What an expensive piece of JUNK A.O. Smith's Promax electric water heater has been. We had a 50-gallon water heater installed by plumbers 3-1/2 yrs. ago, and it has already stopped working. It has supplied inconsistent water temperatures from Day One, constantly fluctuating from scalding to freezing. After my previous water heater failed after 31 years, I installed an A. O. Smith Promax gas water heater. The Promax started failing after 19 days. The pilot light went out. For the next seven months, the pilot continued to fail and I had to relight it. The pilot failed sometimes every few days, sometimes every day or sometimes four times a day.
