Not sure what I can say that the other 800 upset 'customers' haven't already expressed. But I'll try.
I have found myself in need of a gas leak test as Excel was out and, after fixing their leaking equipment without performing any further testing, declared that I must get a licensed individual to certify that my home was leak-free. I was a bit shocked but okay. I called Applewood and spoke to a fantastic lady that offered to complete a leak test, and if anything was found, we would discuss next steps. They could even be over just after lunch the very next day.
I made arrangements to have the technician meet at my home as I am currently out of town. It went downhill the next day. They missed the start of the one to three o'clock appointment. I did, however, get a call around 2 explaining that they were behind and maybe arriving at 3 or 4.
Since I had placed my trust and can understand that nothing goes according to schedule, I waited. Around 4 pm their person said that he could help but he would need $1300. I was outraged. A leak test takes 10 minutes tops to perform.
This would be the industry-accepted practice to determine if there is a problem and if so, how severe. I asked this professional if he had performed a leak test and he responded no. He claimed that this was at least a two-day problem and he would need to pull a permit to perform repairs. He then started listing all the many things my two-appliance 30-foot pipe system needs replaced.
He made that assertion without testing. He stated he just knew that everything was going to fail. I just thank God that I wasn't someone's grandparent in a freezing home with nowhere else to turn. He said some rather profane things in response to my reaction.
I stopped and asked him what I owed him. He took my credit card info and departed. I called Applewood, mighty angry. Again, the lady who answered the phone deserves some praise.
I can only imagine what her day must be like. I asked to speak to Joe the plumber’s manager. I was informed that I would receive a call back in up to three business days. I hung up as I was too charged up to speak to anyone at that moment.
I called back after taking deep breaths and apologized to the service rep for my earlier outburst. I explained that I was looking for what was promised and that I would like to speak to a manager. I did promise this review if I had to wait three days. I got my callback tonight.
That was an intriguing conversation. It went on for a very long time. To summarize - and yes, I'm paraphrasing – 'Applewood has been in business for over 50 years and always behaves ethically and responsibly. I'm sorry our representative promised something we can't deliver.
We train our people to the highest standard but phone representatives should not be discussing services as they just don’t know about it. She then doubled down on the $1300 but apologized for the way their professional behaved.
She was not inclined to offer the services we agreed upon, nor was she able to reimburse me for my wasted day. Besides, I had already made arrangements for the testing to be performed.' If you're still here with me after all that, it is my recommendation to call anyone else, at any price, instead of the professionals at Applewood.

Unfair pricing
We were charged $600 plus $198 for some club membership to replace a capacitor in our ac unit. We gave the written consent too soon for the replacement without verifying the charges.
I checked later that the capacitor cost was about $100 online and it took the technician less than 40 mins to install. The whole thing shouldn't have cost us more than $200.
We feel robbed and regret signing for the service. I don't understand how this company had good ratings online, we shouldn't have trusted them.
User's recommendation: Don't use Applewood Plumbing Heating and Electric. If you must, do not consent without checking the pricing.

I have to share something that happened yesterday, we woke up to a 63 degree house. Not knowing the first thing about high efficiency furnaces I called Applewood plumbing and heating, their tech showed up about 9:00am and we went down to the basement to check out the furnace.
He removed the front cover and started poking and prodding around then told me that the air induction fan had failed, I asked him what it would cost to fix it and he quoted me a price of $1600 dollars because that was a really expensive part, he then took out his flashlight looked a the furnace for a minute and told me that the heat exchanger appeared cracked. I told him that I intended to call Sears for a second opinion, he got real rude attitude and said What do you expect them to do, pull the Sears ambulance up to your front door and heal the furnace at this point I showed him the front door and gave him a check for $29. After he left I went on line and found the exact same fan on Amazon for $145, I did have Sears come over, I did not tell him what Applewood had done to start with he checked the furnace out and said the fan had failed and the repair cost would run approximately $500. I then told him about Applewood and that their tech said the heat exchanger was cracked, he looked at it and said that he was nuts and even if it were cracked that part has a twenty year warranty through Sears since they installed it 10 years ago.
After he left we tried to find a fan locally and ended up having it overnighted. The fan took me less than 30 minutes to install for a total cost of $268.
The more I have thought about what Applewood tried to pull the more upset I get, I have to wonder how many hard working people these jerks swindle and cheat every day and any company that would pray upon our seniors ( which I hear Im part of these days) should be ran out of business. So to all my friends and family out there steer clear of this pond *** thats pretending to be a legitimate company.

about 25 dollars worth of new pipes under a clogged bathroom sink. Used a 75 foot roto rooter and an hour later $591 bill.
No reflection on Omar who was a nice guy. Pricing was OUTRAGEOUS.

Thermostat control
My thermostat was in a constant run mode and I could not turn off the heat. It had been running all night and the controls were stuck.
I called for service (it was A SATURDAY) and I was told someone could be out on monday. I said I had purchased their "GOLD PLAN" which included priority service. She said to me very rude "at least you have heat" We,re helping others who dont have heat. It was to be 70 degrees for the next several days!!!
I said "So much for purchasing your gold plan." No customer service at all.
I used your services several time. NEVER AGAIN!

Triple Prices
CEO John Ward, I wanted to inquire about the very high price I paid for the Plumbing work at my home. I’m a retired Contractor five year’s to date.
General Contractor 40 year’s. I have never over charged my Customer’s and always had repeat satisfied customer’s. Alex Todorov was very professional and did an excellent Job. The Main street valve going out to the street would not shut water completely off.
He replaced the valve by cutting off the old 1” copper pipe installed new Ball Valve. ½ Hour charged $ 557.46 Copper pipe + Ball Valve let’s just say material 57.46 Don’t you think 1,000.00 an Hour is ridiculous ? I needed my tub faucet’s replaced. I cut the ceramic tile eight pieces and drywall out so when he arrived he would be able to start working right away.
As it was 6:00 P.M. He also said he would have cut a round circle in the tile for the round excusion trim plate. He also said that would cost $300.00 ( really ). He charged us $1,532.00 ( Material Cost Delta Faucet around $160.00 plus copper pipe Material Cost $232.00.
He worked from 7:00 P.M. till 10:00 P.M. 3 Hr.’s. $500.00 an Hour !
3 ½ Hour’s Labor at $ 2,000.00 approximately $571.00 an Hour. I wish I could have charged that much an hour when I was working. Alex talked me into an additional $ 198.00 membership to save a whopping 15%. One year ago we called out your Technician to fix our Furnace did an excellent Job and a reasonable price.
That is why we thought we could trust your Company again. I understand your Technicians work on a commission base only? Do you really condone your Technicians to charge these High Triple Price’s ? I hope you can adjust our Bill down to a reasonable cost.
I would like a refund. I wanted to make you aware of what is being charged to your Customer’s so your Technicians can make a higher profit ! I will wait for your reply and hopefully a reasonable refund. Other Wise I will Contact the Colorado Attorney General, BBB, 2.4.7.9.
News, Linked, Yelp, VFW, Senior Center, I will send CC of this e-mail. I hope this can be avoided. Sincerely, Mr. & Mrs.
Ray Abbott Ray Tom I can't believe you have Apple wood Plumbing on your referral list. I talked to Amy at Apple wood their so called Manager. Listened to her excuses why they charge a flat fee and so called (High caliber services) The Triple prices they charge. But she said we don't over charge customers.
She first offered 10% off then 20% off and I told her she was still over charging me but she wouldn't refund any more. The National average plumbers price per Hr. is $278.00 They charge well over $570.00 an hour. Ray and still they are on your referral list.
Check out Yelp, Pissed Consumer, Angis List, Ripoff Report, Bird Eye, City Grid, City Search has alot of pissed off customers. How long will this Company going to rip people off! Especially (Senior's like My Wife and I ?
) When I get done with the Colorado Attorney General we will find out after I give results to the New's media. 10:48AM Ray 10:48AM Ray 10:48AM Ray

Way overpriced because they work on comission
Quoted $3200 to replace hot water heater and $1000 more if needed to create air vent . 3 other companies in denver area quoted half that.
$400 toilet wax ring replacement still leaks
Applewood plumbing sent a plumber out to fix a leak by replacing a wax ring for $400.00. Out of the two hours the plumber was there, 45 minutes was used for high pressure sales for an insurance policy.
I guess they felt very generous by applying a $29 coupon. Gee thanks! The lesson learned here is always look for online reviews before hiring any service company. Hopefully they will get back to correct the leak for the second time as I wait all day for them.
They do state that they do cover all repairs for two years.
The company website claims that they donate to charitable organizations. I guess that is a redeeming gesture!

Abusive employees
I'm not sure if this company is the worst plumbing company I've ever encountered or just the worst company overall. My wife was treated abusively by 3 different employees of Applewood both in person and via telephone.
They insulted her, treated her very poorly and I honestly am still in bit of shock over the whole ordeal. How do I know that my wife wasn't just being overly sensitive? Because she was thorough enough to record all of the conversations/encounters for our records. I have listened (with s great deal of distress) to each one of these occasions along with a colleague at the BBB.
Not only were the employees verbally demeaning, but then a manager proceeded to blame my wife for their behavior, defend their behavior and condone their behavior. I care very little about the work that needs to be done in comparison to how I feel about the astonishing degree of mistreatment. Putting aside that my wife is a mother, a professional and a potential customer, first and foremost she is a person - and was treated less than. I am not in agreement with the phrase that the "customer is always right", but the customer should, at the very least, be treated with respect and kindness.
No, we won't be using them..now or ever.
No, we will not recommend them to anyone-ever, but yes, we will be in contact again as this was such deplorable behavior that we feel compelled to take action in order to save others from making the mistake of ever reaching out to them for any reason whatsoever. They should be incredibly ashamed of themselves - as a company and as individuals and we will be taking steps to make this widely known.
Complete ripoff
Caveat empor - Buyer beware. Applewood plumbing is nothing more than a wolf in sheeps clothing. The charge by "Flat rate or book pricing". This translates into YOU PAYING $300-500+ per hour. FOR A PLUMBER.
They will not break down the bid and separate the labor from the materials. They can claim that this provides for no surprises and that customers prefer to know the complete price upfront. OK...
Here was my experience. We have a vacation rental where the hot water boiler went out and we needed a plumber now. The bottom line- they tried to charge us $650 an hour for the work. I was charged $8200 for 8 hours of work. ( With $3000 of parts)
I demanded a complete parts list which the plumber reluctantly provided. After he left I Googled "Munchkin boiler" and proceeded to price the parts. Any full retail plus 20% ( Which is a normal upcharge for supplying parts) I was able to price the parts at $3000. The supplier would not tell me what Applewood would have paid, except to offer up - less. $1500 to $2000 is a solid number for these parts at dealer prices.
I proceeded to talk to the customer service rep at Applewood and express my displeasure of being charged $650 an hour for a plumber. I am a business owner myself and know my way around customer service amd negotiations.
After promising them that I would have my intern plaster the web with bad reviews and report them to the BBB, they agreed to reduce the bill to $4200. I still paid $150 an hour for A PLUMBER.
The bottom line is - If you want to pay $300-$500 an hour for a plumber, Applewood is your guy. Their men will show up in a crisp white shirt and a big smile. They will run slick TV and web ads showing women and senior citizens feeling "safe" and "trusting" Applewood.
The only thing I can say is - Babaganoush. These guys will charge you $50 bucks to screw in a lightbulb. Don't be fooled. Or, ripped off. When calling for a plumber ask If they charge by the book ( Flat rate) or, by the hour. If by the book, hang up.
Applewood is nothing short of a complete ripoff. The tried to charge me $650 an hour for labor. Wouldn't you agree?
Rip off
Wanted $800.00 for a job that 2 other companies quoted for less than $200.00. Was told by applewood employee that the other companies sucked and did not stand behind their work.
Applewood bids their jobs exorbitantly because they work on commission. The more they can rip you off, the more the tech makes. Then the tech was not paying attention to his work and flooded my floor an water ran under the new laminate flooring.
His answer to that was "I'm sorry about that, but, it's only water. It will dry." I wound up replacing the floor 2weeks later at a cost $1400.00.
ELDER FRAUD
FRAUD ALERT! I wish I could give negative stars...
I am a Realtor with a large firm in the Metro area. I just helped an elderly client use her "bad drug" settlement which gave her cancer to purchase a home in Aurora. There were some items that needed to be addressed in this home, but nothing major, and we were compensated from the seller to address these items after closing.
Now comes Applewood...Unbeknownst to me my client called this company and began hemorrhaging the rest of her cancer settlement money to these crooks. First they charged her nearly $4000 for a hot water heater. After seeing an opening, I imagine, they quoted her $11,000 for a new air conditioner compressor (not including furnace or anything else) and $11,000 for a replacement electrical panel to replace an old Federal Pacific Stab Lock panel (meanwhile there is a brand new square d panel on the back of the house they could have used)....as soon as I heard this I told her to call them at once and tell them to stop all work and to also call her bank and stop payment on these checks.
THESE CROOKS SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO STEAL FROM AN ELDERLY CANCER SURVIVOR AND TAKE EVERY LAST BIT OF HER SETTLEMENT MONEY FOR THEIR OWN GAIN.
They will not hear the end of this from me until they are blasted on air from every investigative journalist in the city. WHAT THEY HAVE DONE IS WRONG, and I will not stand for it.

Rip Off
Would NEVER recommend this Company. They came for a service call on Saturday to evaluate my furnace problem, told me it was the infuser and that it was a very expensive part for my particular furnace ...
quoted me $1,200 to $1,300 to do the repair. I was shocked and paid the trip charge ($29) and told them I would get some other quotes before making a decision. I decided to first check out the actual price of the part for my model number and was quoted $248 plus a $16 shipping charge. This told me that Applewood was going to be charging approx.
$500 per hour for labor.
I checked with several other HVAC companies, all of which were less than Applewood and settled on one that is only charging me $560 total, waived the trip charge and this includes driving round trip to pick up the part. If you have money to throw away, by all means use Applewood!!!
Highest price quote of all. RIP OFF!!
In July we had five different companies give us quotes on replacing our 30 year old furnace and air conditioner. I will forever regret calling Applewood plumbing.
They charged nearly $300 to inspect our furnace. The technician told me that the heat exchanger was cracked. After he totaled the estimate, it came to $22,000, which included replacing the water heater. He said we need $5,000 in electrical upgrades, and $800 for a water mix valve (for people who do not know how to regulate water temperature at the faucet), and $1000 to add a cold air return in the kitchen.
I did the cold air return in the kitchen myself. $80 in material and two hours of work by myself. We hired Service Experts. They charged $13,000 to do all the work.
$500 for the electrical upgrades , and we got a 96 % efficient furnace that is a Lennox. Thank goodness for a honest company like Service Experts'n
Applewood plumbing: AKA price gougers
I called Applewood because I had heard good things to fix my AC. Long story short, the cost charged to insulate a pipe and replace 2 lbs.
of coolant was over $400!!! The worst part is that their "repair" still did not fix the problem! I had another company out afterward and they quoted a cost of 1/2 the price and fixed the issue that Applewood failed to do. Additionally, when I requested to speak to a manager at Applewood Plumbing to address the issue my calls were never returned.
Horrible pricing, repair service and customer service! I will NOT use them again.
