I live in Florida and am quite familiar with hurricanes. When I saw that New York City was in the path of Irene and I was scheduled to fly to NYC round trip on US Airlines from Thursday till Sunday, I called the airline to cancel my reservation instead of being stuck in a especially for my return flight which was scheduled for Sunday (the day the hurricane was to have a near direct hit on Manhattan.

My call was answered in the Phillipines by a young lady with a very thick accent who told me that no flights in or out of had been cancelled and that I would have to pay a change fee of $150.00 and a service fee of $25.00 plus any increase in the cost of the flight whenever I decided to use the change ticket. PHOOEY!!! I want a refund! This is an !

I did not want to cancel the flight, but, it was foresight on my part to know that the airport would be closed and US Airlines would not be flying on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from LaGuardia to Tampa, FL.
I am so upset. I do not have any plans to use this ticket within the next year so my money for the ticket that could not be used is lost and if I do use this ticket, they are charging me for a flight that was cancelled because of a hurricane ... Not because I changed my mind.

Believe me, it was very difficult for me to change my hotel reservations and cancel meetings which were scheduled for Friday. New York was shut down during the time I was to be there! Plus my change plane airport was in D.C.! I may have been stranded there, instead!

I will NEVER do business with this airline again. They have no common sense and are money grubbers in the highest extent. US Airways ...

run with cheap Phillipine labor??I'm just a small cog in the big machine, but, my voice makes a difference to all who read this. 311a3f1

I authorized no such act. That said, even if I had, the airline was within their rights to charge a change fee since even if I had authorized an act, even a great act, had it not caused flight cancellations then a change fee would be charged.
Go forth and do not be fruitful - there are too many of you already.

In April, US Airways was the last leg of my trip coming from China. I had reservtions with US Airways From LAX to Albuquerque. I went to get my eticket at LAX, they told me my flight already left, a change had occured, but they did not notifly me of the change. I had to get back to my job and my handicapped wife, her caretaker was about to leave. I almost was arrested, I refused to move form the ticket desk until this was resolved. They called security. Security told me to move aside. Luckily for me, they moved me to where the employees office was. The lady at the desk told me she notified the manager. I watch to see who went in and out of the office. I saw a man in a suit, he looked offical to me. I asked if he was the manager, sure enough, he was. I asked if he was notified of my situation, he had no idea, the woman at the desk lied. The manager took care of my problem and the clerk was reprimanded! Look for the offical and talk to them directly, the pions do not care about anything but their pay check.

I fly USAirways 2-3 times a month. Rarely have a problem. They are a lot better than American Airlines.

You cannot cancel a flight because you believe the flight will be one way or the other@tired of being used. One unfortunately has to wait for the flight to be cancelled and on that confirmed cancellation immediately reschedule a flight. Not wait and see what would be good for you, but immediately.@ another one are you leaving out details? Once a ticket has been reissued for a cancelled flight ( the airlines cancellation) I have never ever heard a circumstance of a person paying fees unless you upgraded from your economy. If you dealt directly with the airline for your information I would be curious to know what calling center you received. @ tired of being used-In the business world it is a plus if one employs people of many languages so that they can assist as many as they are possibly able. @ undisclosed you would be surprised at who reads this site I just shared it would like 181 people through FB. I never knew of the website. I like the staff on US Airways although it is not my favorite airlines. But I owe them a reasonable pat on the back as they assisted with my daughter's Make A Wish back in '06.

I had a similar situation with us airways. They only offered penalty free changes prior to the hurricane. I kept my original itinerary, expecting Irene to be a non event in the area I was headed (dc).

At 3 am Sunday morning USAirways emailed me to say my flight was cancelled, and the earliest rebooking would be 3 days later, on Tuesday. I had no choice but to book the Tuesday slot.

At 11:00 am that same day, Washington DC resumed all flights. I called UsAirways. My ticket for that day had been resold, and they would not rebook the new Tuesday ticket for Sunday or Monday at the same price or without penalty.

Dude, contact the airline. You really think they read this and will act on your complaint here? Bet if you get satisfaction, you won't come back and write a followup.

I had the exact situation with the change fee being applied. I wrote a formal complaint using the contact us button on USA Airways.com and just received an email that they would waive the fee. Try it!
