My mother in law has broken the battery door on her hearing aid is being charged 560.00 to repair it. This is minus a "170.00 building discount" because she lives in a assisted living complex. So if she did not live in this building I guess the total would have been over $700.00!!!

I feel like this company is taking advantage of senior citizens!!

Does anyone know what the usual and customary amount would be for this type of hearing aid repair!

Her aid is a type that is molded to her ear as is Siemens Brand. 2f6c39d

I would like to respond to the complaint regarding lady being charged for being charged 560.00 to repair a broken battery door on her hearing aid. When a door is attached to a hearing aid its simple to replace the door when it breaks off. The problem is when the hinge that holds on the door is broken from the face plate of the aid. IF it is programmable hearing aid then the faceplate of the the would have to be replace. This is were the cost is higher. The good thing is when the faceplate it replaced that means all parts are replaced and the hearing aid is now back to new internally. The complex may have a discount program for their tentants with the company providing the services.

When a hearing aid is replated it is common for the cost to be somewhere from 580.00 to 990.00. I hope this would be helpful for the family member.

These people are ripping you off and taking your money. Please go to a Doctor of Audiology, they have 8 years of education and are the best trained to take care of your hearing. To be a hearing aid dispense in most states you need to have only a high school diploma, no STD'S and pass a basic test. Why would you trust your hearing with these con artistes? Would you go to a some random person to rehab your vision or a knee? NO, these people do not care for your hearing healthcare. Doctors of Audiology or Audiologists will find the right options the first time and save you thousands of dollars.

I've had a few broken hearing aid doors over the years, but they have always been replaced at no charge.

I'd look for a different hearing aid provider, a good one will likely replace it for free just to get your future business. Complete replacement of a $2500 hearing aid has cost me about $200 or less.

Most reputable audiologists and hearing care professionals can fix a broken door for $15 or less in our area. If the actual metal hinge pin to which the door attaches is broken, that is a bit more labor intensive and we charge $35 at our center. If the damage to the faceplate (the portion where the door attaches) is significant and it must go to a lab, the customary charge is around $200 unless it is under warranty. The amount you discussed in your post sounds quite excessive in my professional opinion.

Most of the time the door of the units are on location. If ANY part of the FACEPLATE (where the battery door attaches) is cracked, or will not hold a replacement door with the pin, the entire FACEPLATE has to be replaced, including the Microphones, Contacts, wiring, and anything else attached to it on the inside. Unfortunately, the Manufacturers won't give those replacement parts out for free, especially when the hearing aid is more than 5 years old. (The parts are much harder to obtain as technology improves)

A battery door, if like Larry says the pin is broke, the battery door just snaps on, but if the pin is broke a new faceplate does have to be replaced with said pin in it. But for the most part most companys have extra doors right in the office. It's a quick fix.

A battery door is held in place by a small pin that is molded into the faceplate of the hearing aid. If the door breaks but does no damage to the pin, then it is very easy to replace the door and most offices do this at no charge. If however; the retaining pin is pulled from the faceplace, a new faceplate must be made. As the electronics are attached to the faceplate this means a new circuit is put in. I know it sounds very involved just to replace a little pin that costs maybe 2 cents. As the pins are molded into the faceplate there really is no other option. As for the cost of the repair, I think it is usery. A sin. There are many hearing aid dispensers that are a real asset to their patients.
The one your mother-in-law is seeing has only his bank account in mind. When it is time for hearing aids again. Please give COSTCO a look. Costco has been dispensing hearing aids for only 14 years, but in that time they have grown to the second largest retailer of hearing aids nation wide. You will pay 40-60% accross the board on hearing aids and Costco uses a flat rate repair system. The repair fee out of warranty is $135.00 and the aid is put back under warranty for one year. Costco does not use any 3 party repair companys. All repairs are done by the manufacture of the hearing aid. Sorry you are having this experence.
