiting. Diagnosed with esophagitis. Prior to going to ER, called Ascension Medical Group, my primary care provider, & begged to be seen there. Admonished for calling & told to go to ER. Told ER dr. that I hadn't felt well since Feb & felt it was Covid-related. Asked to be tested for Covid each time, but was told they didn't have enough tests, that my symptoms weren't "typical" Covid symptoms, that tests weren't reliable & that if I had been infected, that the antibodies might not still be in my system. $4,000+ later, for July 8th visit, denied by insurance. Appealed & told to have provider do code review. Started process Sept. 4, 2020 with multiple letters & calls. Finally received denial from Ascension stating "there was no definitive evidence that I had Covid, that it was possible that my symptoms are an unusual manifestation of long term sequelae of Covid, given that it is a novel disease." Doesn't the fact that the March 30th visit was coded "contact with and suspected exposure to other viral communicable diseases" show that I had Covid? I am a Covid-19 "long hauler". We are people who are still experiencing long term side effects of Covid months later. There are many support groups on Facebook & many news articles relating to "long haulers". It is very real & debilitating. As stated by "long haulers", it is bad enough to be infected with Covid, but worse not to be believed. Ascension's motto is "We are advocates for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words." This is so untrue! All they care about is the almighty dollar. There is no compassion in their organization as evidenced by their denial & that so many good physicians, including my PCP, have left Ascension.

First, I am not “pissed”, at least not yet. I try not to use such crude language but might make an exception with yelp. You might think I am john b. from Laredo texas, but I have never lived in Laredo nor have I ever lived in Detroit although I have spent time in both places. Your confusion might possibly be due to the fact that my computer was not originally purchased in my name. FYI, I am contacting you from somewhere south of the equator. You should know that I have personally visited every place which I have evaluated and you will find both good and bad evaluations from me. I want to know why yelp keeps deleting my comments about Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI. Be specific, since my facts are incontrovertible. My opinions are mine and I try to make it clear which are facts and which are opinions. I might possibly be mistaken, but it appears that someone somewhere might be trying to suppress my warnings regarding this hospital. Note that I have made derogatory evaluations about other places but this Ascension place is the only one that has my comments deleted, so far. My derogatory comments are meant to be constructive criticism and I invite the places involved to contact me. Your timely cooperation shall be appreciated and my sincere apologies if I have unintentionally offended anyone at Yelp.
