Avoid - upset, no repairs

The company advertised a $80 service call to review and diagnose repair problem with our microwave unit. Upon arrival, and before even looking inside the unit to investigate, we were told we needed to pay $260 (+HST) to get a full diagnoses. After agreeing to this, and after he opened machine, the service man claimed we needed a replacement part, which he did not have and indicated it would cost an additional $50-$70 for replacement part. He promised to call within 48 hours. No return call was made. We repeatedly called and did not get an answer, finally after 5 days, we were told a voice mail was left with part quotation - no voice mail was left. Over the phone, the company said they did get a price for the part of $370+HST. Given we had already spent nearly $300 on a 'diagnoses', we rejected the cost of the part as this would have made the total cost of repairs over $600.00, more than the cost of replacing the unit with a new one. We think this companies practise of promising a $80 service call, and then demanding the customer sign to pay $260+HST before the technician even opens the appliance is a scam of up-selling and is not good business practise. We don't expect to get our money back as we were foolish in believe we could get this repaired for under $400.00. However, we want to make the BBB and general public aware of this shady business praises of this company so that others will not fall victim to the same scam.

Never "Appliance repair guys"!!!! Rip off!

Called Appliance Repair Guys to check my dishwasher which was leaking foamy water during wash. According to their website, it was $80.00 for service call. They came turned my machine on.. Asked me to sign a quote for repairs for $ 280.00 . I asked how he knew what the problem was, his answer was..."that's their repair fee and parts are extra" It turned out that there was NOTHING wrong with the dishwasher. The leak was caused because I forgot to take out my pre filled dishwashing brush. After 15 minutes and no repairs I was charge $ 299.45 with Taxes!! This company's definition of service call is showing up at your door. And doing diagnosis on the appliance is repairing! Don't fall for this scamming company like I did! Their 5 star reviews on their website is suspect, since their is no way to write a review on their website!

Your fault. Why are you complaining?

They came out per your request. What do you expect them to do---come out for free? You sound like a democrat, wanting everything for free.

Time to take responsibility for your actions. This is not rocket science.

Appliance Repair Guys are Criminals

On November 10 2015 a repair technician by the name of 'Matt" from "Appliance Repair Guys" came out to our disabled 84 year old mother's house. Her Maytag washing machine had stopped working. A Neighbor found 'Appliance Repair Guys' on the internet and called them on behalf of our mother to come in and see if the machine could be repaired. As our mother is unable to go down the stairs and oversee the repairs she relied on faith that the technician and company would be honest and forthright with the evaluation and subsequent repair. She was told the washing machine could be repaired and would also come with a warranty on the repair. The repair technician serviced the timer and motor on his 11/30/2015 visit and also was going to order a belt replacement which he would come back and install (it took 3 weeks for him to return to 'complete' the repair). The total charge was $584.21. Mom paid $450.30 for the service performed to the timer and motor on 11/30/2015. On December 23rd 2015 the same service technician 'Matt' returned to install the belt and charged $133.90 and left hastily without showing mother the receipt he left on the table. He left without saying goodbye ......mother was not given the opportunity to discuss anything. When her caregiver showed her the receipt there was a note saying that 'The motor is becoming weak' and that she would have to pay $254.86 to have it replaced. When her caregiver went downstairs to do a load the washing machine was not functioning at all. Her neighbor came in along with several other people and confirmed it was not working. It would fill with water and a humming noise was heard from the bottom of the machine. The machine was unplugged and the water was drained manually to avoid any electrical/fire hazard. Our mother was very upset that after being told her machine could be fixed and then subsequently being told it would cost another $254.86 to have it 'repaired' after it was supposed to already been fixed. She was not willing to pay a total of $839.07. She felt cheated and taken advantage of. On December 28th The telephone number for the company 1-87*-723-**** was called and a lady by the name of 'Ilona' answered the phone. At first she was very pleasant, however as soon as she was informed that there was an issue with a repair she became very hostile and rude before even knowing what the call was about. After being told to get the information in front of her....he said she was looking at the receipts and that they now needed to send a technician out for an additional 254.86 for the machine to be repaired. She further stated that this amount would be a favor as it was a 'discounted amount'. When she was informed that this was unacceptable customer service she said they would not be willing to do anything else including return any portion of monies paid. At this point she was asked for a manager...incredibly she claimed that we were calling a "call center" and she could not do anything about it. I asked her where the call center was located and she said she 'could not provide that information'. When the legitimacy of her statement of it being a call center was questioned she was she said that any information should be sent to a P.O. Box 20083 **** Dufferin Street Toronto, Ontario L4K-OC6. When asked for a manager to come to the phone she refused. When asked what her last name was then hung up the phone. This company is clearly operating in a dishonest and deceitful manner. Furthermore this is an example of a company who will advantage of those who are elderly and disabled and cannot fend for themselves.
