Forgot to say (see earlier comment) that to preserve the plastic dome, I also do not pick it up by the heavy power head except, of course, when it's hot from cooking. The rest of the time, if the head is still on the dome, I pick up the unit with my hands on the dome, not on the head. Just makes sense.

I'm amazed that no one who's complained about the dome's cracking has made any effort to understand why and maybe avoid cracking the next one. When I read these complaints, having just bought my NW oven, I checked for what might be the problem and saw it right away: The power head is VERY heavy, and the dome is plastic. Chances are that constantly keeping the head on the dome places so much weight on it (together with the heat/cooling phases that stress the plastic)that it's almost bound to crack. So, I ONLY have the head on the dome when I'm using the oven. Otherwise, I store it at the bottom of the unit, inside the dome, and put a small plate or towel or whatever over the open hole. It's too early to tell how effective this will be over time, but it's got to be better than leaving the dome on all the time.
