Staples Product Protection Plan -- worthless, a scam

Purchased Epson Workforce 520 on 10-17-2011 and purchased 3 year protection plan for $29.99

Printer had error code that was not defined in product document.

Called Staples Customer Service on 1-18-20-13, 16 months after purchase.

Wanted to get repair service on printer.

Spoke to Jennifer at warranty service phone number. She said staples never pays for printer repairs. They will only give a store credit of purchase price of $64.98.

No pro-rate on protection plan.

Transferred to supervisor “Donna".

If I disagree, both Jennifer and Dona said I was required to go to arbitration.

I explained I never agreed to arbitration. They said all extended warranty buyers must go to arbitration even without consent. They will not send me policy protection contract provisions that are contrary to the brochure given to me at time of purchase.

Donna referred me to Sureway Inc. Sureway provides the coverage, Staples is an agent of Sureway. Sureway is part of Assurant Warranty Corporation.

The pamphlets state that you must call the number or go online to file a claim. Staples does not service printers, they replace the printer or reimburse the amount through a staples cash card which can be used on purchasing another printer :zzz

They will fix it if the cost to replace it is higher than fixing it, for such a small machine (printer) it would cost 3 times as much to have a tech come to look at it let alone find parts for it. The brochure says they may either fix or replace it at their discretion (replacing can be them giving you the value you paid for it.)
