Addendum: I have not received any further calls from AAA Energy since I reported my experience to this site.I have had two other calls touting the same claims. Neither of these callers would give me the name of the company they represented.I have spoken with PG&E’s Customer Service on two separate occasions and neither of the reps I spoke with indicated any knowledge as to whether these calls are actually sanctioned by PG&E.
The rep said AAA Energy could save me at least 30% or more every month on gas charges, even to the point of having no charges in some months
Who gives you free gas? So I started asking a lot of questions. He kept interrupting me with more of his pitch. I had to demand he stop talking and let me speak.
He finally did stop. I told him that his pitch sounded like a scam and I needed his phone number to return his call as I needed to check his company out before any changes could be made just with a phone call. I then asked him if this call was being recorded, he said it was (illegal when the called individual is not first advised). I replied good as I want no confusion or misunderstanding about my intentions.
I was definitely NOT giving consent to changing my gas utility company. The call ended stating if I had any further questions I would contact him and hung up before he could object or try to continue his pitch.
I googled the company name, found two pages of complaints on the Better Business Bureau website. Every complaint was the same pitch, same wording and lies, which people realized after getting their bills. The worse part was when they called to cancel, there was a 60-day waiting period, yet the service was STARTED immediately upon agreeing to the switch.
Many had to wait longer for the service to be cancelled as PG&E was to blame for the long delay.
PG&E needs to get ahead of this scam and mail out warnings to all customers with an immediate mass mailing and with notices sent in the next several billing cycles. All customers need to be informed about this latest scam to defraud otherwise honest people, especially senior citizens, who are just looking for a remedy to relieve high utility costs.
