Denied Access to Medically Necessary Treatment – Medicaid Patients Beware

AI Highlights
  • Filed complaints with Florida DOH, AHCA, and Simply Healthcare; delays for hospital-based lab authorizations; hostility and a $50 Medicaid no-show fee.

I was a patient at Florida Skin Center (Advanced Dermatology) and had an extremely negative experience that led me to file formal complaints with multiple agencies, including the Florida Department of Health.

Despite being on Accutane a medication that legally requires monthly check-ins and pregnancy testing their office repeatedly delayed or outright refused to submit proper prior authorizations for medically necessary lab access, even after I provided all documentation and CPT codes myself. They acknowledged I needed hospital-based lab access due to difficult veins, but still chose to ignore requests, miss deadlines, and miscommunicate critical information.

When I tried to advocate for myself, I was treated with open hostility.

I was spoken about unprofessionally within earshot of other patients, and was even denied care after they canceled my appointment last-minute.

When I finally switched providers, they had the audacity to charge me a $50 no-show fee, despite knowing Im a Medicaid patient which they are not allowed to do.

I have since reported this office to the Florida Department of Health, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), and my Medicaid plan, Simply Healthcare.

If youre a Medicaid patient, be warned: you may be treated as less-than, talked down to, and denied essential care.

I strongly urge Advanced Dermatology corporate to investigate this location and hold their staff accountable. No one should have to fight this hard just to get the basic standard of care.

User's recommendation: do NOT subject yourself to this horrible treatment
