Verified ReviewerViolation of CA Consumer Laws – Excessive Deposit & No Contract
American Roofmasters in Lomita, CA violated multiple California consumer protection laws, including Business & Professions Code §7159, by failing to provide a written contract or scope, collecting an excessive deposit, and not completing the agreed-upon work. I paid $3,450 for roof leak repairs and $400 for an inspection, but I was provided no report or photos, and my leaks remain unaddressed.
Instead, the contractor changed the scope without documentation, performed minimal unrelated work, and refused to communicate in writing. I attempted to resolve the issue multiple times, but after receiving only one inadequate response, I had no choice but to file formal complaints with CSLB and BBB. I am posting my experience here to warn others to research contractors carefully, verify their license, and insist on a written contract before making any payments. Do not pay more than 10% or $1000 for a deposit.
Be very wary of Yelp reviews (esp positive ones) which are posted by profiles with minimal content, photos, or contacts.
Some companies will actually post positive reviews from fake profiles to skew their overall rating. If you do have a negative experience make sure to share it with other consumers and make formal complaints!
- Violated ca law- no contract
- Changed job scope verbally - no written documentation
- Avoided written communication -forced certified letters
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Do not do business with a roofing contractor that asks for excessive deposit and does not provide a written contract.
