Menards - Bad wood

My husband and I have spent several several thousands of dollars at Menards.My husband designed a deck package.

The workers at Menards were very helpful helping us purchase the materials needed. At the time we purchased the wood we could not afford composite. Since then the wood has split and shrank 2 to 3 inches...it makes it look like my husband did a terrible job which he did not. Our only alternative is to replace the flooring with composite.

Not even sure if the color will match the railings and steps!

Im not sure how much the composite will cost, but the deck is only 2 years old..and the deck is big.I dont know what else to do...please help me! 3071d48

You didn't dig to the bottom of the pile looking for the best wood. There's the problem. Leave warped, cracked, scummy, *** wood for rich people whom buy 7000 dollars worth of wood from one store.

For say 30 2x4's, you need to go to at least 2 menards to get the good wood, no joke. You see, you got my rejects and thats why the deck didn't turn out as you planned.

Wood cannot shrink 2 to3 inches(a 5 1/2 in board is not gonna shrink to 3 inches), it is possible that two boards butted together each shrank 1/2 an inch leaving a 1 inch gap.... that is why you should have someone who knows what they are doing buils things like this they know how to account for some shrinkage....

Wood naturally warps and shrinks, but it shouldn't that much. Fill out an "Installed complaint form". It will go to Menards corporate office. You will need to include the date purchased, pictures, when and by whom it was installed by on the form. After about four weeks you SHOULD get the cost of the boards back IF it is as bad as you say it is. I've swapped out boards for folks a half dozen times because they warped or shrunk nore than an acceptable amount. Your out the money for labor to replace it, but you will get the cost of the boards back to put twords composite if you want to... go to your local store and ask for the form.
