This is regarding a rental I had with Uhaul.Absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with.
Uhaul treated me with poor customer service, inexperienced staff, lack of courtesy, unprofessional management and a truck that by all safety standards should not have been allowed onto US roads. As you know, moving in and of itself is a trying experience. When I placed my reservation with Uhaul, they initially told me that they do not do more than 1 day in-town over night rentals. I wanted the truck for 4 days.
They put me on with a manager who said no problem. Great right?-Wrong. When I called a week later to ask for a larger truck, as we decided to move more furnishings than originally expected, they again told me that they could not rent a truck for more than 1 day on in-town rentals. I again had to speak with the manager who again said no problem.
She confirmed my date of pick up and drop off incorrectly having it as again, 1 day. I had to correct her. On the day I went to pick up my truck, I was a half hour early and was told by the young punk kid in the store that they do not rent trucks for more than 1 day on in-town rentals and I began to get very upset and told him that the manager confirmed it 3 times. He then went on to tell me that the truck was not at his location and that the other 26 footer was being serviced and I had to drive 25 minutes to another Uhaul location where one would be waiting for me.
I was then pissed off. I had movers waiting for me to bring the truck back to begin moving. To top it off, the kid had a smart smirk on his face and was useless and untrained. He then gave me the incorrect address to the other Uhaul store.
That cost me another 20 minutes after finally finding it using my Iphone. Upon arrival, I was treated well at this location. However, the truck they gave me was a piece of junk. The steering was so far out of alignment that in order to keep it straight on the road, I had to have it at 3 oclock.
The power steering was shot, shocks non-existent and the roof of the storage area leaked onto my furniture. This is not made up, believe me! I did not feel safe to allow anyone but me to be in the cab. I called the manager where I rented it from and was told that I should call the 800 service number if I felt the truck was unsafe.
I explained that the truck should never have been allowed to leave the lot that way and that because Uhaul was not responsible for the moving costs should something go wrong with the truck, I would have been out hundreds of dollars if I had to unload the truck and load it into another one. He was a poor manager. This vehicle was so poorly maintained, a less experienced driver may have had a serious accident. Lastly, and this is the kicker, I received the truck with the gas gauge at the full line and was asked to bring it back that way.
I went a total of 60.8 miles over a 4 days period. It cost me $64.34 to fill the truck. The gauge was working improperly and I was told too bad on the fuel. That I should have filled a little, looked at the gauge, filled a little more to make sure the gas filled up only to the full line.
The gauge went at least another quarter tank past the full line.
Uhaul totally screwed me and I am happy to tell everyone about my experience.I have it on facebook and wherever else I can get it posted.
