Denise Aroma Coffee and Tea Shop, Dinnington - 50p for a glass of tap water!

AI Highlights
  • Charged 50p for a glass of tap water with a latte.
  • The reviewer won't return and learned tap water charging is illegal for licensed premises.

I'd used Denise Aroma Coffee and Tea Shop several times before (good coffee and pots of tea) when I went in on a very hot day recently. I asked for a latte and a glass of tap water.

I was told the tap water was an extra 50p a glass! I was utterly amazed - particularly having asked in countless places before without being charged.

Needless to say, I won't be going in again. It's a shame that an otherwise good coffee shop can be spoilt by such poor customer relations.

I just thought it was mean, and mean-spirited - but I've since discovered that, as licensed premises, it was illegal to charge for tap water.

Aroma Coffee & Tea Shop - 50p for a glass of tap water!

AI Highlights
  • Charged 50p for tap water with a latte; owner cited water charges.
  • I won't be returning.
  • Tap-water charging in licensed premises is illegal.

I'd used Aroma Coffee & Tea Shop several times (good coffee & tea) before going in on a very hot day a few weeks ago.

I asked for a latte and a glass of tap water (because of the mid-day heat). I was told the tap water would be an extra 50p! I was utterly amazed, particularly having made similar requests in countless places before - and happily been served - without being asked for any payment. The proprietor said she'd introduced the charge because of requests for water from non-paying customers, and because she had to pay water charges.

Needless to say, I left - and won't be returning. It just seemed so mean, and mean-spirited.

I've since discovered that it has, for some time, been illegal to charge for tap water in licensed premises, which the Aroma is.
