Awful Customer Service

AI Highlights
  • - Boarded my dog for 2 days; Bordetella vaccine missing.
  • - A $60 unexpected Bordetella visit was needed.
  • - Wellness checks not provided; kennel cough.

Used to board my Great Dane pup for 2 days. They never said I would need her vaccination records or what vaccinations she specifically needed, but because I like to be prepared I had brought her records with me just in case and come to find out I was missing the Bordetella vaccine which of course I was already rushing around and now I had to run and go get her another vaccine that I was not told about (which was another $60 unexpected visit).

Also I was told that it would cost $26.95 a day which included the food they serve, that was a lie it was an extra $3 each day for their food pulse another $1 a day for some type of pet insurance that wasn't mentioned anywhere. Another thing that was supposed to come with the $26.95 was a daily comprehensive wellness check each day which I also did not receive.

To top off this beyond terrible experience by pup now had kennel cough. I will never use this place nor would I recommend it under any condition.

Took my dog in early August, first time there for a groom. Six days later she has kennel cough.

I called them to report it and was told there is an epidemic in the metro and was assured they do everything they can to prevent it.

Vet says there is no epidemic. Very disappointed and will not return.

  • - Dropped off for spring break; bath promised for $23; baby came home with something on her rear and diarrhea; not sure to use again; shady.

We dropped off our baby here for spring break because our usual place was booked. We were told she would have a bath, which we paid $23 dollars for.

Her rear end was covered in *** when she got home, we gave her a real bath. Daughter picked her up and was afraid to complain. She came home with severe diahrea from the supposedly great food they serve.

Not sure will ever use them again. Seems like they are a bit shady.

Sounds like you have lower standards than most people if you are ok with your dog being sent home in this condition.

You should bring your own dog food to boarding. Switching dog food right away can cause diarrhea which is most likely what happened unless they do in fact carry what you currently feed your dog. If didn’t know then you know now.

AI Highlights
  • - Great service; Nicole is awesome.
  • - My dog comes home happy; I recommend them.
  • - First choice when I travel; they welcome all dogs, even aggressive ones.

I have no complaints or doubts about Ankeny Bark Avenue. They have great service and Nicole is awesome!

My dog always comes home happy and I recommend this place for any dog owner. Whenever I go out of town, this is the first place I go to. I have seen bad reviews about this doggy daycare but I think that's a scam! The service from all the employees exceeds my expectations.

If you live anywhere in the Des Moines metro area, I suggest using this place. They will take all dogs, even the aggressive ones!

Dogs that get turned away from other places are welcomed here, they get special treatment! 5 Stars!!!

Killed my dog

AI Highlights
  • - One dog died after a 9.5-day stay; the vet found she was fed 4 pennies causing toxicity.
  • - Staff did not call emergency contacts about the illness.

THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND SETTLED, AMICABLY BY BOTH PARTIES .

Updated by user Sep 22, 2013

At this point they still have not taken response ability for them having my dog for 91/2 days and not getting her help!

Updated by user Sep 03, 2013

I do not know how she got the pennies!

Updated by user Sep 03, 2013

I do know how Kiya got the pennies. All I do know.

Is none of the emergency

Numbers were called.

Or was she taken to her vet to get her help. Which could of saved her.

Original review Aug 30, 2013

I dropped my dogs off on the 3rd of July for a 10 day vacation stay with them.We decided to come.

Back from vacation after 9and half days later and 1 of our dogs was on deaths door. She was immediately taken to vet. And died 6 days in hospital later. The vet found she had been fed 4 pennies.

And died from the toxicity from them. My pet suffered unbelievably. From someone there feeding her...

Pennies. And not calling any of emergency contacts .

To tell us she was sick. If you love your pet!

Don't use this business .

I find this hard to believe. I have taken my dog to Ankeny Bark Avenue several times and have boarded him there also.

Two days after him being there, the staff called me to tell me he wasn't feeling well, asked if they could change his food etc... They all are very caring individuals.

I find it hard to believe they would feed him pennys. How do you know it was the staff and he didn't eat them at your house before you boarded him?

I am so sorry for your loss, my dog is my everything and I would go insane if I lost her, I hope you are doing ok.

last year my daughter fell on a wet concrete floor at work hitting the back of her head. THIS IS THE DAUGHTER WHO HAD THE BRAIN/SPINE SURGERY TWICE WHICH THE OWNER KNEW.

my daughter called me from work and asked if she could take Tylenol. she then explained that her manager told her to put a bag of frozen peas on her head as a cold pack IN FRONT OF THE OWNER and then could return to work. I, being not just her mom but a nurse said NO! and immediately took her to the doctor.

She had a concussion and was told to rest for the next few days. IT TOOK A YEAR FOR THEM TO PAY HER DR BILL, AND ONLY AFTER WE WERE BILLED and I called them to complain. Last week, my daughter was tripped by a large dog injuring her knee which she did report to a manager that day. At first it did not bother her much but after working long shifts the next two days she told management and the OWNER that her knee was bothering her.

the response? The OWNERS SISTER/MANAGER told her maybe she would need to go to walgreens and buy a brace! AGAIN!! WHAT???

NO INCIDENT REPORT DONE BECAUSE THAT'S TOO MUCH PAPERWORK??? After watching her hobble all weekend and complain of severe pain, I took her to urgent care. THEN WENT IN WITH HER TO TAKE HER DR NOTE employer. I STATED TO THE OWNER THAT I WAS A NURSE AND DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER KNEE, SO I FELT SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE DR BY THEM VS BEING TOLD TO "GO BUY A BRACE" The owner tried to backpeddle and act as though she knew nothing of the injury, nor of the dog *** received by my daughter that same week which the owners were not informed of.

As a dog owner, wouldn't you want to know your dog bit someone in case it were to happen again there or God forbid in public???? today my daughter got chewed out for her "mommy" coming in. ANKENY BARK AVENUE- YOU SUCK!!!! I KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT YOUR TREATMENT OF STAFF AND YOUR CARE OF ANIMALS OR LACK THERE OF.

THE ONLY REASON YOU SIT WITH YOUR HIGH RATINGS IS BECAUSE YOU LIE LIE LIE!!!!! IF PEOPLE SAW HOW THINGS REALLY WERE, WELL YOUR BUSINESS WOULD NOT BE EXPANDING AND GROWING FOR SURE. I do not and will NOT ever board our dogs there after the things I saw last year and since.

OHHH AND THE OTHER GIRL WHO WAS BITTEN BY A DIFFERENT DOG THE SAME DAY MY DAUGHTER WAS BITTEN WAS TOLD NOT TO TELL THE DR SHE WENT TO SEE WHAT THE BREED OR NAME OF THE DOG WAS?!!! WHY COVER THAT UP?

Thank you! For the warning .

My pet is my best friend . I don't know what i would do , if this happened to my pet.

Ankeny pet Salon or Bark Zone are two i would highly recommend.

I will not take my pet there anymore, if there is even a hint of negligence . There are plenty of other businesses in town.
