I could not find anyone to help my girlfriend-she said she was having trouble breathing. After 20 minutes a tech came and upon observing her screamed to me to fetch help. As it turned out she was not breathing for one full minute was unofficially dead! The attending nurse had refused my request for help because she stated she "had other patients" to service. Her regular nurse demanded she be sent to the hospital( over the objections of the home's administrator and head nurse) immediately. This was the kind of treatment she received for three months before she transferred herself to another hospital/home in north Bergen. God help anyone who cannot help themselves when they find themselves in a position of helplessness in these institutions.
