Charged a $50 fee because I was a first-time patient and wouldn't refund it when I cancelled

I made an appointment to bring my kitty in for a second opinion I was told because I was a first-time patient that there would be a $50 fee that would be used towards the visit .I had never heard of this but I still paid it. My kitty was feeling better so I canceled the appointment 8 days in advance. They refused to give me the $50 back saying that it was non-refundable and it was used to reserve the doctors time. I explained to them that I was disabled, on a fixed income and that it was eight days in advance so they could fill the time slot. I could understand if it was that day or even the day before. The office manager was very nasty and still refused. I'm glad I'm not taking my cat to someone so greedy but I can't believe someone who is supposed to be a doctor could be so sleazy
