*** job not to industry standard

American carports did more damage than good. They gouged our brand new concrete with the forklift and will not pay for repairs.

The trim pieces are 10 ft 6 in Long but my garage door is 12x12 and the corner trim is 14 ft. So, they pieced it together and eye level around 4 ft up from the ground where it is very noticeable. They squished the bottom piece of the trim when they overlapped it so it sticks out and he's even more noticeable. They sent a crew to put the trim seems at the top but the crew came without matching screws and was surprised that they needed green screws for my green trim.

They said they didn't know. Then they wouldn't change the trim because the garage doors were already installed and the little plastic piece for the garage doors was on the trim and they wouldn't take it off and reinstall it or even take it off and we could reinstall it. They wouldn't touch it even though my garage door guy said it was fine. The contractor they came to fix it told me that they're are 14 ft length pieces of trim out of the Texas facility.

I texted the sales department in Texas and they confirmed that Texas does have 14 ft length trim but California does not because they're a newer facility. I called other companies and they have 14 ft length trim as well. When I called American car parts, they said that they couldn't have 14 ft length trim because it wouldn't fit on the trailer. The trim is the shortest thing on the trailer.

Also when they came to fix the trim, became on Thursday and we're scheduled to come out on Saturday. So they had to unlock the gate. When they left, without doing anything, they did not lock the gate and leave it how they found it. The result was the wind blew the gate into the street and broke the corner post on our fence.

They aren't fixing that either. So now American Carports is claiming that they only have the 10-ft pieces of trim and that the pictures online showed only 10 ft pieces of trim with seam lines which is totally not true.

If we had known that the trim would be pieced together and look like crap we would have gone with a different company. Save yourself some grief and go with a reputable company that will stand behind their work.

Dissatisfied

I'm not one for leaving reviews. I believe I may have left 8 or so written ones in the past 30 years using the Internet.

However, I felt I need to share the experience I'm having with American Steel Carports. My first issue was when I was trying to get information on the contractor's license number I needed for my permit. We went back and forth many times without just stating that they have a national contractor's license. They kept forwarding me information on their location in Texas and I knew that they were using a local contractor, but yet they didn't tell me that they have their own national contractor's license which caused about a 2-week delay in my project just to receive that information.

H second issue was when I called the engineering department again with a simple request of having a letter generated to allow me to use fiber mesh instead of wire welded mesh or rebar. I was told that if I wanted to have a letter made it would cost between $250 and $350. I questioned why Is there a cost when I've already paid over $1,000 for site-specific plans and there is a better product out there than what they put on the plans. I was told that the engineers would have to make calculations for the site and have all this other information done in order to produce that letter.

My feeling is that this is a simple money grab, even when my site-specific plans are relatively the same throughout the country. I'm sure that they've made a 30x40 building with a 10x10 garage door and an entry door, yet I had to pay over $1,000. I understand certain municipalities require site-specific plans and therefore they're available, but they did not even know anything about my site. They simply generated the plans most likely from a simple file that they have already had from many other projects in the past.

This is upsetting to me because I'm actually using a product which is rated better than welded mesh and rebar. Now it is coming at a little higher cost for me but I'm willing to invest that for my building. However, I did not expect a $250 or $350 surcharge, if you will, for a simple letter.

I would never recommend American steel carports to anyone based upon my experience. I would not want to see someone else face the same troubles I did.

Thank you.

New Installtion Review

Purchased a 12ft x 30ft x 10 ft Lean To for my pole barn.

Installation Crew arrived on time as promised.

David & I briefly discussed what I was looking for as to location.

They immediately started unloading materials and started Constuction.

They installed & anchored the frame accurately (leveled everything)

Installed siding, roof and trim in (4) hours.

After finishing the crew cleaned area of old boxes etc and put in garbage can. David gave it one more walk-thru checking screws and bolts and asked if I satisfied. Great job.

Great Job

Can't say enough about representative. She was great to work with from start to finish.

Was always available by phone or text.

Building was as expected. Quality materials and well constructed

The crew performed exceptionally well considering weather conditions.

The 30x60x14 building was completed and cleaned up in 2.5 days

Thanks, for the great job.

American Steel Carports - Will not stand behind there product.

Crew was great. Very respectful and courteous and did what I would say is a good job.

The rest of the interaction with this company was extremally poor. After working through the plans, getting permits and having the slab poured they informed me 1 week before the scheduled installation that I could not have a 12 foot high door. Wow, dropped the ball on that one they did. Then 1 week after it was up, I found two leaks.

Was like pulling teeth to get them out in the next month before the interior was spray foamed. They found improperly installed screws as the issue. 1 month later found one more leak and they claim spray foam is modifying structure, voids warranty. I explained extenuating circumstances and they ghost me.

They did not check for leaks after install of after repair. Hose bib was ten feet away.

Can not recommend because they don't stand behind there product. Won't even come out and look.

User's recommendation: I do not recommend. They do not fix issues after the fact, they look for an "out" to not repair.

UPDATE. After getting ignored for 5 months, getting pissed and writings this review, the power of social media prevails.

Got a call from them to schedule repairs. Originals installers showed up to make repairs. Explained to the head guy of the crew that I had two leaks all ready fixed by another crew that was "in the area" and now I found one more. Showed him the pics of the screws not seated.

and the drip inside. They spent about an hour going over the leak area didn't find anything but sealed the top of all the screws in the area. All were very nice and I was just happy to get them out. It has since poured here and guess what?

No leaks. Again, crew was good, building was good just stand behind your product when there is an issue.

And answer your damn phone. Not a good PR move to ghost prior customers.

This company has no service after the sale.

They told me it was designed wrong and some how that is my fault..

Saved for a long time for a place to keep our 5th wheeler and I am glad it was not under it when it came down.

Poor Customer Service and Workmanship

American Steel Carports - Poor Customer Service and Workmanship
American Steel Carports - Poor Customer Service and Workmanship - Image 2

I rarely leave reviews but feel compelled to warn any potential customers of American Steel Carports of Joshua, TX. The design process was very good and they were helpful.

However, once they got my $9k, that is when the customer service was nonexistent and the trouble started. The building leaked badly during the first rain. I immediately emailed Karen, my salesperson, with no response. After a week of waiting, I called and was routed to a lady who took my "complaint".

She said they would contact me and arrange for someone to come out and fix. They never did. I called a couple of more times over several weeks. After no response, I had to fix the leaks myself.

I spent a lot of extra time and money on the slab to put a notch around the edge so it would be "bulletproof" on leaks around the bottom. They did not overlap the notch! That is a major failure in construction and shows how incompetent the crew was that constructed the building. I had to add a special "L" trim along the entire perimeter of the shop on my dime.

Materials cost me an extra $200 + hours of my own labor on a brand new building! After all that, I fixed the leak along the bottom but one of my two windows started leaking! After close inspection, they put a piece of trim in backwards and required a ton of window caulk to stop the leak. I fixed the leaks and noticed several places that were badly scratches and dented.

It appears that a ladder had fallen over during construction. They used a rough touchup paint to try and hide...POOR workmanship.

Do NOT use this company, American Steel Carports of Joshua, TX!!! $9k Nightmare!!!!!ddd

POOR Service & Delivery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We purchased our Carport on the 13th of December 2018. We were promised a 6 week delivery time and this included the 2 week break for the Holidays. We said, sure no problem and we understand.

As of the week of 7th Jan. We were supposed to get a phone call to schedule our installation. The phone call never came. We called the person who sold us the Cover and they get them to call us back. A promise was made and recorded on voice mail that we would be scheduled that week. No schedule.

The 1st of Feb 2019, we called the "installation department" and were told the installation would happen as soon as they "sold more in our area". We trying to be good customers waited patiently. No phone calls as of 27th of Feb. So we called them back again! We were promised a phone call by the end of the week. I really don't think it will be a timely install. I will update the review as time goes by.

SUMMARY:

Purchase Date 13 Dec 2018

Promised Install 28th Jan 2019

Still waiting 27th of Feb 2019

STILL WAITING for an INSTALL DATE after almost 12 weeks! Angry
