I am an OfficeMax employee and OfficeMax has always had, at least since April, an offer at the checkout register of 2 reams of paper for $10. The brands have varied from OfficeMax brand to Boise to Hammermill, but there have always been 2 for $10.

This week, OfficeMax placed a special paper ream for the 2 for $10 and announced that 20% of the proceeds would be donated to fighting breast cancer, which is great! EXCEPT...the day it started...

OFFICEMAX RAISED THE PRICE OF THE SPECIAL, you'll NEVER GUESS, by 20%, to 2 for $12.

So, in reality, the customer is donating the $2 to breast cancer, and OfficeMax is realizing a tax deduction for "handling" the donation and the profit of their 40-50% mark-up paper. 301171a
