Verified ReviewerQuestion about GA866 gearbox
- - Hill holder causes a jerk starting from a stop; can it be removed?
- - Downhill, gears hold at up to 1800 rpm before shifting; can this be adjusted?
Hello,
I have purchased a Scania G370 B4x2NB truck with an Allison GA866 gearbox, and I have some questions I hope you can answer.
I have mentioned this to Scania in Norway but have not received a clear answer.
What I am wondering about is that when starting the truck, it seems like there is a 'hill holder' that is holding it back, which causes a 'jerk' every time I start to accelerate, for example, when stopped at a traffic light or in a queue. This does not happen when the brake is held in for a short time (under about 2 seconds). This is very irritating. This does not happen when I am on a downhill slope. I am therefore wondering if this 'hill holder' can be removed?
I also find that the gearbox holds onto gears for a very long time when going downhill, up to 1800 rpm before shifting up, whether I am coasting or lightly accelerating. Is it possible that this can be adjusted?
Otherwise, it's a very nice gearbox!
Sincerely, Axel Hannar

Verified ReviewerQuestion: Scania vs. Allison transmission no ACC ?
- - ACC not available with GA866 due to missing sensor.
- - CC is available on all GA866 transmissions.
- - Opticruise offers ACC on Scania trucks.
Hi !
I have a question that I hope you can help me with.
I have bought a Scania 370hp/ 1900nm DC13 162, euro 6, XPI/SCR with delivery in September 2024. This will be delivered with an Allison GA866 6-speed electronically controlled transmission.
The Scania salesman says that it is impossible to get adaptive cruise control for this truck due to the transmission.
According to Scania, this is because it is missing a sensor.
Scania is coming out with a completely new dashboard next year, and I am wondering if this might make it possible to mount this sensor. I have no idea where this sensor might be mounted, or other things that need to be engineered to make this happen, but I hope that this is possible so that adaptive cruise control can also be obtained in a Scania with an Allison transmission.
In any case, I am looking forward to getting a really good transmission for my truck!
I am attaching the answer I received from Scania Norway:
It is correct that adaptive cruise control (ACC) is not available for the GA866 transmission. ACC is an advanced cruise control feature that uses radar to keep the vehicle at a constant distance from the vehicle in front. This feature is not available for the GA866 transmission because it does not have the necessary sensor.
However, regular cruise control (CC) is available for the GA866 transmission.
CC is a simpler cruise control feature that keeps the vehicle at a constant speed.
This feature is available on all GA866 transmissions.
Here is a summary of the available cruise control features for the GA866 transmission:
Regular cruise control (CC): Available on all GA866 transmissions.
Adaptive cruise control (ACC): Not available.
If you are interested in a transmission with ACC functionality, we recommend that you consider a different transmission, such as Opticruise. Opticruise is an automatic transmission with ACC functionality that is available on all Scania trucks.
Please contact us if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Scania Norway
