- - Unannounced subcontractor; price tripled after loading.
- - Delivery never occurred; contacts went unanswered; belongings likely stolen.
UPDATE: They gave our property to a third or fourth party who knows at this point, and after a month of no contact this other company showed up and delivered what is left of our goods. Bed was damaged beyond repair. We have not had a chance to go through and make sure it all arrived but will update if property is missing.
Our experience with American Hills Moving and Storage has been an absolute nightmare and appears to be part of a larger moving scam.
We hired Value Added Moving to handle our move after carefully reviewing our inventory with them four separate times. On moving day, American Hills Moving and Storage showed up unannounced as a subcontractor.
No one informed us beforehand that another company would be handling our belongings.
From the moment they arrived, the crew chief was rude, aggressive, and unprofessional. After they began loading our belongings, they suddenly claimed that Value Added Moving had underbid the job and more than tripled the original quoted price. They conveniently time the paperwork so you sign then change tactics. This felt extremely suspicious given that we had gone over the contents repeatedly in advance.
When we refused to pay thousands more than the agreed price, the movers stopped the job and left most of our property sitting in our garage.
It gets worse.
The scheduled delivery date came and went with no call and no show.
After that, every phone number and email for both American Hills Moving and Storage and Value Added Moving went unanswered.
A week later, we received a call from some unknown third party claiming to have our belongings and demanding the remaining balance in cash before delivery. When we asked to see our property first or even provide the name of his company, he refused and hung up.
That was weeks ago.
At this point, it appears that our property has been stolen. We have reported this situation to law enforcement and multiple consumer protection agencies, including state attorneys general offices, and filed complaints wherever possible.
We are senior citizens and veterans, and the way we have been treated is disgraceful.
No one should have to go through something like this simply for hiring a moving company.
If you value your belongings, do not trust American Hills Moving and Storage or Value Added Moving. Our experience suggests a coordinated bait-and-switch operation followed by what looks very much like hostage tactics or outright theft.
Proceed with extreme caution.
