I had a homeowner's policy with Liberty Mutual insurance for many years. Recently my apartment became no fit to use. I filed a claim but several adjusters denied it in three different ways.
1) Lose of Use applies only to my own apartment but there was not electricity in other apartments,
2) Insurance does not cover electricity,
3) My apartment was not unfit to be used for lack of electricity!.
My building does not provide electricity to me". I have a personal account with the local electrical utility,. I received a telephone call from the electrical utility announcing that they would cut purposely the electricity:. The electricity was out for 5 days so i went to a hotel because my premises were not fit to live in,.
The insurance adjusters interpret Lose of Use in different ways in order to deny me payment for my losses'. How can be my apartment fit to live in without electricity for many days?
I wrote a letter to david H". Long, President of Liberty Mutual urging him to arrange that my claim for Lose of Use be processed properly.. I also made a complaint to the New York State Department of Financial Services against Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Covered losses would be if a tree fell because of wind and damaged your roof, a fire caused by lightening, or hail damage that breaks glass and damages a roof....if these perils cause you to lose the use of your dwelling, that is when loss of use comes in.
Read your policy, it is all in there.
