Dissatisfied consumert

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have been a high option member since 2014 but I have never been so dissatisfied. I recently suffered severe sciatica and dr ordered an MRI.

I was in so much pain, could hardly walk and lost sensation in my left leg. I even fell and hit my head on the ground because my leg gave out on me. But my MRI was denied because they wanted me to have 6 weeks of conventional therapy before they approved the MRI. I was in so much pain and scared that I paid for my own MRI.

It showed I had 2 herniated discs and 3 bulging discs. Now my dr wants me to have an epidural and then PT. I am praying they approve it.

I will be reconsidering signing up with APWU in the new year. Very, very disappointed.

Not good if you're sick or old

This is not a bad plan if you want to save premiums and are healthy. Plus they give you 2400 bucks in an HSA.

Could be risky it you get cancer or need surgery.

But BCBS standard denies claims also. You'll need to save a few thousand in case they don't pay the claims.

Horrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This insurance company is exactly what’s wrong with our health care system. A company that cares nothing about its members, drags its feet every step of the way, and mishandles EVERYTHING!!! 7 months after submitting a claim I need to wait another 30 days because they incompetently sent the check to the provider instead of me and they don’t care!

APWU - Medical Claim Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My daughter flu shot is covered 100% APWU denied claim and said we have to pay for her shots. Spent two months trying to resolve this issue and they still will not approve for her flu and.

Oensaid we are responsible to pay 22.00 once again it's suppose to be covered 100%.

Gave up we will pay the 22.00 it's. It a hardship but what other times will they incorrectly make us pay for why they suppose to cover never again will we sign up with their insurance will stick with blue shield

last week i something happened to my shoulder.i am in acute pain and sah a sports medicine doctor.he concluded that it is a possible tear in the rotator cuff.i can not move or lift my arm and i am in a lot of pain.the doctor issued a m r i,to ensure the correct treatment.awpu declined the m r i ,because i have not had treatment for my shoulder for thwelfe consecutive weeks.well sorry this just happened last week and treatment without conclusion on what to treat for can cause more demage. we joined awpu this year and all we get is no coverage.this is not a good insurance.there first response is always to flat out deny coverage and have you fight and eventualy give up,so they dont have to pay.

This insurance is administered by United Healthcare. Their philosophy is deny all claims if possible and make customers appeal. They think 50% or more won't appeal.

Will not help find an orthopedic surgeon in network

Some of the items offered by this plan work, but you never know whats covered and what is not. I need outpatient surgery for my neck, bone spurs that pinch my nerve.

In depth queries of this type cannot be found with their query options. Calling customer service had the girl on the other end performing the same actions.

She recommended that I call every orthopeditist that came up in their system to find one who performed these types of surgeries or call local hospitals until I find one with this type of surgeon, then cross that back to their database to see if he/she was in network.

DO NOT USE THIS JOKE OF AN INSURANCE

We chose this insurance because of maternity care. However, my wife experienced a miscarriage.

The insurance stated they did not cover the procedure. The medical term for miscarriage is "missed abortion" and the insurance company said they don't cover abortions. Letters from Doctors and the hospital did not help. The company would not listen to our concerns of how we were not notified of the issue.

One operator even told my wife "there must be something wrong with your body". They are a complete joke and not worth your money.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS or trust me, it will really cost you.

Knee Surgery

I have now been denied two different knee surgeries to relive my pain. I have no cartilage left in a certain spot on my knee and they will not cover any type of procedure because I have not documented my pain for the last year.

I have had 3 other scopes done on this knee and needless to say I am never not in pain.

So because I choose to deal with the pain and not run to my doctor every other day they will not cover my surgery. It is almost like they would rather me become addicted to pain pills rather then just fix the problem.

I have been on a waiting list for 6 mo. I was diagnosed over a year ago and in desperate need of a double knee replacement .

I keep complaining they keep giving me more pain meds . I've emailed my doctor several times complaining of my pain and the loss of work . It has become completely debilitating for me . Now my hips are hurting .

I can't sleep at night let alone struggle at work . I'm so depressed and feel helpless .

Beware - choose another insurance company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I called prior to switching to UHC to see if a specific drug was covered. I was told it was and given the copay amounts.

I switched to UHC only to find out that drug is not covered. When I called and gave them the name of the person I spoke with I was told they were sorry but there were possibly 3 different places my call could have been answered so they had no way of knowing who that person was.

That was it - nothing else - no compassion and no resolution. I will definitely be switching insurance companies to one I can trust during open season!

APWU - The Ultimate Bait and Switch

On their public facing website the provide an example of their Type II Diabetes Coverage, which reflects an out of pocket cost og $0.0 for members. that is not true,

They claim they cover test strips - they charge me $80+ dollars for 100, at 3 per day 33days worth.

The do not cover the entire blood work- so again the patient is stuck.

For many drugs i go off network because it is less expensive than through their pharmacy company (Medco). Truth in advertising is not the case with APWU! So buyers beware and look to consumer websites for feedback.

You have to register separately for the Diabetes Management Plan. Then they cover as they state in the advertisements. Call the number on the back of your card and ask how to enroll in managed care.

They claim they cover 100% of lab test if done by quest. Went for test for joint pain and ended up with a $450.00 bill for $600.00 in lab test.

APWU Health paid $26.00.

THEY SUCK!!!! I am switching to blue cross come open season
