Kohls - Changed my billing address without telling me

August 2012 I received a bill from Kohls, and was surprised to see it had been forwarded from a state I do not live in.

When I called Kohls, I asked what was going on. I was told they had changed my billing address in May. WHY I HAVE NOT MOVED?!

It seems this happened automatically, due to an ex-spouse having moved and putting into the post office a change of address. I had changed my address TWICE in the past 5 years with Kohls, and so the "old address" on this post office forwarding notice, should not have matched mine at at! Yet they went ahead and changed my billing address so I never saw 2 bills.

The lady on the phone told me I had to either pay with a debit card, or electronic check THAT DAY....or drive to the store, or I'd get MORE interest changes.

I went to the store, I paid the bill, they had lied. It does NOT clear instantly when you do this. Thus I had NEW interest and finance charges.

I spent 3 days on the phone and talked to 11 people, before finding an email address for the president. I eventually found ONE person who had enough brains to SOUND upset on my behalf. She sent me a gift card.

In the end, NO one had a clue exactly how this had happened nor did they care enough to find out. I was told several "reasons", one being,
'I was probably connected sometime in my past financially to my ex-spouse."
DUH! So now 5 years later, this should change my address without my knowledge?

No one was concerned that the next step was to report me to a collection agency for not paying a bill they sent to a place I've never lived! Everyone lied about everything. They are also completely inept at math.

I canceled my Kohls charge because they can not be trusted with anyone's credit rating!!!!!

I did nothing wrong here, yet I no longer get coupons since I had to cancel my credit card to protect myself. Makes me mad. 2fe97de

It is likely that one of the statements was sent back to Kohl's with the forwarding address information and they 'assuming' that was accurate information changed the address. It is mainly the fault of the US Postal service. They did the same thing to me when my daughter moved out on her own. She did a change of address and after a week I stopped getting my bills I stopped getting everything. Two weeks later she called from out of State and said she had all my mail. I went to the Post Office to find out what happened and was told because we had the same last name the post office forward all the mail with my daughters last name. I told them she's my daughter she's not married of course she has the same last name. But, her first name is NOT the same and that the only mail that was to be forwarded was the mail with HER first name and the last name we share. Most bills have address correction request on the front for the USPS to notify the sender of a change of address. The mail you received from out of state was probably sent back after the USPS discovered their error. This why I believe the USPS should send a letter to confirm the change of address to the previous address. If it happened to me and happened to you I can just imagine how many others have encountered this same problem.

That sucks that your address was changed, but how could you go 2 months without seeing a statement and not wonder if you still had a bill to pay? Do you not keep track of your bills and the money you spend? You should never assume you don't owe anything unless you've checked to make sure that you don't owe anything. How hard is that to grasp?

They did the same thing to me. My ex-husband's name was never on my Kohl's card. They were sending my statements to my address. I paid them half of what I owed (around $200). I was paying a few bills off that month, so when I didn't receive another statement from them, I thought I had payed it off and forgot about it. A YEAR LATER I get a call from a collection agency

Go whine and b%$@h to the postal service since they were the ones responsible for processing a change of address! Obviously your so-called "ex spouse" was on your account at one time and that's why your bills are being forwarded. Not that difficult to figure out and straighten out!

Kohls changed my address not because of the post office but because Experian...the credit reporting company...told them I moved. I had not moved. They picked up an address for a relative of mine who moved...not me...the relative is not the same gender as I am. I researched this and found that Kohls works with Experian on an ongoing basis to check on its customers' credit worthiness under the guise of having up to date information about the customers. So they trusted Experian and changed my address without ever trying to verify it with me. They have my email address; and they should have sent something to the OLD address to verify and see what the response is FROM THE CUSTOMER. So Kohls doesn't trust its loyal, paying account holders to have the common sense to change their addresses when necessary...Kohls knows better. I closed the account in a hot minute.

To all the haters below, it is NOT the post office who did this. It is the credit report company Experian. When the poster's husband changed his address, that went to Experian who in turn reported it as being HER address change to Kohls. Kohls PAYS Experian to track the credit worthiness of its customers and if Experian says somebody has changed addresses, Kohls follows what Experian says while making NO ATTEMPT to VERIFY that information WITH THE CUSTOMER! Kohls doesn't trust its customers to update their addresses!!! This is all under the guise of making sure they're serving the customer when actually it's so they know what you're doing financially overall and so they can FIND you if you try to duck out on a past-due account. They can use Experian to check on ongoing credit worthiness but you do NOT change account information (address, phone number, email address) without FIRST VERIFYING IT WITH THE CUSTOMER! They did it to me this way..and never once emailed me to verify it...they have my email...called me to verify it..they have my telephone number...or mailed something to what they thought was my former address (but it's my current address) to see if the post office returned it to them with a forwarding label or whether *I* replied saying NO..that's WRONG INFORMATION..I did NOT change my address! I closed my Kohls account over this shoddy practice.

SORRY TO PUT ON THE POST AGAIN. BUT I THINK IT IS THEY WHERE ALL THIS CRAPS ORIGINATES. IF THEY WOULD APPROVE CARDS IN THE STORE AND FOR A REASONABLE LIMIT THIS KINDA *** WOULD HAPPEN LESS OFTEN.

Was your husband's name on the card? Was your mail going to your ex's address? If so can you not see how a mistake can be made here? When my daughter left home after graduation, her change of address resulted in some of our mail being mistakenly forwarded as well. It is a simple fix, nothing that warrants your going apeshit.
