Resolved: Poor Customer Service

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product replacement.

Updated by user Sep 30, 2022

Update:After writing this and several other negative reviews, AQ Lighting customer service did contact me in an effort to correct my problem. They contacted the vendor that provided the light fixture I purchased, and suggested I select another light fixture without a globe.

I was able to find a suitable fixture. AQ Lighting did arrange to ship the new fixture without cost to me. They required that I return the old fixture (that had already been installed on a 10-foot post by the electrician) – I don’t really understand why that was necessary. But I was able to lower the old fixture and install the new fixture myself without a lot of trouble.

As requested, I returned the old fixture, and AQ Lighting provided a postage paid label. Although it took several weeks and a few emails, AQ Lighting provided a refund for the difference in price (the new fixture was less expensive).I installed a 300-watt LED in the fixture, which has worked out very well.

I appreciate the effort that AQ Lighting Customer Service made in correcting the problem. But, it would have been nice if they had made the effort prior to me writing the negative reviews…

Original review Jun 21, 2022
On May 2, 2022, I ordered an R Series 1 Light Outdoor Railroad Shade Gooseneck from AQ Lighting. The cost was $248.00.

The specifications provided on the AQ Lighting website stated the light has a 200-watt maximum power rating. When I received the light I found it was rated for only 100 watts. I selected the railroad light, in part, because the higher power rating. The light was intended to be installed on my pier (dock) and I knew I needed quite a bit of light.

When I tried to find 200-watt equivalent LED bulb, I discovered that none would fit in the globe. As a result, I had to use a 100-watt equivalent bulb. A 100-watt bulb does provide a sufficient amount of light.
In contacted AQ Customer Service and asked if I could get (or purchase) a clear globe that fits the light, hoping that the clear bulb should throw more light. I also asked if they had 200-watt equivalent bulb that will fit inside the globe of my light.

Customer Service said they had a clear globe and a 150-watt equivalent bulb that was supposed to be compatible with the railroad light. They also said I would have to pay for both, including shipping. The cost was another $70. Later they called and advised that the clear globes were out of stock and they couldnt specify when it would be available.

They also stated that because they didnt have access to the light of the bulb they couldnt guarantee it would fit the light. When it arrived, it was far to large to fit in the globe.
Once again I contacted Customer Service, they now tell me that they will accept the return but I would have to pay the cost of the return shipping. I believe all these problems arise from the company misrepresenting the specifications of their products.

Im now stuck with a light that doesnt meet my needs, and all AQ is interested in is getting more of my money. Dont Trust This Company!

Absolutely fraudulent company!

I placed an order for under the cabinet lighting and when it arrived I realized it was too bulky for my situation. I looked at their policy and they said you have to make a claim within 48 hours of receiving the product.

I suppose if you are out of town when they arrive you are just out of luck. I also noticed that the transformer that was in the photo was smaller than the one I received and when I tried out the dimmer it was very unresponsive. I contacted the claims department and Mark told me it would be a 35% restocking fee + shipping! He said, "These fees are steep - and we agree with that - but the reason behind that is because we keep our prices so low for our customers that we do not leave any room to absorb the cost of the returns." So I looked around at other companies on the internet and AQL is no cheaper than any other company, so this line is a ruse.

I re-contacted Mark who defended his position and refused to give me all of my money back even though I was returning the product just as it had been shipped.

Horrible customer service!

Do not buy from this company. The positive reviews are obviously fake as they will make no attempt to make things right if you are not satisfied.

They were all very beautiful

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased numerous outdoor lights from you about 2-3 years ago. They were all very beautiful, extremely well made and I felt I got a great value.

On my pagoda lights, the glass got cloudy so when I switched to LED I was going to buy new glass. I ordered them at a landscaping store and when I went to pick them up, I was told there was no charge as they were guaranteed!!!! Recently during a tree trimming, a pagoda light was knocked over, the glass broke and a part got thrown away with the debris. I called AQLighting, was told to email a picture, got a response back within about 10 minutes.

I then had to request a return authorization which I did, received that with hours.

They replaced the missing glass for free, glued what needed to be glued and changed me $10 for the other part I needed and sent it back to me.

Not only do you have a fabulous product, you were very helpful when I ordered these lights and your customer service is unbelievable. Thank you so much, it is such a pleasure doing business with you.

THIS OUTFIT IS THE WORST!

They are TOTAL weasels!

They have an interesting way to get good reviews they offer you a onetime 10% discount if you write a 5 star review first!

Sales are the only thing that counts they lie, cheat, and their employees are under duress and scrutiny

Even add $3 charge for "insurance" to your invoice although refused & unwanted

Numerous phone calls and legitimate complaints are taken by Barbara and owner ignores supposedly.

THEY MUST BE INVESTIGATED!

Shady return policy.

Careful! If you want to return a product , even in new condition, they'll take 30% restocking fee.

That notice is buried in the website. Plus expect to pay return shipping and wait at least 30 days for a check even when I paid with credit card. It's been now two months and I still have not got back my 70%. They're response is that they are small company.

Well good luck then with a *** retrun policy.

I'd stay away as they are plenty of other options. Plus they have other websites that are all the same CCL-light.com.

Bought solar, can't replace bulbs as I was told I could

Bought 2 sets of Solar lighting from QUALITY AFFORDABLE LIGHTING...when I ordered them, I ASKED at that time if I can buy EXTRA bulbs with my order..knowing down the road I will need them being they are LIGHT BULBS...I was told by TOM..you would be better off buying them at your local hardware store...one of these sets was a special order, had to pay extra for one of the lights needing to be on a longer cord. I paid to have these lights put in place, both sets up set up high...so now I have invested aprox.

$350.00 buying these lights, and paying to have them installed. 2 bulbs went out, one on each set, called TOM...I told him 3-13-2013'what had happened, he said "That is the OLDER type lights, I can sell you bulbs, but when they go out, you won't be able to buy anymore bulbs for them, OR you can buy 2 new sets of lights, OR I can have my electrician/handyman cut these up and install new parts....what a bunch of *** and expense...I was LIED to about being able to buy bulbs THE DAY I PLACED THIS ORDER.

I cannot find these bulbs anywhere, he sells them for $12.00+ each. So if you buy from this company it will be your fault when something goes wrong, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Very, very bad customer service

This merchant is not one you want to deal with! First, thet hit your credit card the day you place the order.

However, the order does not ship for another two weeks. Second, they do not notify you if and when the order ships. You must subnit a request and wait up to 10 working days for information. Third, then they ship the wrong merchandise.

Again, you must post a request on the web site and wait up to 10 working days for an answer. These guys are bad by design. Stay away! I wish I had never placed an order with this merchant.

Oh, by the way, you can't cancel the order either. Again, that takes another 10 working days!

Affordable Quality Lighting--Fraud, Buyer Beware.

Affordable Quality lighting is a fraud. I was scammed and researched them in preparation for my lawsuit.

--Real owner George Kalta indited by the FBI. (Google George Kalta FBI to see for yourself).

-His nephew Hanni Michael Hanna worked for him and started his own company doing the same scam (see sunriselights.com, sonriselighting.com and now socallighting.com)

-says they are a manufacturer and made in USA --reality they are an internet sales co that buys cheap chinese products from an importer in LA (I have the name).

-Had 79 BBB complaints and a terrible reputation so they changed their name from consumerchoicelighting.com to contractorschoicelighting.com and now to affordablequalitylighting.com, each time to start with a new reputation.

-Every customer has to sign a 3 page FAXED contract after you pay for the sole purpose of taking away your rights to dispute credit card charges or sue. That's right in the Internet age-- you must have access to a fax machine to order from Affordable Quality Lighting.

-created fake consumerlightingreports.org website to make them look good. (and to bad mouth his nephew's competing scam).

-Affordable Quality Lighting spends ALL their money on Goggle Ad Words to get you to buy-- no money left over--like a PONZI SCHEME. No money left for for service, quality, returns or anything--that's why a highly advertised co hangs up on you, swears at you and never refunds or allows returns.

-says member of all these associations and shows all these badges on their website--all fake. I called first one listed, American Lighting Association and they said Affordable quality lighting is not a member. Affordable says "we never said we are members of those associations, the website says 'you can judge people by who they associate with', then listed many associations. It doesn't say Affordable Quality Lighting is a member or affiliated with them." How deceiving, and fraudulant.

-Testimonials--fake

-Lifetime warranty --worthless--read terms and conditions CAREFULLY -- covers essentially nothing. Entire terms are double talk.

-Building photoshopped to look twice as big and removed all their warnings signs. Real building is small, has barbed wire, fencing surrounding entire building, cameras and big signs all over it saying "smile your on CAMERA" to keep all the unhappy local customers away.

-Been in business 1 year 3 months as affordable quality lighting, more if you include the 3 different names -- but not even close to 34 years.

-If wish someone had told me. I assumed because they were always listed first in Paid Ad Words that they must be legitimate--afterall who would go thru all that trouble for a scam operation--boy was I wrong. All the FBI WARNING, SCAM ALERT and strange sales tactics should have clued me in that there was something wrong with this co..

-Don't believe me? Do your own research, Google affordable quality lighting or George Kalta, read their own terms and conditions. Call and ask why you need a fax machine to order, look-up contractors choice lighting in BBB.org, buy one item first as a sample (oh forgot--they won't sell you less than $100 orders).

How Google or the Gov't allows this company to go on is unbelieveable.

Trevor, I have been having both product and service problems with Contractor's Choice Lighting and now Affordable Quality Lighting for years. Would you consider exchanging information? I am curious how your lawsuit concluded?

I have been buying from this company for years. With great service and product...and saving tons of money, since my projects stem from all over the globe.

This is clearly industry sabotage. Didn't know the Lighting Industry was so dramatic.

Affordable Quality Lighting = Rip off

I needed outdoor lights for a party. It took 14 days from the time of my order with qualityaffordablelighting.com to get them.

I had to buy other lights in order to have them in time for the party.

I filled a return form (after calling and being directed to do this), but after 3.5 weeks I had not heard back from them. I called again. I was told that it was likely my error and that they would not accept a return.

All in the fine, FINE print of course.

Fine print reliance usually means bad business. Lousy customer service and a rip off.

You have only to read their own product descriptions to decide that their web manager is working from a 5th grade education at best (grammar, misspellings, inaccurate descriptions). My personal lighting exchanges have been loaded with high restocking fees, if they will accept returns at all.

The fixtures sold have all been only average design with even more mediocre construction. If there were a better place, I'd recommend someone else.

Guest

Call your bank and have them do a chargeback on your credit card. Tell them that they did not send lights in the promised time and the product that you ordered did not work.

Guest

You should read all the topix forums and ripoffreport.com about these guys!

Guest

Check out the rip off reports on these guys. They used to be Contractors Choice Lighting, they changed their company name due to all the BBB complaints but their ownership is the same.

Same people, same bad service!
