Dishonest and disrespectful company

Stay far, far away from this dishonest joke of a moving company. I hired 3m Movers via Moving Help when booking a UHaul van last weekend. Figured I could use some help moving boxes and furniture into the van, and the price seemed very reasonable. Over a half hour after the scheduled start time, I had not heard from the movers so called to check on the status. The manager who picked up, Michael Hobbs, impatiently told me the movers were outside my apartment and had been trying to call me. Thinking I had missed their calls, I went outside but didnt see anyone. 10 minutes later, the movers finally showed up. One of them apologized for being late and asked if he could charge his phone in my apartment. His phone was dead they had never tried calling me, so I knew the manager had lied to me. Once the movers were inside my apartment, we explained to them that we needed help loading the van to take to a donation drop off. One of the movers angrily and rudely responded that loading the van wasnt in the contract and demanded we pay him extra cash on the side. We were very confused as we thought we had booked 2 hours of their time for loading and unloading the van. When we calmly asked him to explain what he meant by not being part of the contract, he got even more angry and told us to get out of his way. It seemed very likely he was on drugs. Not wanting to be disrespected in my own apartment, we fired the movers on the spot and told them to leave. They refused to leave the apartment property until we threatened to call the police. I called Uhaul right away, explained the nightmare experience Id just had, and thankfully got a full refund. I will be telling everyone I know in the DMV to avoid 3m Movers, and I sincerely hope they go out of business.

I can't say I've ever heard of 3M Movers before so I'm not surprised they were problematic. It's generally a better idea to stick to the big names in the industry, particularly if you're moving long distance.

Ideally, they should be in business for 10 years or more and have a history that isn't littered with bad reviews and poor performance. I used a company last year that was a good one and they have a good article on their website https://***/avoiding-rogue-movers-and-scams/ about how to avoid scams and situations like this.

Poor Experience - Terrible Moving Company

Imagine the stress surrounding moving – the big day has arrived, the truck is ready to be unloaded into your new home and the movers are on time and ready to work. This is a manageable task, as long as all your plans fall into place. Thankfully, the new Uhaul mover reservation system makes booking easy. 3M Movers could have made this a breeze, yet chose to make the task as excruciating as possible. Instead of accepting payment and completing the agreed upon work, 3M Movers complained about the boxes, the number of floors in the house and the amount of furniture contained within a 17’ Uhaul truck. After unloading less than half of the truck, the movers decided this was far too much work for their delicate sensibilities and quit, leaving us with a truck that needed to be returned the same day. I would not recommend 3M Movers for anything, let alone moving anything of value. This was a poor decision that resulted in a later than necessary night after an already long day.
