1800hotels is a Scam!!

I used 1-800-Hotels to purchase several hotel stays in Europe back in August or September 2010 and was then told that the company went out of business. Since then, I have received only 2 letters from them stating that they were investigating this matter and would refund my money. To date, I have yet to receive my refund! This is such a scam. I will complain to the BBB and see that they are reprimanded for such behavior. This is unacceptable.

"1800hotels" Please Don't Fall For It!

I actually worked for 1800hotels and that place is a joke. I recommend anyone that has a reservation with 1800hotels cancel it immediately!!

Take the 20% loss and please never book with them again. After not paying their bills and leaving families with children out in the rain they are in what they call a "recovery mode". Which basically means taking more hard earned money from hard working people who will never see it coming. Tania and Ramon Moronta are the lab rats there taking reservations.

The owner Graham Peaking Tania's brother. Not only are they scamming their clients they also scammed their employees:we never received our final paychecks.

It's tough knowing that I was a part of this. To whom it may concern I deeply apologize.

Be advised that both Graham and Jackie Peakin are now operating a business called hotelmode.com. I experiencing the same service!!! :(

Guest

This company is doing business again. But still be carefull, don't do business with this company. They still own me $ 1900 !!!

Guest

Ex-employee paid in full? BS!!!!

Never got our last commission checks...

and dealing with the impossibility of being able to accommodate stranded people. Unbelievable, this company owes me more than $2,000 that I rightfully earned!!!!!

Guest

I used to work for 1800hotels...before even it opened a call center in the U.S.

And i find appalling that you Tania are able to say that they have paid all employees ..LIE ! LIE !LIE! A all pack of lies !1800hotes still owes us money .

You full of it ... the all scheme is full of lies .Graham is on the run and moved to NY ...be aware he will suck everyone around him dry !

I´m chasing my money legally , like most people , but with the difference I was an employee and could see the company slowly dying due to the BAD MANAGEMENT in the U.S. call center ...if the relocation had never happened 1800hotels would still be running and making money .

1800hotels deserves all the bad publicity .

Guest

I also worked for 1800hotels; there was potential for it to be a great company but GRAHAM PEAKIN ran it into the ground with his greed, paying himself and the few people close to him ridiculous salaries, while those of us actually trying to make the company work on a daily basis have been left high and dry. I was ashamed to work for such a company once I found out what was happening to all our customers, and the worst thing is, THERE WAS NO NEED FOR IT.

If we were just a struggling company who went under in the recession I would have found it easier to accept, but this was all down to greed, senior management bled the company dry. Graham Peakin is a snake who cares about no-one but himself.

Hey Tania-

If you are the one that been discussed here and is part of this 1-800 hotels scam, then *** YOU. You are nothing but a *** garden variety criminal that deserves to be in jail! God forbid anyone should offend you by calling you a "lab rat". How about if I call you a "*** CRIMINAL SO FULL OF *** YOUR EYES ARE BROWN"...How's that? I don't give a *** about offending you. It's nothing compared to the $1000 YOU STOLE from me!

The general attitude of your *** company and the email you sent was deplorable, unprofessional and unforgivable. Your company will NEVER recover from this fiasco you've CAUSED through greed, stupidity and *** poor management. Basically, your email said "Hey you, we canceled your reservation, stole your money and are giving you the finger. If you don't like it, then take it up with the bankruptcy court"...

Wishing you a nice eternity in ***-I'll be at your trial.

This whole "booked hotel rooms before july 28th" thing.......does that mean the vacation or actual physical booking date? If I booked a hotel in march for a vacation in middle august, will it be canceled or will it be ok?

Guest

Yeah right you're sorry and apologize, that’s so full of $%#& we made reservations in April, got confirmation the night before our stay, got to the hotel and it had been canceled the same night it was booked. What criminal’s class action lawsuit will be next.

The guy is a liar and full on just as responsible for the company's shady practices as anyone else at the computer, probably more becuase he was the one that made the decisions as to who to refund. He's simply so full of *** his eyes are brown.

He's a slimy, lying, fat bag of puke. He even ripped off my own family and would make up *** to get coworkers fired.

He stabbed the guy in the back whose job he took. I hope this guy has diabetes to go through his 400 pound Cadillac driving ***.

Took our money!!! No record of reservation

we booked a trip to london which was cancelled due to volcano in Iceland. They sent us a voucher for the amount, however I can not get them to answer their phone or call us back to try to book another room.

when I call the hotel where we were booked they can not find a record of our reservation. 1800hotels states they will not give refunds so we have our money invested with them. I would prefer not to book with them but they have $1400 of our money.

Now when I call I do not even get through on the number they provided.

1-800-Hotels doesn't explain upfront there's a 20% cancellation penalty at ANY time

I booked, within the last 10 minutes, a very expensive Thanksgiving holiday - 2 rooms, 3 nights - through 1-800 HOTELS. Only AFTER I paid, and received a CONFIRMATION email, did it become clear, in big letters, that if I cancel, I will be responsible for 20% of the cost, no matter how far in advance you cancel.

10 minutes later, another email arrived, explaining how to cancel and spelling out in detail, AFTER it is too late, that I will have to pay 20% if I cancel.

I have booked hotels all over the world, I have used Expedia, Orbitz, and a number of other discount agencies, and this has never been the policy.

When I complained, within TEN minutes of the confirmation. I was told there was nothing to be done and I should not have put a tick in the tiny box that says "I have read, understood and confirm acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.

Later, after finding out what had happened, I repeated the process to see how easy/difficult 1800 HOTELS made it to find out about this huge penalty. Everything was printed in big, easy letters, except for the tiny box that says "I agree with Terms and Conditions", the one I put a tick next to. Of course, I shouldn't have, but 1800-HOTELS should have made the cancellation policy clear on the same page, as so many companies do.

When I DID click on the Terms and Conditions, there were SEVEN pages of small print, with the cancellation fee in among it all on page THREE! I decided to print it all out for evidence, and couldn't believe it when I saw the printout: it came out in such faint print that it is barely decipherable! (There is nothing wrong with my printer, because the page number and the "Terms: 1800HOTELS.com" at the top are very clear in normal color.)

This company is not straightforward, and their policy is unacceptable even if they WERE straightforward about it. I'd strongly advise against using them.

1-800-HOTELS - the catch is only in the fine print

Please be very careful with going through 1-800HOTELS -- you need to be perfectly sure you will not want to cancel the booking as there is a 20% cancellation fee, not matter how far in advance you cancel.

I booked, within the last 10 minutes, a very expensive Thanksgiving holiday - 2 rooms, 3 nights - through 1-800 HOTELS. Only AFTER I paid, and received a confirmation email, did it become clear, in big letters on the 2nd page, that if I cancel, I will be responsible for 20% of the cost.

I have booked hotels all over the world, I have used Expedia, Orbitz, and a number of other discount agencies, and this has never been the policy.

Once I read that, I emailed 1800HOTELS to ask them to cancel without penalty AND I called the 1.800 number -- both within TEN minutes of the confirmation, but I was told there was nothing to be done and I should not have put a tick in the tiny box that says "I have read, understood and confirm acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.

Later, after finding out what had happened, I repeated the process to see how easy/difficult 1800 HOTELS made it to find out about this huge penalty. For evidence, I printed out this "experimental" reservation - everything was printed in big, easy letters, except for the tiny box that says I agree with Terms and Conditions, the one I put a tick next to (of course, I shouldn't have). I would have had to click on the underlined 3 words "Terms and Conditions" to find out more - whereas 1800HOTELS could have made the cancellation policy nice and big too, as so many companies do.

When I DID click, in my experimental booking, there were SEVEN pages of small print, with the cancellation fee in among it all on page THREE. I thought I should print it all out for evidence... and it came out in such faint print that it is barely decipherable. (There is nothing wrong with my printer because the page number and the "Terms: 1800HOTELS.com" at the top are very clear in normal color.)

tripadvisor.com was my entry point for that site and I want to ask tripadvisor, which I use often and love, not to let 1800HOTELS bury its unusually harsh cancellation policy in fine print. Until that happens, please be very careful that you will NOT want to cancel.

1800Hotels scam

This company is an absolute joke! After leaving hundreds if not thousands of travelers without hotel rooms, closing their website because they could not pay their suppliers and filing for bankruptcy protection they are up and running again?

Are you kidding me? Millions of dollars are OWED to guests who either cancelled reservations or showed up at the hotel to be told the reservation had been cancelled... and 1800hotels STILL has their money! This is a DISGRACE!

The authorities should prevent Graham and Jackie Peakin from ever going into business again. After trying to tell the WORLD about these scam artists, you should also file a complaint with the State of Florida (http://myfloridalegal.com/consumer). They need to be run out of the US! And I doubt the Irish will welcome them back!

And Miss Tania...

"all employees" were not paid in full... there are a number of ex employees still waiting on commission checks, double check with your attorney (and Jackie hasnt passed the Bar YET)to get the info on what a CLASS ACTION LAW suit involves, its coming!

Scammed for 1650 euros. Made a prepaid booking through 1800Hotels for 3 weeks Shorewalk-Florida.

Travelling from Holland to Florida but Shorewalk wasn't booked for me by 1800Hotels.

Trying to contact 1800hotels by their 1-800 number in Tampa, e-mails ....and so on without success. So guys don't trust 1800 ***....!!!!!!!

1800moneygone!!!

Kathryn F Snd

You are so right.

David Peake is nothing short of a common criminal. My son was due to travel on Tuesday to compete in a World Championship sporting event. The team has been scammed out of £5000. The whole trip and the culmination of a year's hard training is in tatters thanks to these crooks. We have no chance of getting our money back.

Someone needs to expose these *** artists. Also, everyone should be aware that they are only back in business because they are being bank-rolled by Expedia who equally should be put in the spotlight and asked why as a British Company they are supporting a crook who has scammed tens of thousands of pounds out of British taxpayers. If anyone can find any contact details for Expedia that isn't a call centre in India then post it on here, because they are impossible to track down.

1800Hotels Screwed me over

I booked a hotel in Boston, using 1800Hotels, on June 3, 2010, and prepaid for two nights. Upon landing in Boston on Aug 3rd, I found that 1800Hotels had cancelled my reservation due to having filed Chapter 11 on July 14, 2010.

Excuse me, they filed on 7/14/10 and notify me on 8/3/10 they are cancelling my reservation?? Inexcuseable. After several calls to the hotel and hotel chain I was able to secure a room at the totel I had originally booked at a rate LESS THAN I had recieved from 1800Hotels.

1800Hotels is not reputable. Do NOT BOOK thru them.

There are many other travel websites to book thru to get competitive rates.

On june 7, I booked a the hyatt regency in buffalo ny. through 1800hotels. I recieved a confirmatio

I booked the hyatt regency through 1800hotel on june 7,2010. The reservation was booked for july 17th-july19,2010.

I called the Hyatt on July 12th and the hotel comfirmed the reservation. I called again on July 13,2010(today), and the hotel told me that the reservation had been cancelled today. According to the hotel, GTA travel had faxed a letter to the hyatt canceling the reservation. So I looked up GTA travel and called them.

They told me that 1800hotels had contracted them to book their reservations, but they had failed to keep their contract and had sent no money to pay for the reservations. GTA travel said I needed to talk to 1800hotels to get my money back since I had booked through them. I have called 1800 hotel over 10 times today with no response. No response to emails either.

This is deliberate fraud.

If you haven't got your money back by now your chances are unforunately fading.....

from the 1800hotels.ie website:

1800Hotels has been forced by two suppliers into bankruptcy proceedings to restructure its debt. Some customers may experience room cancellations. All customers should contact their hotel directly to make sure that their reservation is not affected.

1800Hotels is pursuing a legal injunction to prevent any further disruption of customer travel. We will work diligently to resolve this matter as soon as possible and will provide more information as it becomes available.

1800hotels confirmed reservation and then cancelled it with no notification.

I booked a hotel room in Lima, Peru and received confirmation a month ago from 1800hotels. Today I arrived at the hotel and was told that my reservation had been cancelled even though it was prepaid.

I was left high and dry at 5:00 in the morning and forced to make another reservation with the same hotel and at a much higher price. 1800hotels is not returning any phone calls, email messages, or my money.

I am out a total of 250 dollars and have spent the first three hours of my vacation trying to deal with this situation while suffering from jet lag and language barrier issues. Needless to say, this is a horrible start to a vacation.

Arriving at the hotel I was told that the booking was cancelled so I had to pay the same amount again to stay.

We made our reservation the beginning of June for the Fairmont in Chicago and prepaid $750. We arrived on July 29th to find that our reservation had been cancelled that morning because of non-payment.

We had to pay for the hotel again. We were fortunate that the Fairmont at least honored the discounted rate. 1800hotels responded to an email today by attaching a bankruptcy form and stating, "Travelers who booked hotel rooms prior to July 14th should expect their reservation to be cancelled by one of our suppliers." Really? Where was that in my confirmation!

I expected that when I prepaid my reservation six weeks in advance the payment would be made as promised.

They have started taking reservations again but I would highly recommend staying away from this company.

Guest

I called my Las Vegas hotel I booked for 3 nights for middle of August and they said it's still confirmed. How I don't know after reading all these and knowing 1800hotels filed bankruptcy. Other wise out $350

I made reservations thru 1800Hotles.com for a 2 night stay at a 4 diamond hotel in St. Pete Beach, Fl.

This was supposed to be an anniverary gift to my husband. When we went to check in the hotel clerk informed us that we had been scamed! Apparently 3 other couples had come in yesterday with the bogus reservations pre-paid to 1800hotels.com. The company never made the reservations and kept our money.

Now we are out of our money and had to go back home. Beware of 1800Hotels.com they are theives!!!

I'M ABOUT TO GO TO TORONTO, FOR THE CARIBANA, AND THE HOTEL JUST TOLD ME IT'S BEEN CANCELLED AND I PAID $480, SO WHAT DO WE DO NOW? :(

Recently booked a room with 1800hotels, and when we arrived, was told that the reservation had been cancelled by 1800hotels. I can not get through to the number to talk to anyone, only goes to a voice mail.

No luck with e-mail either. Am I out the money, or does anyone know how I can get reinbursed for the room.

Guest

Exactly same experience at Rome and Florence in Italy earlier this month! Trying to get the prepayment back from my credit card (AmEx) but spent a lot higher price to stay in those two hotels still...

Guest

Same problem in London last week. Showed up at the hotel and was told my reservation had been cancelled for non-payment.

Guest

We had the same problem in Cabo San Lucas and had to pay for the hotel for $300 more than 1800hotels had charged us. We protested the charge on our Chase credit card and they are refunding us the money paid to 1800hotels.com

I had the same problem last weekend in Boston. The people at the Marriott went to their website and found that they went bankrupt. Looks like we're screwed.

1800HOTELS ***

For the first time I used 1800HOTELS. Hilton in Wilmington NC had a bad phone number for contact and a bad credit card from them to pay for my stay.

I phoned numerous times, being told that it was the hotels fault. The company would not let the hotel put through charge for my stay until the day I checked out. Hiltons do a lot of business and this was a first for them. I do not recommend using 1800HOTELS unless you're prepared to deal with the problems they cause.

It was the first and last for me. Never again. Imagine if you were out of the country, dealing with a language barrier and this problem. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

All they could say when I phoned them numerous times was that it was the hotels fault. Do not use 1800HOTELS

My family is in Orlando for vacation and was booked with a confirmation with a Disney property. They arrived to find out no reservation and no one answering at 1800HOTELS.

We found out they filed Chaper 11 on Thrusday. They have $672 of mine and I had to arrange another hotel for the family since they were there.

Have no idea what to do next to get my money back. 1800Hotels shame on you.

I ahve sent 4 emails to 1800hotels with no response. They used bait/switch with my recent stay in Miami; had paid for and reserved (confirmed) Fountainblue, and 1800 moved me to a subpar hotel Alexander the night before my arrival.

No calls to 1800 were answered. Fountainblue confirmed my reservation and i checked in. The front desk called later and told me that 1800 had not paid and we had to leave. We had to pack up, move to the alexander, rent mopeds, taxis, to get around.

All of our reservations and actitivies were at the fountainblue. I am now out of pocket of hundreds of travel dollars not budgeted for AND had to stay at a hotel that was not of our choosing or what we PAID for. This is fraud and classic bait/switch.

Fountainblue obviously had the room for us since we had already checked in. I want resolution/complensation and a response from 1800 hotels.

NEVER EVER BOOK WITH 1800hotels! I had a trip schedule to go to Brazil back in Feb.

On the day of my trip the whole Northeast was covered in 2 feet of snow. I couldn't even leave my state! I was forced to cancel due to the weather. So I contacted 1800hotels and they told me I will not get refund because its within 1 day cancellation policy but they claim that they will "check" with the hotel to see if they could give me some refund.

What *** There goes my hard earn $1000 down the drain. Save yourself from the headache and book directly with the hotel itself! Yeah you make pay a bit more but if you need to cancel at least you get some refund.

CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN! It will save you.

Guest

I don't want to hear from your customer service manager. I have been in contact with someone from your group already.

Again, you blame it on hotel or your provider. The hotel was faxed information after 3 calls to your company and 3 calls from me.

You should not be in business! I was there for a rehersal dinner and wedding.

This was in the back of my mind the whole weekend because of the incompitence fo your group. I know exactly how you work.

I paid for the room and it was immediately taken from my account but...you hold the money as long as possible, making interest on my money. I'm in the financial business, don't *** me.

Hello Willbill1313.

We are very sorry for your experience at the selected hotel. We have over 80,000 hotels worldwide and though this issue is very rare, it does come up. Some of our hotels are paid for using a virtual credit card to pay for the stay when checking in or out, if the amount varies more than a few cents the card will decline. However, our hotels will know how to remedy the situation from the information provided on your voucher. All our clients need for check in is the voucher sent at the time of booking, a photo ID and a major credit card for incidentals(room service, parking, ect.) I am very sorry this particular hotel was unaware of the how to handle the decline. Please email me so our customer service manager can contact you direct to answer any further questions you may have.

Reservation cancelled by 1800hotels.com

I Booked a room with 1800hotels.com and when we arrived, we were told that the reservation had been cancelled by 1800hotels. I have been trying to contact them, but calls go to a voice mail.

I have e-mailed them, but have had no return e-mails either We paid for our room when we left, and were told to check my credit card statement to make sure it had not been charged, but it had. so I have now paid twice.

I just read that they went bankrupted. Does anyone know how to get refunds, or get through to them.
