I have a US Bank account, I don't always carry my card with me, the other day on my way home I stopped at US Bank to cash a small check issued to me the same day by a friend, the check was drawn on a US Bank.Arriving at the Bank I handed the teller the check and she told me there would be a 5 dollar charge unless I had a US Bank account, I told her I did but I didn't think that I needed a US Bank account since the check was drawn on a US Bank, all I needed was to prove I was the person that the check was written to.

The teller informed me that Bank Policy requires that you do in fact need a US Bank account to not be charged this fee. Not to long ago I was issued a check drawn on Bank of America, I went to Bank of America they had the same 5 dollar charge if you don't have an account with them but, since the check was drawn on Bank of America and I had a proper license ID the had no trouble cashing. I might be changing Banks. To those who think that I am being paranoid about my episode with US Bank, maybe I am but, I Luckily Still have some rights to be able choose with whom I deal with.

I feel that this is just another way to get more money out of the customer, Bank of America seems to be able to still stay in business, and give none account holding customers good service.

US Bank doesn't seem to care.Bob 3856a40

You 2 need to re read this again. You just come off ***. He said he didn't get charged the fee because it was the bank from which the check was being drawn from.

YOU need to read it again. HE said HIS bank charges the fee to non account holders, and my post agreed, that all banks have this policy. ONE Bank of American not making him pay does not mean they do not have this policy. I have been with BOA since before they bought Nations Bank, and they have always had this policy. Most branches enforce it, some don't if you are not an ***.

If you do have an account you are NOT their customer, and ever bank has this policy.

You do not bank there. Why in the world would you expect them to take the time, effort and expense to cash a cheque for someone who does not do business with them? You are wrong. You should have just taken it to your own banque to cash. :p
