Do not deal with Alert 1. They will do what they can to get their contract extended and bill you for another year. I originally called them and ordered a unit for one year $385.00 was charged to my credit card for one year which was agreed to. I called to cancel prior to the renewal. I returned the equipment. I was sent out the new PAX system being 100% assured by the representatives and technicians that I would have coverage though AT&T. I paid a one yr monitoring agreement in advance b/c it was a better deal than paying monthly. Alert-1 will keep your money on pre-paid accounts. They will only refund if you have used it less then 30 days. If you order a device, use it 31 days and your loved one dies, Alert-1 will *** out of the remainder of the money. Since this is a medical alert device, I would think they get to keep the balance of the vast majority of their pre-paid accounts. It is like going to a store and not getting your change. Paid for the annual service for Alert1 for my mom. The annual service was cheaper and provided some additional benefits so they suckered me in. My mom died unexpectedly three months after service was started and because I didn't cancel within the first 30 days they told me that I cannot get a refund.
