Betrayed customer-base for profit margins
- Allergic customers trusted this soap to be allergen-free.
- Cap color changed with no warning; formula now has 9 ingredients.
Everyday Shea Body Wash, Unrefined Shea Butter, Unscented
Allergic customers, the target customer-base of "Unrefined" and "Unscented" soap, bought this soap because they trusted this product to be allergen-free.
The cap color changing does not imply an ingredient change, nor that there are ingredients that may harm them in violation of the "Unrefined" label.
This damaging change, without adequate warning, where the only warning is an inconspicuous black cap, could be illegal.
I didn't think much of the new black cap, until I used it. I noticed it's extremely watered down, to the point it's clear, instead of the regular brown.
The ingredients increased and are very different.
There's a new 'Aqua/Water/Eau' at the top that the original didn't have.
Original 4 ingredients: Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Leaf Aqueous Extract, Saponified Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Coco-Betaine.
Current 9 ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Potassium Shea Butterate, Potassium Cocoate, Coco-Betaine, Melia Azadirachta Leaf, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Phytate, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Hydroxide
Removed 3 ingredients: Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Leaf Aqueous Extract, Saponified Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
Added 8 ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Potassium Shea Butterate, Potassium Cocoate, Melia Azadirachta Leaf, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Phytate, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Hydroxide
Common 1 ingredient: Coco-Betaine
There are a few new ingredients that seem to push "unrefined" into false advertising territory.
The original soap was apparantly TOO good, therefore unprofitable. They're increasing profit margins by selling out their earned customer-base.
I've been using only this soap for years, due to how reliable and good of a soap it was for the price.
Now that reliability is gone, I'll be buying the original soap from resellers for now, but the price will increase as it gets rarer.
After that, I'm not sure what soap to go to. The original soap was simply, the best soap on shelves, period.
If Alaffia cannot continue making the product, as a grace to their previous loyal customers, they should publish the original soap's recipe online.

Verified ReviewerProblems locating your products
- Everyday coconut lime shampoo is being discontinued; stores are out.
- Amazon seller price gouges conditioner at $30; return in progress.
My name is Jill Dibert, I have been using your products for about 15 years and suddenly the stores say they can't get them and they are consistently out. I live in Sacramento Ca.
I was lookinbg for everyday coconut shampoo and conditioner. Whole foods on Arden Way said they had been out for weeks. I called Whole Foods in Folsom Ca. they were also out.
I usually buy your products at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op they were also out. I did find shampoo and conditioner at the Sprouts Farmers Market on Marconi in Sacramento so I am set for awhile. The manager at Sprouts has been very helpful. She spoke with someone at Alaffia who told her the everyday coconut lime shampoo is being discontinued.
WHY? It is the best thing I have ever used. This makes me VERY UNHAPPY! I use the black soap, body wash and lotion.
I have used the face creams. In other words I have used MANY of your products.
I have another issue. Because I could not find conditioner I tried Amazon. Amazon was selling everyday coconut conditioner through a 3rd part seller (Globus Relief Store in Utah).
I did order it prior to finally finding some at Sprouts. They were charging $30.00 a bottle!!! I am now attempting to return it. I know what your products sell for.
This 3rd party told me that Amazon sets the price. But I believe this 3rd party is price gouging. At Whole Foods I was told that Alaffia sets the price with both Amazon and 3rd parties. I don';t know what to believe.
I am begining to feel that I need to look into a whole line of different products.
I also want to let your know that I called the 800 number to speak with someone. Years ago I used to order directly from you. I got a recording I left my Email address and have never heard from anyone.
I called a week ago! I have always liked the fact that Alaffia gives back, planting trees, building schools, eyeglasses for kids, all the good work your company does, but I am becoiming very discouraged!

User's recommendation: don't order from Amazon, especially 3rd party sellers!
Problem with packaging design and wasted product - EVERYDAY SHEA BODY LOTION
- I love your lotion, but the pump leaves unrecoverable product.
- Please improve the bottle and pump design.
Re: packaging design and product Hello! I love your lotion, but the pump leaves about a half cup of product that I can't get to without sawing the bottle in half.
I doubt that many people go to the trouble a- most probably just toss the bottle, wasting a lot of good product. I care about the environment and wasting resources. I hope your product design team will look into improving the bottle and pump for this product.
P.S. I have photos I would be glad to show you of how much lotion is left, but I don't see a way to send attachments.
